Riad Nelia Signature is a hidden gem in the Bahia area of the Medina. It's a small affair - a handful of rooms and cafe to enjoy your breakfast or have lunch/dinner in. If you want the hustle and bustle of the most well-known Riads, complete with busy bars and live music, stay elsewhere. If you want a quiet, calm reprieve from the madness of the Medina, this is your spot. ||LOCATION:|The Signature location is in the southern end of the Medina, near Bahia, and is an area that is not quite as developed and commercial as the central Medina. Anything you want within the northern and southern ends of the Medina are within a 15-20 minute walk (at most) and you are a 3-5 minute walk to a taxi rink. If you want easy access to the Medina without being in the center of the bustle, the location is perfect. Reviews talking about dark narrow streets and construction sites aren't wrong - but they are not understanding that, one, this is everywhere in the Old Town, and two, there is significant damage and reconstruction taking place from the devastating earthquake. ||ROOMS:|We stayed in the Suite and found it spacious and more than adequate for our needs. The memory foam mattress was comfortable and the room stayed sufficiently cool as long as we were mindful to keep doors and windows closed and the A/C on its lowest settings. Hot water for showering was ample, as was storage. Electrical outlets are plentiful. You might hear some noise from the center of the building or the room above you - this is in every Riad: they are old buildings. This property was well insulated and because there is not much activity in the courtyard, it stays quiet. If you book a more active Riad, you might have a live drummer quite literally 5 feet from your head, just on the other side the glass to your bedroom until late night. Want quiet? Book the Nelia Signature. ||STAFF:|The staff is delightful and warm, welcoming you to the Riad with the best mint tea we had in all of Marrakech. Nothing is too much and they are happy to help with anything you might require. Housekeeping was prompt and the room was tidy every day. ||VALUE:|The property markets itself as a 3-star location, but I think it could mark as 4-star. Compared to other Riads our friends stayed at, from 2 to 5-star, Nelia Signature was indistinguishable from the 4 and 5 star properties. For the price of approx. $220/night, we felt satisfied with the value, and enjoyed the included breakfast of fresh fruit, pastries, eggs, and yogurt. ||IMPROVEMENTS:|There are two areas I would suggest the Riad to improve in. First, the Riad encourages you to communicate with them via WhatsApp, but they don't always reply, even when the message has been viewed. Second, because the main entry to the Riad stays locked at all times (standard for most Riads), the time to wait outside for someone to let you in was, on occasion, too long (more than 5 minutes). These are minor details, but an area for...

Read moreI stayed at Riad Nelia for a week and was treated like family from day one til the end. Both owners and all the staff were so kind to us and always keen on fulfilling every wish to give us an unforgettable stay. I had many lovely and interesting talks with Mehdi, Amin, Yassine, Samer and Mohammad learning about Moroccan culture, life and sights. I just felt right at home and am dreaming of coming back already .
The staff was always attentive, caring, kind and funny. It was a nice feeling, particularly as women, that there was always someone looking out at night to make sure the Riad is safe and sound whenever we came home, even later at night.
The rooms were beautifully decorated and had everything basic one needs. If anything was ever missing, the staff made sure we were provided with it.
We’ve booked the hammam including massages which were just perfect and so relaxing.
The roof terrasse was so beautiful, quiet and we had many hours of relaxing in the sun with some delicious mint tea brought to us by the exceptional staff. It was the perfect oasis to return to after an exciting day walking around the souk or looking at sights. The location was just perfect. The medina/souk is just 5 minutes of walking away and the riad is very easy to find after having walked the way once or twice. I always felt safe, even on my own in the dark. The moroccan goods you can buy in the souk are just beautiful and the shop owners were always friendly and kind toward me and my three girl friends.
Mehdi, the co-owner, gave us really good tips and recommendations and we could have booked whatever we wanted to do and visit with him, but had booked a lot already beforehand. I am sure he will make everything possible for you you wish to see but never pressured us to book anything with the hotel which was a nice feeling.
The dinner, particularly the "Moroccan salat" was incredibly delicious and one of the best meals I've had in Marrakech. All in all, our stay at Riad Nelia was just perfect and I want to come back as soon as possible.
Thank you so much to everyone at Riad Nelia, especially Mehdi, Amin, Yassine, Samer and Mohammad. You were the reason why this holiday will stay in our hearts forever and I can't wait to return.
All the best and lots of love and happiness from...
