My brother and sister-in-law invited us for dinner at Ana Ikan Bakar Petai in Kampung Baru, located near the Pintu Gerbang. It was our first time here, and the place was packed with diners. After moving around to find a spot, we finally settled at a table in front of the shop by the roadside. Parking was convenient with a nearby lot available at a minimal charge.
We ordered several seafood dishes, making sure to include some non-spicy options for my nieces. The seafood is picked fresh directly from the display trays, which adds to the experience, while drinks and side dishes are ordered by scanning the QR code on the table. The food arrived gradually, but the rice came out much later than expected. Usually, rice should be served first so we can start eating while waiting for the rest of the dishes.
We also noticed that there were additional seating areas at the back and an upper level, which would be a good option when the front section gets crowded. Unfortunately, our order of Ikan Jenahak Masak Tiga Rasa was mistakenly sent to another table, so we decided to cancel it. Despite that hiccup, the dishes we had were flavorful and well-prepared, making the overall dining experience enjoyable.
The seafood was tasty, the atmosphere lively, and aside from the mix-up, it’s definitely a place worth recommending for fresh seafood lovers visiting...
Read moreWe ordered several dishes during our visit. The jenahak fish and cuttlefish were fresh and enjoyable, while the cockles had a smelly taste, clearly indicating they were not fresh. The prawns also lacked freshness as the skin stuck to the flesh. The jenahak fish grilled with sambal petai was well-prepared. The sambal had a nice balance of flavor, but the petai taste was rather mild. The cuttlefish, coated in flour, turned out a little too heavy and became jelak after a while. The prawns with salted egg were tasty at first, but the flour coating made them feel rich and eventually overwhelming. Service-wise, the dishes were served bit by bit instead of all at once, which disrupted the dining flow. As for the environment, the restaurant is located close to the road, with many walking sellers and even people asking for money. While the place is lively, it can also feel distracting and uncomfortable at times.
Overall food experience: Average, nothing particularly memorable. Environment: Lively but disturbed. Total bill:...
