--Staff-- Most of staff (security, bellhops/doorman, night manager, and housekeeper) if not extremely courteous, are at least receptive and professional. I appreciated that. The café staff, however, were sometimey, standoffish and odd.
The absolute worst staff member was the main/day manager. Everytime I talk or approach any staff, I do it with respect and a smile; and, that courtesy is returned. No problem. With this manager, however, I was always met with a twisted up face; or, he's trying to hide his face. He really acted like I'm in his worst enemy or something. I asked about the microwave one day because I didn't see any staff in the café the first time, and he completely snapped on me. He acted like I was begging for something or as if I'd asked him 13 times. Me and this guy are the same age, I'm sure. He had a really nasty attitude towards me. Things like this put me in a bad situation because I don't put up with this behavior normally. However, I was a guest in Malaysia; and, I don't want to represent my race or nationality poorly. So, I have to let this man's behavior slide multiple times.
I already paid my reservation in advance, for over 10 nights, I was polite and never asked for something unreasonable. I didn't call reception and housekeeper even more than twice during my whole stay. Also I dressed appropriately; and, I arrived my first day very well groomed. So, I have no idea what this guy's problem was. He's either biased against non-White, non-Malayasian guests--typical--or he's just an ornery character that needs to get out of the hospitality business. It's really sad that the professionalism of other staff has to be ruined by this man.
--Room-- The rooms are okay. Not smelly. Mostly clean at first glance. One wall had some stains but you really had to look closely to see them on the wall paper. No ironing board. No room service. Silverware is not allowed in the rooms from the café. Housekeeping does come regularly to clean. The beds are comfortable and the AC is good. Good TV. Plenty of sockets in room but only 2 international sockets. Sleeping maybe difficult at times because the hallways are not carpeted; and other guests are completely inconsiderate. Other guests will spend hours in the hallways, well into the early morning, shouting; on speaker calls; playing music; and even playing basketball.
Other reviews warned of roaches. Yes, I saw 2 roaches during my stay. And there was maybe one mosquito.
--Gym-- The gym is compact and excellent. It had fresh towels, gym lockers, gym showers, bathroom, 2 treadmills and 2 benches. A medicine ball and plenty of dumbbells. TV as well. Getting in is not too much hassle. You have to get the gym key card from reception every time you want to use it and return it immediately after.
--Café/food-- The café is not the absolute worst but it's pretty lame. The continental breakfast is always undercooked and lukewarm, at best. I've often received 'fresh' dishes that were clearly made on an uncleaned grill. The utensils were often dirty. AC in the café was blowing hard, on already cold food. If you need the microwave, you have to ask staff to use it. I would say, don't bother eating here for breakfast, but I don't seen many better alternatives within walking distance. The café also had those little tiny grey flies on occasion.
--Summary-- I would say skip this hotel all together but I haven't been to many (full) hotels in KL. (I am used to staying with friends abroad.) So, I don't know if there's better places at this price...

Read moreMpalace hotel is located in the strategic area along Jalan TAR. This hotel is just a 5-10mins walking distance from Bandaraya/bank negara train station. This area has a lot to offer, from jewellery shops, to clothing stores, two malls, and many more. You can see KLCC and KL tower from afar.
The check in process is somewhat slow. I have made the money transfer based on the instructions given when I made the online booking via their website. There is no receipt given to me after I emailed them the proof of payment (we also didn't know if the money went through or not).
However on the day of arrival I was asked to pay again. They asked me to send them the proof of payment to a different email address. And that also took some time to arrive in their email inbox. Not very efficient the check in process. It'd be great if payment can be made via the hotel website itself and once confirmed, the check in process should be as simple as just passing the key card.
Anyway, the room is clean, adequately spacious, the electrical sockets are very practical and at right places. The bathroom has good water pressure. Basic amenities like shower gel and shampoo are provided.
Wifi is fast enough for daily use.
The room sound proofing is not very good, during the day, I can clearly hear the songs played by those clothing merchants. In the night, I can clearly hear my next door phone conversation.
Overall, it's good value for money. Great location, good cleanliness,...
