Where to begin...My wife and I spent our honeymoon here - during Hurricane Delta. Yikes! So why five-stars?
The Staff - They have to be the nicest and most friendly people on the planet. Bar staff like Carlos and Oscar are genuinely great people at heart. Roxanna, Camilia, Elizabeth, and Eloisa - the Concierge team - are equally amazing and super caring. From being amazingly helpful in booking excursions to helping with last minute requests to remembering your drink after the first day, everyone on the staff went above and beyond any service we've ever had before. In truth, they felt more like friends than actual staff and everyone remembers your name. Additionally, since Hurricane Delta decided to make an appearance during our stay, the hotel staff was amazing in booking us (and providing transportation to) a safe, alternate hotel (which was actually very nice) to shelter in during the storm. Other people at different hotels were not so lucky.
The Property - A little sliver of paradise. Highly recommend the Ocean View room for a less expensive alternative to the Ocean Front rooms. The rooms are larger than we expected and kept super clean. Also, the total commute from our Ocean View room to the beach was about 20-25 seconds (including the stairs). The beach itself is beautiful, well-maintained, and private. The chairs are standard, but super comfy, and the beach service is very attentive and consistent. We never waited long for anything.
The Food - Eat at the hotel (beachside dining again) and at their restaurant Nu. It was some of best food we had in Tulum and we ate at many of the best spots (Arca, La Popular, Ocumare). The rock shrimp at Nu was especially good.
The Little Unexpected Touches - During our stay, the hotel/staff went the extra mile to make us feel welcome and special. These included bottles (plural) of prosecco for our honeymoon and my wife's birthday, a really nice birthday arrangement in our room (with rose petals), little bites of chili-seasoned fresh fruit, and shots of delicious ginger tea in the morning.
Tips: Breakfast: Eat breakfast on the beach, multiple times. The Eggs Royal and the Green Juice are fantastic. Beach Time/Excursions: Do a few excursions (cenotes, fishing, booze cruise, snorkeling), but leave plenty time to just relax on the beach. You will be back to Encantada, trust me, so why not relax and leave something to do for the next time... Fishing: Speaking of fishing, one of the highlights of our trip was going fishing one afternoon out of Akumal, bringing the fish we caught back to the hotel, and having them prepare it for us for a small fee. All of this was arranged though the amazing Concierge Team. Bug Spray: Bring bug spray: It's tropical and we went in the shoulder season, so it was a little buggy, but we had plenty of bug spray and bug incense sticks to burn (on Amazon). Also, if you forget it, the hotel has dispensers of natural bug lotion off the beach and at the front desk. It seemed to work too. Flashlight/Cars: Bring a flashlight or use your phone on the road at night. The main road for all the beach hotels is pretty rough (tons of potholes/deep puddles) and traffic is always hectic. Also, don't rent a car. When you see the main road, you'll thank me. Transportation: Often times, your excursions will offer transportation as a part of the package. Use it. It costs more, but it saves your sanity and it just makes things easier - you're on vacation! Private Dinner: Surprise your spouse/significant other with Encatada's private dinner, beach side. Think candlelight, waves crashing, a million stars, rose petals, the great food from Nu, and just the two of you. My wife was blown away; yours will be too. Well worth the $100/person.
In sum, why are you still reading this review? Book your stay here immediately! Or better yet, don't! That way there are still rooms for us when we come...
Read moreWe had such a wonderful experience at Encantada. This hotel was our last stop for our 3 week honeymoon trip in Mexico and we were hoping there would be no bad surprises. This hotel was absolutely stunning, exceeded our expectations and was a big highlight & a beautiful wrap to our wonderful time in Mexico.||We booked 5 nights at Encantada, it wasn’t enough I tell you. Our room was directly by the beautiful water, we could see the stunning sunrise from the comfort of our bed. Everything about our stay was comfortable & special.||When we arrived, our reception lady was very kind and sweet. She connected us with the internet and the 24/7 WhatsApp channel they have that we can ask for anything anytime, what a game changer. She also booked us a table at Nü their Michelin star restaurant across the road, 1minute walk. She also took us for a tour of the hotel & the sister hotels where we can access their pool and other restaurants, it was great to have many options and feel very welcomed. If I’m|Not wrong, this was the lovely Paola.||The beach spot where Encantada is, is absolutely perfect. It’s at the end of Tulum, the water is clear, stunningly turquoise and the restaurants/hotels/shops around are more refined & not crazy crowded. Everything is a little more expensive but it’s also great quality. We had delicious dinners every evening outside of our hotel a few meters each side each night, we also went to downtown for one evening but it’s wasn’t anything special. We wouldn’t recommend leaving the area where the hotel is.||Encantada had two spots for restaurant areas, one by the water and one sheltered incase it rained. We sat mostly by the water because the view was indescribable. The beauty of this hotel is that it only has 8 rooms, which means every little detail is taken care of for each of the guests & that you can really enjoy & can’t compare to other big hotel chains. ||Every morning I ordered coffee to my room via WhatsApp, it was such great service, just to enjoy the view before the day started. WhatsApp was awesome we felt looked after with any food/drink orders, restaurant recommendations or taxi arrangement, thanks to Isabel for being a wonderful host.||Hotel restaurant breakfast was absolutely delicious !!!!!! We had the best food, the breakfast menu that’s included is more than enough with the fruits, the protein bowl with peanut butter (so good!), fresh juices, and however you like your eggs like traditional like huevos rancheros for example or avocado toast, they can do it & it’s on the menu and they will do it in the best way for you to enjoy it.|Restaurant service was beyond great, Miguel & Alberto were looking after us everyday, making sure we get our orders right away with the friendliest service. They did a fantastic job and we were glad to have met them.||We also enjoyed lunches, it was another ballgame, fresh ceviches, tacos 🌮, club sandwiches 🥪 you name it, all the good stuff.||We also enjoyed drinks during the day while we were at the beach or ordering to the room. The range was great & yummy.||We spent most of the day on the beach, it was stunning. Only a few beds, golden Sandy beach, clear & turquoise water. We swam and enjoyed the temperature, the waves were sometimes a bit high. There was security most of the day, not many sellers would walk past during the day and when they do they only stop by if you ask them too, not crazy.||One other day I went to the pool at the other hotel, it was really nice, a slightly bigger hotel with 23 rooms. Nice and serene, gotta love those small hotels. And another day we had dinner at another sister hotel, same food quality and similar menu, it was...
