Absolutely flawless and the perfect base for my first time in Marrakech.
I was greeted by Peter on my arrival, who gave me an map to familiarise myself with the area and made some reccomendations for lunch/dinner spots around Marrakech - several of which I tried and was very impressed on each occasion.
The room was brillant and very clean - basic but with everything I needed and authenticly decorated. Each room has A/C which of course is very much appreciated during summer and the bed was fantastically comfortable.
The riad itself is beautiful, and I was invited to relax in one of the many common areas available. The roof terrace was brilliant and a great place to cool off after a hot day in the medina.
Breakfast was an absolute highlight. Healthy, fresh, and delicious with a number of traditional Moroccan elements that varied on each day. Makes a refreshing change from a usual, claggy hotel breakfast!
Hassan, Adil, and Sayed took great care of me throughout my stay, including serving up breakfast and some of the best mint tea that I tried during my time in Morocco, whenever I fancied it.
The team were even kind enough to show me to a local hamman which is just around the corner from the riad. It was a... memorable experience, but one which was authentic and could not be matched by a tourist hamman. As bonus, it cost just 100 Dhs including tips and the purchase of a kessa glove and black soap which is not provided at real hammans, making it a fraction of the cost of what would be paid at a hamman/spa that was geared towards tourists.
One thing to be careful of (and this is a problem everywhere in Marrakech), is that locals will forcibly 'help' you find your riad even if you aren't lost. Obviously they expect a tip for this 'service', but if help was not asked for then it is acceptable to politely decline (of course if you are genuinely lost, and not just stopping to check a map, a small tip of no more than 5 dhs is reasonable if you are already very close). This happened numerous times during my stay, but the riad is not difficult to find; the positioning of the riad of google maps (relative to the surrounding roads/alleyways) is exact, and in my experience, I found my mobile's GPS to work consistently throughout the medina. Additionally, the staff at the riad are contactable by phone if you really are lost. Absolutely nothing to do with the riad, but something to be careful of when making your way here.
Overall, a super postive stay at Riad Dar Zaman, and one which I will look forward to when I visit...
Read moreI just can't stop thinking about the black, polished plaster walls of our beautiful bathroom here at Dar Zaman in Marrakech. After 17 days in Morocco, this was the perfect last stop. Dar Zaman masterfully brings the beauty of traditional riads to the 21st century with modern touches while maintaining warm hospitality.
In planning our trip and arriving to Marrakech, Dar Zaman was very communicative and extremely helpful. They gave detailed instructions in finding the medina and locating parking. A staff member met us at our car and facilitated parking for us. Walking through the medina is a magical experience for the first time, and Dar Zaman is located smack dab in the heart of it all.
When we arrived and were settled, Hassan made us the BEST mint tea in all of Morroco (no joke!) and spent ample time walking us through a map of the medina to highlight everything that would interest us. He set the stage for a fantastic visit and helped to facilitate everything we needed, including making dinner reservations on our behalf.
We elected to do a cooking class at the riad and could not have been more thrilled. Hasan took us to the local market where we purchased fresh ingredients before working with the wonderful cook Karima at the riad to prepare our meal. We learned about Moroccan cooking techniques and pairing flavors for the tagine lunch we selected. It worked out having rainy weather during the 3-4 hours of the class, but I would do it again rain or shine!
Our room was modern and tidy with windows opening onto the flower-filled central courtyard of the riad. But our bathroom... I can't stop thinking about our bathroom. The entire bathroom was covered in gorgeous, shiny black/charcoal plaster (it's a special Moroccan technique of plaster work that makes it water and mildew resistant - how cool). It felt like stepping into a spa each time.
It's so clear that the staff - Hassan, Adil, Karima - deeply respect the owner Peter and love working at Dar Zaman. That came through in every interaction with them and can be testified by having kept in touch with them since leaving. They were kind and communicative while still being respectful of our space when we needed. I would come back here in...
Read moreMe and my boyfriend stayed at Riad dar zaman for a week in the end of April. This was a trip of a lifetime thanks to the team and Dar zaman. From start to finish everyone in the riad was so attentive, kind and just simply amazing. Hassan and Aldi were incredibly helpful. Peter the owner was also very kind and great and giving us information prior to trip( booking our camel ride and. door to door service, which was amazing, driver very kind and air conned car, was a nice touch to have arriving and leaving!) Hassan gave us a detailed map, explaining in detail what he recommended. From food to gardens to music museums. He went through some simple language and cultural points to help us navigate the medina and the beautiful marrakesh. He essentially gave us all the information we needed and we instantly felt comfortable and ready to explore. We stayed in the terrace room, it really felt like home. The terrace was beautiful, we had breakfast on the rooftop every morning and was also a great place to relax in the day with a lovely cold outdoor shower. Breakfast was incredible with a range for everyone! We ate for dinner here and also had lunch and by far the food we had here was the best we had in our whole stay. Orange cake, kefta tagine and chicken couscous is amazing ! They really have some amazing chefs making the most authentic morrocon food.
We had constant supply of cold filtered water, complimentary nuts and mint tea. The room cleaning service was lovely they made the room very tidy with fresh towels, the little details such as putting all my hair grips together was a lovely touch, everyone in the team had a smile and said hello. We felt so welcomed!
The riad was clean and the plunge pool was lovely for hot days. On a whole the interior was incredible. Also great location very close to all popular attractions if not a very short cheap taxi away!
We are still astonished that by the end of the first day Riad dar zaman felt like home! We loved our stay and we will be back and also recommending this riad to anyone visiting marrakesh.
I can talk forever about the team at the riad and the moments and service they provided that truly made our trip.
Thank you very much and I am sure we...
