This hotel is everything you want from a reasonably priced, 5-star hotel. The first thing you notice is the attention to detail the owners put into everything. The wood in the lobby matches the wood in the dining room, which all matches the wood in your room. The room was clean and the air conditioning (which I normally wouldn't use) was a huge bonus. The elevator made my returns from shopping sprees much easier to manage! There's an outdoor seating area on the second floor for the dining room -- order downstairs, or tell the desk clerk to have the dining attendant come up to you. But I used it regularly for a nice, clean, quiet, work environment. Ask for a milk (masala) tea to be delivered to you, then relax with speedy, reliable WiFi and get stuff done. The food was excellent. Generous portions, freshly made, and quick service. But there's so much more to a hotel than all this. The food can be great, the atmosphere can be great, but if the staff aren't equally great, you've got nothing. I can tell you I was more impressed with the staff at this hotel than I've been at hotels twice this price! The staff were attentive, friendly, and seem to genuinely enjoy working there. Here's a bonus that most travelers don't consider when heading to developing countries: The water coming from the shower and taps was clean! I've stayed at other hotels (loads in Kathmandu) where the water smelled like something you did not want to be near. At Hotel Elegant I felt like I was back home with a clean, hot shower and very nice bathroom. LOCATION: As they say in real estate, it's all about "location, location, location." Hotel Elegant is in a QUIET spot, tucked away off Lekh Nath Marg, and up a ways from the Thamelshwor Mahadev Temple (which, fortunately, locks at night so you don't have random folks banging the brass bells at 3:00 a.m.!). It's a quick walk either way to Thamel -- either left to go from Lekh Nath Marg to Sorakhutte, then up toThamel or Chhatrapati, or turn right out onto Lekh Nath Marg and head around to Thamel Marg. This hotel is an absolute hidden...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I stayed at Eco Hotel Kathmandu for nearly a week before we went on a trek to Langtang Valley. This was right before the riots started in Kathmandu. We had an amazing time and were so friendly welcomed by all the staff. We even had a guided tour through the city led by the hotel owner Bimal. The rooms were good and were cleaned everyday. ||||Then after the trek our plan was to go to Pokhara. But because of the riots in all the cities we decided not to go anymore. So we contacted Bimal again and asked if we could stay with them for a couple days. We didn’t know when we’d arrive back from the trek because the buses didn’t drive. This was no problem and Bimal assured us he would have a room for us whenever we got back. This was such a great relief for us. He also assured us he would get us to the airport safely. This was a good relief for us because by that time we didn’t know what the situation would be in Kathmandu. ||||When we came back though, everything seemed back to normal. No riots in the streets, people going about their daily business and all the people in Nepal ever so friendly. And when we walk around the streets of Kathmandu it still feels very safe. We already booked our flight, otherwise we might have decided to still stay a little longer if we’d have known it would be safe like this. ||||Also we were welcomed back to the hotel by the staff so great. Every staff member asked about our trekking experience and how we were doing. If you are planning a trip to Nepal, I would really recommend it and I would also really recommend staying at...
Read moreExceptional Hospitality at Kathmandu Express Hotel I am currently staying at the Kathmandu Express Hotel while attending the World Sanskrit Conference, and I feel compelled to share my wonderful experience with the outstanding staff here. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the exceptional service, particularly from Bimal, whose dedication to hospitality is truly remarkable. When I mentioned that I don’t eat cooked food from outside establishments—a personal dietary preference I shared with him early on—he immediately understood and took action. With the invaluable assistance of Kupila, an amazing attendant, they worked together to arrange everything I needed. Their thoughtful approach and attention to detail made what could have been a challenging situation completely seamless. What strikes me most about Bimal is his incredible work ethic and positive energy. He works tirelessly for more than 12 hours each day, yet maintains the same enthusiasm and warmth with every guest throughout his shift. His consistent energy and genuine care for guests’ comfort is truly inspiring and sets a gold standard for hospitality. Thanks to Bimal, Kupila, and the entire well-trained staff at this hotel, I feel completely at home during my stay in Kathmandu. Their professionalism, understanding, and commitment to guest satisfaction have made my conference experience truly memorable. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to Bimal, Kupila, and all the dedicated staff members who have made my stay so comfortable and welcoming. This level of service excellence deserves recognition and...
