THEY LIED. PLEASE READ MY ENTIRE RESPONSE TO THEIR DISHONEST AND MISLEADING COMMENTS BELOW.

It brings me no pleasure to say this, but these people are dishonest and not interested correcting their mistakes. The store benefits from a rich history (and clear kickbacks from tour guides who bring their clients there), but it is a bait-and-switch.

My parents, seasoned global travelers, visited this store last month and were interested in purchasing a carpet for my home. My parents ordered the rug in-store, and I recall having conversations with them and the salespeople to confirm the specifics of our order. (Again: my parents are seasoned global travelers and have purchased items abroad many times).

While my husband and I were excited to receive the order, we were incredibly disappointed to discover two things:

1. The carpet did not reflect the specific customization request for tassels on BOTH SIDES of the rug that was discussed, agreed upon, and outlined explicitly at the time of purchase. We took care to ensure our preferences were communicated and understood, so this oversight is both surprising and frustrating.
2. An unexpected tax of almost $1000 was demanded by DHL, which added 10-14 days to the delivery of the item. Phase #1 of Dishonesty: To add insult to injury, I phoned them after my email to them went unanswered. "The Owner" said that tassels are "easy" to add, and if I go somewhere local to have them add tassels, "he will pay". This is suspicious and untrustworthy, given the promises made prior regarding the customization and taxes. He also refused to reply to my email confirming this promise that was made. Phase #2 of Dishonesty: He then suggested that we take the conversation offline and communicate via WhatsApp. When I refused to get the tassel error corrected by taking it to a store near me to have them put on, (which is nuts- why would I bother doing that if I have an authentic Moroccan carper?), he agreed to take the carpet back for correction. SPOILER ALERT: HE LIED Phase #3 of Dishonesty: He said that it was "too expensive for him to take the carpet back". (Duh). He then tried to blame the error on a shipping label that we did not write the tassel information on. What? He admitted that it was the salesperson's fault. Phase #4: They tried to send us some "other" carpets that they had. I don't need another carpet, I need a carpet for the room that I CUSTOM ORDERED the carpet for. Phase #5- a "bazillion" WhatsApp Messages later: They tried to have us take it to a carpet store again- which I refused, again. I asked for some sort of refund, (NOT 100%...but partial), they have refused.

It is a shame that we were taken advantage of, especially after choosing to support a local business and trusting their team. We were also planning one (EDITED FOR CORRECTION: actually at least two) more from them- not anymore.

UPDATE TO THEIR RESPONSE LINE BY LINE:

1. We want to clarify that we did not lie to you — it seems there was a misunderstanding during your visit to our office. ANSWER: *Yes you did, you said that you would pay me back if I got tassels put on here. *You also said that you would allow me to return the carpet to have it remade or fixed.

2. We rely on written notes in our registered book, not only verbal communication. ANSWER: Don't insult my intelligence. I did not say that VERBAL was the only way that our order was confirmed, I just said I remember having that conversation as well.

3. Regarding the tassels, we kindly suggested you take the carpet to a professional and informed you that we would cover the cost. ANSWER: Yes, and I told you that is not acceptable and WHY it is not acceptable.

4. As for taxes, it is standard procedure to pay import taxes when receiving goods from abroad. ANSWER: Again, don't insult my intelligence. My family have been purchasing things overseas for 50 years. That was only an element of my dissatisfaction point, and not the primary complaint. What an amazing shopping experience! I have been following Les Nomades on Instagram for a few years now, so I was delighted to finally see their selection of rugs in person. I am excited to say that the experience was even better than what I had built up in my mind. We went in without an appointment, but Abdullah was able to get us in to see rugs without issue. It's clear that the team here really wants their customers to be happy and will do what they can to accommodate their customers price range and specifications. After selecting an extremely high quality and one of a kind rug that we love, Imane helped take care of logistics like shipping, alterations and payment. Overall we are very pleased with our experience here. We shopped at many carpet stores in both Fés and Marrakech and this was by far the best experience we had. As an Architect and Designer, I really appreciate the craftsmanship, design, detail and history of any products and/or materials I choose for my projects. I came to Les Nomades because I found their products (and service) to be superior. We purchased several high pile wool rugs for our home that is currently under construction in Italy. They are willing to store and ship them for us until we are ready at no additional cost. We even asked them to customize/cut one large rug that we love to fit the size of the room into 1 rug for the master bedroom and a matching runner for the master bathroom at no additional cost. Abdullah was amazing. He is so kind, friendly and knowledgeable. No rush and no pressure to buy. They are not cheap rugs, but they are 100% top quality hand-made wool rugs, no artificial dyes, all natural. We think we got a fair price. The ones we got are also one-of-a-kind, very special items. Also there are so many benefits of having wool rugs in your home (instead of synthetic materials).
