Lorena was a great help with the booking process and was a genuine charm to deal with. We booked 2 days diving, one morning trip and one afternoon trip (the 2pm trip is great for those who, like us, like to sleep in every so often on a holiday)
As two retired dive professionals, we were disappointed with the way one of our dive leaders handled a dive on our first day. We reported it to the shop and I am sure it was dealt with. We are instructors weren't too fussed about all our computers going into deco. A diver in our group, who was less experienced, had no idea why his computer was shouting at him and surfaced without completing his deco stops while the DM didn't bat an eyelid or check on him at any point, either underwater or on the boat after the dives. He carried on with his dive at around 15m while the poor guy was drifting at the surface, pretty much out of air and without completing his deco stops. In this scenario, he is guiding certified divers and some of the responsability must fall on the diver himself for going into deco, but as the current is much stronger away from the reef than close to it, there was no way that guy could've kept up with the group while staying within his NDLs. My wife and I have guided around 4000 dives as professionals, and we know this situation could've been avoided easily if the DM paid any kind of attention. I hope this was an isolated incident. This is why I only gave the Deep Blue 4 stars.
On our second day diving, Geraldo was really as good and friendly a DM as we could've hoped for. Thanks mate, all the best to you!
The boat is confortable, fast and the captains are great.
The reefs in Cozumel are splendid, full of life and are well worth a visit.
Thank you again Lorena...
Read more10/10 would recommend for any beginners!!! We had the most amazing day with Deep Blue. We booked an introductory dive session for the morning with the possibility to do more dives in the afternoon from the boat. I had been diving once but ages ago and my boyfriend was an absolute newbie. We were both very excited but also a bit worried about breathing, ear popping and being out in the ocean. All for nothing as we had the best guides! Our first session at 9am starting from the beach was with Gigi who was so patient, friendly and knowledgeable that we felt super safe. She explained the gear, signs and what we would be doing just so well. We spent an hour overall; first in shallow water where we got familiar with the equipment, then going around a reef with Gigi guiding us. She held our hands when necessary but also let us explore on our own whenever we felt comfortable. It was the perfect mix and as she said before herself - she was like a mother :) After an hour for lunch we headed out again at around 1:30pm with our guide Jules and Captain Carlos. Our first dive started by holding on to a buoy and just putting our head in the water and calm our breathing. Jules took all the time to give us a good feeling and to relax us. We descended super slowly, he accommodated my constant need for popping my stupid ears and my boyfriend having a bit of a hiccup with his breathing. The second dive therefore went so much smoother as we felt safe and well cared for. We saw a shark, stingrays, morays, cowfish changing colours, giant crabs and lobsters and so many other cool fish that Jules all pointed out. Even if we wouldn’t have seen any marine life - just being able to have this experience was...
Read morewe had 4 dives in two days, and the equipment of the second day was different from the first day,
my BCD and the one from my girlfriend were both missing the rope from one dump valve..
each day there has been an ORING broken in one of the tanks on the boat, it can happen but two in a row can be a signal..
I ordered to have a bigger tank for the first dive of each day, but when they came to pick us up from the hotel the first day there wasn't the tank i ordered so I had to use a normal tank for the first day, although i paid for the big one. luckily I had another day diving so i could use the two big tanks both on the second day, although the plan was to use one a day only for the deeper dives
The dives works that if a diver of the group finishes the air.. it is sent on the top alone, the dive master sends the signal buoy up and the diver goes up by itself.. although it might be common it's a bit risky as the diver can have any sort of problem along the 5 minutes of the ascent...
two days of diving and they brought us in the same spots, Palancar Arrecifes, although the spots had 4 different name, but they were really close... so a bit lacking of initiative... when infact there are a lot of diving spots around the island like punta Sur etc..
the second day we had 50 minutes of surface interval and it was too little.. three of us, to have a decent second dive, had to end up in a decompression dive.. having to do a safety stop between 10 minutes and 15 minutes... all this while the dive master was already on the boat... when the dive master should be the last one in boarding the boat.. luckily one of the guy had its own...
