This hotel is truly a little oasis in the city! I have visited Kathmandu multiple times over the past 4 years and have stayed in a wide-range of hotels in the Thamel area. That said, Hotel Sapana Garden is my favorite Thamel hotel by far!
This hotel opened its doors just a few weeks ago; therefore, everything is brand new and super clean. I especially enjoyed the comfortable bed with the cosy duvet, crisp white sheets and plump pillows. My room was very well furnished with a flat screen TV, air-conditioning unit, refrigerator, kettle and even a little basket in the washroom with toothpaste, toothbrushes, a razor, shaving cream, etc. My room had a separate little seating area which was the perfect place to unwind after spending busy days sightseeing. I also had a quaint little balcony with a small table and chairs. Perfect for that evening glass of wine and sunset views.
In addition to the exceptional room, the staff were top notch too. From the receptionists to the cleaning staff to the owners - everyone was super friendly and accommodating and always willing to help me in any way that they could. Buffet style breakfast, with a decent selection of items, was also included in the room price. Lunch and dinner were also available on-site for an additional cost.
My absolute favorite part of my stay though? The fact that somehow in the hustle and bustle of Thamel this hotel is tucked away from the street just enough to provide a calm, quiet atmosphere. There is a beautiful garden area that is ideal for relaxing in the morning sun or sitting to have afternoon tea. The sound of the running water from the garden fountain perfectly masks any background city noise.
Hotel Sapana Garden is the gem of hotels in Thamel and is very well-priced for the amenities it provides. I will definitely stay at Sapana Garden again in the future and would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants an affordable, luxury hotel which offers a comfortable, relaxing environment. Thank you to everyone who made my stay here enjoyable. And...
Read moreABOUT THE HOTEL If you like a busy place, but your hotel to be a peaceful place, then Hotel Sapana Garden is for you. Narayan and his amazing team are inviting, thorough, kind and patient. The entrance of the dead end street has a buddhist temple guiding you to a peaceful street.
ROOMS I have stayed here twice in the last year on two separate visits. It is always clean with comfortable beds, soft pillows and sheets and a nice hot overhead shower. The storage in the room is sizeable for 2 suitcases with hanging clothes if you like to unpack like I prefer.
SERVICES The restaurant is temporarily closet this visit, but had some extremely tasty noodles and breakfast items. For breakfast, I would definitely sit and enjoy the green tranquility in the backyard seating.
Need transport? Narayan and team provide this service and they have always been on time. As a news junkie, I was frustrated by the Tata vox not working, but most people are not coming to hotels for TV and Delhi hotels have the same issues.
PLACES NEAR HOTEL SAPANA It is walking distance to Single Tree if you like a 1 hour walk and Monkey Trails for those that like a jungle run. Shopping, Darbar Square, and amazing food and bars are nearby.
HINT: If you want a cold beer for your room, leave the hotel to the main street and take a left to the corner shop just after the Indian Embassy where Tuborgs are only 450nrp. If you want polish chocolate or some other asian snacks and chinese fruit candies, leave the hotel and take a left 2 blocks just after the Ballys Casino.

Read moreA clean spacious hotel located in prime location at Thamel. I enjoyed my stay here and the warm hospitality provided by the staff, who were friendly and always making sure our needs are met.
There are two ways to exit the hotel - through thrain entrance or the garden. From the main entrance, if you turn left towards the "dead end", there is a "secret' narrow path that would take you directly to the busy touristy street of Thamel. You can find out more from their friendly staff.
A 3-star hotel providing 5-star service.
Unfortunately, I took a star off for the following amenities-related reasons: We stayed on the first night and last night of Nepal in different rooms: Both rooms had issue with consistent hot showers. The water will turn extremely hot/cold without further adjustment to the knob. Shower heads are extremely old and instead of a proper stream, I get many stray streams of cold water. Minor inconvenience for adults but difficult to shower a toddler, especially with sudden temperature increase of the warm water. I showered him with colder water to be safe. Shower curtain was old and dirty. The second room has signal issues and there was no TV programmes - but hey, not here for the TV programmes but a good thing to...
