I normally only write a review if an experience is really good or really bad. Our lunch at Bricks and Bread KL today was neither - it featured both.... and more.

The Good Really really nicely designed restaurant - instagramable is correct - with a nice vibe, very heigh ceilings, bright and airy.

Our server Aziz was great - very "on it", hard working and accommodating despite the challenges of the day.

The food looked great and tasted OK la - the taste just somehow did not match the superb looks. The sourdough bread was a hit - but why charge MYR2 for butter ???

Coffees were fine. Carrot cake on the very sweet side - maybe designed for local tastes. Our disabled guest walloped the fried chicken sandwich - must have been good! It was her first day out without wheelchair after 8 weeks due to severe leg injury and surgery.

The way Aziz handled the plastic stirrer baked into the apple crumble was commendable. Pure natural instinct to immediately take it away.

The Not So good/Really Bad. Trying to book a table by sending two WhatsApp messages to the restaurant which were read, but never answered.... until you need to make a phone call to get a reply.

Then when you speak to the representative of the restaurant (who should be fired based on our experience) and they are RUDE (condescending bordering on abusive might be more accurate descriptions) and encourage you NOT to make a booking!!! Having been to thousands of restaurants around the world it was a first time experience!!! When you say you have a disabled guest and need a ground floor table near the door and they say "sorry cannot promise." When they tell you they cannot guarantee that they can make your food on time as they will host a party upstairs. When you agree to come at 11:45 - a reservation is RELUCTANTLY given but with a subtle hint "you better come on time." My wife had the phone call but had she told me about the way she was treated on the call before our lunch, we would never have come to Bricks and Bread KL.

Our disabled guest was enjoying her apple crumble when she spit out a piece of a plastic stirrer (about 0.7cm long) which was baked into it. #healthhazzard Aziz immediately took it away and then came back to ask if we really found it IN the crumble. Yes we replied. He apologised, offered a replacement item (we declined) it was not charged and he then brought a chocolate cookie to our guest compliments of the house. Well handled Aziz and your tip was earned.

The Unforgivable When we left the restaurant, the remaining portions of apple crumble (they take the form of a brownie) were still in the display cabinet for sale! There are fair odds that other portions were possibly similarly contaminated - our piece was just a broken off part of a longer plastic stirrer -.

Any restaurant that places profit over the safety of it's diners is one to...

A very nice place for OOTD and super delicious food but....

Let me tell you each things that we order as we spend here almost RM350 for 4 person (means each us paid around RM80 - RM100)

What We Ordered :

Birrieria Tagliatelle This would be on my highest list ! Will surely repeat again for this, price i think around Rm40 per plate, quite filling, full plate, lots of beef, spicy, and creamy. super yummy and good. My Favorite pasta so far.

Chili clams pasta Spicy and creamy. Typical chili clam pasta. nothing special. but taste good and yummy, quite lots of clams, but would be better if the sauce would be thicker than this. Price around RM38 would i order this again ? surely !

Grilled Barramundi Yup taste between asam pedas and ikan 3 rasa. would i order this again ? not really, portion wise i don't think it is big enough for RM48, as it is not filling enough. Eating this would make you still hungry afterward. Get it as dinner is better than as the lunch.

Beef bacon carbonara. Not worth RM30. Taste like secret recipe carbonara. but much more expensive. so would i buy it again ? absolutely no ! I have had much much better carbonara than this. This is just taste like milk, and it is very liquids toooo.

Pink lemonade, RM12 price with the taste, nothing good about it. not worth the price and hype. will get better pink lemonade elsewhere with better price.

Caramel latte. Rm15 but doesn't taste like caramel, Starbuck is better, the price also same like Starbuck but small cup and and no caramel taste.

Vanilla Latte This is actually taste good. for RM14, i don't mind repeating it. it is sweet but quite good.

Chocolate drink RM16 for this ? taste like aik cheong choc drink that you can buy for rm2.50. so no. absolutely no.

Apple pie with whip cream The whip cream is sooo little like a spoon portion, but apple pie taste good. for RM19 it is on the 50-50 level of repeating it again, if i repeat again, surely will asked for more whipped cream to balance out the sourness of the apple. And the pie smells super good too !

Croissant RM9, but taste like croissant that you can get at Giant grocery store, not so buttery and soft.

Baked Custard with almond shortbread This is another good thing, only for RM8, but it is soft, buttery, not so sweet but perfectly nice....

Sorry (but also not sorry) to say this cafe definitely deserve a NO star rating.

Will most definitely not come back here again, really not worth the visit -__- I had the worst dining experience ever in my entire life.

The soup served to my kid was Cold and Sour. I asked to reheat. FYI, I'm seated on the second floor, so they use a food lift here to transport the food up and down.

The soup came back to me Cold again, the only thing they reheat was the bowl. I asked to reheat again. There it goes, down the food lift again ( all together 4 times up & down )

I'm like ok no, not going to feed my child that. And I went there myself and said, please cancel the soup. I don't want it anymore. She said we can't refund it to you because you already touched it. I said it's not my fault you served me cold soup twice right ?! it's ok, just don't serve it back to me again. FYI, it's an upfront payment policy.

Frustration continues to build up as other customers who arrived later than my table are all getting their food served but my table still half empty. My child had nothing to eat but the plain bread that was meant for the soup.

Tak boleh tahan dah, I asked where's the food. Sure enough, they missed out one of my order and said the other one is on its way up. I said, just cancel my order. People on my table are telling me they rather eat McDonalds. How embarrassing.

I went to look for the manager and request for a refund on the items I want to cancel. Manager didn't say a word and handed me the money. Manager obviously knows the situation because, not a word was mentioned.

At least say la , sorry for the bad experience ? sorry on behalf of the team of Bricks & Bread. Take the initiative to find out what's the problem / how to improve. There's so many ways to at least make your customer leave your place with a good note. But no, I assume either lack of experience or just don't care or perhaps not a manager.

Had to look for an alternative place to eat after that lol, really not worth my...

Stepping into Bricks and Bread KL, you are immediately enveloped in a tranquil and aesthetically pleasing atmosphere. The café's high ceilings, minimalist white and brick theme, and abundant natural light create a space that feels both modern and cozy, making it an ideal setting for a relaxed brunch or a productive work session. The location in Chow Kit, while adding to its old-world charm, can be a bit challenging for drivers due to limited street parking, which is a minor inconvenience to note. The food quality at Bricks and Bread KL is a topic of many positive reviews, especially for their well-regarded baked goods and a menu that blends Western and Asian flavors. The "brownies banana," for instance, is a popular item that is often praised for being moist, delicious, and a definite must-try. Reviewers also frequently mention other treats like their croissants and artisanal bread as standouts."Balinese sambal matah" the cafe's exploration of unique flavor is that they are well-seasoned and of good quality. For coffee lovers, the "caramel latte" is a noteworthy addition to their menu. Priced at RM14, it is part of a beverage selection that is consistently praised for its quality. The café is known for serving good coffee, with reviewers often highlighting the satisfaction derived from their drinks, which bodes well for a well-prepared and enjoyable caramel latte. The staff services at Bricks and Bread KL are consistently lauded for their friendliness and efficiency. Many reviews mention the staff's welcoming nature and quick service, which contributes significantly to the overall positive dining experience. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a regular, the staff makes you feel right at home. This combination of a delightful ambiance, a menu of quality food and drinks, and excellent service makes Bricks and Bread KL a highly recommended spot for anyone looking for a memorable cafe experience in Kuala Lumpur.
