Terraza Madero — Restaurant in Mexico City

Please please please, stay away from here. I can not believe I am actually taking the time to write a review on my holiday but if I can protect any ( especially tourist ) from this place I will.

Long story short, they are very dodgy. They are scammers and they are very rude and intimidating.

In countries like this it is normal for people to stand on the streets outside to attack customers. We were approached by a man and we explained to him that we wanted to go to a nightclub called ANTRO. He replied that is the place he works and he will take us there. He did indeed led us in to a building with several nightclubs etc. And guided us to the top floor this however turned out to be this club called Black but also goes under the name Terazza Madera. We told him that this was not really the plan that we were miss leaded however they reassured us that there will be nice music and dancing and since it was pouring down with rain we decided to give it a chance.

We asked for me the menu and were told they did not have one and were not serving cocktails only normal spirits. We ended up ordered 3 vodka lemonade. When the waiter came to us he given us 3 huge ( almost a liter size ) vodka lemonade. When we confronted him about this and the price he acted really shady. We told him we did not want these big drinks I tried to give mine back ( I had one teeny tiny sip and it was super strong and it immediately turned my stomach it was very weird ) i wanted to give it back he refused.

We then asked for the bill to find out how much it was, again he refused. We would only get a bill when we left and had to pay ( their plan is to get you as drunk as possible so you loose track of what you drink and then over charge you ) we insisted in wanting to pay there and then and after some huffing and puffing he got the bill. $420 for one glass which equals like £20. I appreciate for such a big drink in many countries you would have to pay the same but 1. This is Mexico every place we have gone to the drinks were cheaper. 2. We were given something we did not even order or want. Since we seemed to be the only tourists in there we decided to not make too much of a drama because we did not want to end up in a unfortunate situation. We asked to pay by card the answer was no only cash the machine was not working. However we did not have enough cash. Somebody walked with us to the atm ( right accross the street ) keeping an eye on us to make sure we came back and then we went back inside and paid. He would not let us keep the receipt.

We decided to stay and atleast drink our drink but we were litteraly being watched our every move.

We did complain to the waiter ( luckily one of us speaks Spanish ) and I told him via google translate that we were scammed and that they took advantage off us being tourists.

The guy serving us was unpleasant he was proper shady and not a single applogy was made.

Eventually the table next to us approached us asking what was wrong and we explained to them. One lady managed to get us a menu and it turned out we were DOUBLE charged. We spoke to what seemed to be a teamleader who apologised and would see what he could do but he never came back to us. whenever we were talking to other staff our waiter clearly annoyed came to us so he could listen.

We met a American guy who was with us and he left before us I could see him walking out and the waiter was again following him and making unfriendly hand gestures.

When we left he also confronted us and followed us to the door he would not let us leave alone. We also did not drink the drinks because we did not trust it unfortunately.

The evening was ruined.

Avoid this place like the plague and if you do decide to go anyway...

DO NOT GO!! If you want to be scammed this is the place to go… rude waiter and disgraceful service. They absolutely do not care about customer service neither they know what it is, the 1 star reviews says it all. We were looking for a specific venue and one guy approach us and says he knows where it is, he takes as for fools and takes us to a different venue saying that is the one ( he was a worker of Black). We obviously knew we were being tricked but still decided to give it a go. We then order drinks and I specifically ask the waiter for a small glass of a single or double vodka with lemonade and he says they don’t offer that measure and proceeded to bring me a huge glass of one litre. The waiter did not give us the menu nor shared the prices of the drinks. We ask for the bill and then figure out that we were overcharged. Not a minimum of care from the waiter, or apology he just choose to be rude and intimidating! We speak then to a different waiter explaining the problem, the waiter promises he will do something for us to then disappear and never come back. Too frustrated to stay any longer, my mood was already ruined for the night. What a shame! I hope management can look into this, better service is more customers and more revenue. I’m sure that people who are treated the right way would be happily pay for a drink and would come back as well as recommend to friends. You are clearly...

Beware! Very shady service! Rips you off! Way overpriced and sketchy service! DO NOT GO HERE! 💀

At first, we were quoted TWICE the amount of money had been told upon ordering. Since we wanted to settle our bill and leave, we tried to pay our bill twice, but the servers kept deferring to the manager, who's "the only person who could run our card." But the manager kept saying he was going to be "back in 5 minutes," after which he'd disappear into the corner with 5 other staff members and start using a small calculator, for who knows what purpose.

After getting no service from that point, we headed for the door, calling Security over, so they could invite Management over, so we could pay out. Since we were quoted an erroneous amount, we requested to see a menu, but the servers were hesitant to show us one.

Eventually, thanks to the help of Security, the server allowed us to see the menu, charging us double for one drink. But after feeling ignored and then threatened, being tired of dealing with their shenanigans, we wanted to just pay and get out of there. At that very moment, their credit card system happened to fail. Hilarious. We pooled our cash, paid and left.

Not to mention, the drinks tasted...
