Angelo runs a fantastic Bed & Breakfast thanks to his personal touch!
My wife and I were on holiday for my 40th birthday in the great city of Amsterdam. We had never stayed at a B&B before and decided this would be a great time to try something different. Well, I am so ecstatic that we chose Crown B&B as our first choice because we had an excellent experience that satisfied our needs as experienced travellers. There are 3 items that really stuck out to us that made our experience a memorable one!
Location! Location! Location!
You are in a prime location. There are several main attractions that are within your grasp as soon as you walk out of your door. You are literally within walking distance of Centraal Station (5min) Dam Square (5 min), Anne Frank House (10min), and the famed Red Light District (10 min). Also, there is a supermarket a few blocks away, a mall (Magna Plaza), additionally, at the end of Spuistraat, there are several phenomenal eateries. (I highly recommend a Malaysian restaurant named Kantjil & De Tijger)
The Space Itself
Let me begin by saying that our room was situated inside of a beautiful historic canal house that is in the typical style of most of the homes found on the canals in Amsterdam. It is a building that is over a 150 years old with charm and character. The room was very spacious and clean and included some items that you wouldn't find in your typical hotel room without paying big bucks for it! My wife was ecstatic to have her own vanity, where she can do her hair and make up, without constant interruption by me! FInally, the bathroom was humongous! It had a stand up shower, whirlpool, and an adequately sized sink. The room was adorned in marble that made it look very classy.
Angelo
Angelo is the point person who runs Crown B&B on the daily. He is also this place’s greatest resource. He is a wealth of knowledge in regard to eateries, attractions, and necessities in the area. He was very diligent in making sure our needs were taken care of. Every morning he put out a diverse spread of breakfast that included coffee, juice, cereal, fruit, an assortment of breads and cold cuts, and ingredients to make omelets as well. This proved to be very helpful as food is not cheap in AMS. He took great pride in keeping our room clean and providing us with any help that we required. He even gave me a pair of pliers to fix my backpack!
Now the Cons The only con that i can think of is the stairs! The rooms are located on the 3rd floor and there isn’t an elevator on site. You have to walk up several steep, narrow sets of stairs to get to you room. When you arrive you have lug your bags up these narrow stairs, proving to be a difficult task, especially if you’re someone like myself whose stamina and endurance could use a little work! However, Angelo did help us with this as well LOL!!!! Overall a great place and I highly recommend Crown B&B without any reservations. The pros definitely...
Read moreI had a very enjoyable stay at the Crown Guesthouse during my visit to Amsterdam. Angelo - one of the owners - was a charming and helpful gentleman. He was responsive to my inquiries and helped me carry my luggage through the classic Dutch-style, narrow and steep staircase to the third floor where my room was located. He also recommended some cafes and restaurants in the area for authentic Dutch food and drinks.||||The place was walking distance from the major attractions: 5-10 minutes to the nearest tram, 10 minutes to the Anne Frank House, 10 minutes to Dam Square, 15 minutes to the Red Light District, and 20 minutes to the LGBT area. Most importantly, it was only 10-15 minutes to the Amsterdam Centraal, so somehow the place could be reached from Schiphol Airport "by train and foot". There were plenty of restaurants, "coffeeshops", cafes (the real coffee shops), bars, souvenir stores, and supermarkets/groceries in the neighborhood. A tattoo parlor was just at the ground floor. There was a bit of some noise in the evening because the place was right by the road, but that added more to the experience and did not bother my sleep at all. Outside the room - the common area, there were complimentary pastries and fruits.||||I had the 1-bed, nonsmoking double room which was spacious and clean, with comfortable bed, pillows and blankets, functioning hot showers, temperature control, table and chair, sofa, cabinet, and other basic amenities such as electric kettle, nespresso machine and fridge. I was likewise given a bottle of white wine, orange and apple juice tetra packs, a pack of mini stroopwafels, beer in can, and bottled water as welcome items. The tap water was potable, too.||||I highly recommend the Crown Guesthouse to everyone travelling to Amsterdam, especially first timers. To Angelo, maraming salamat from Manila,...
Read moreCrown Guesthouse (Previously called Crown Bed & Breakfast is indeed a wonderful place to stay if you were to visit Amsterdam. My wife and I visited Amsterdam for the first time and we decided to stay here after reading so many great reviews about this place. We felt so welcome even before we arrive here. The fantastic host Angelo has been so helpful and resourceful. He told us in advance on how to get from Amsterdam Central station to the address and that makes our navigating so much easier. He even helped to carry our heavy luggage up the narrow and steep staircase to the 3rd level where the room is located. The room with attached bath & shower room is so cozy & spacious. The deco is superb and the bed is so comfortable to sleep in. It is ideally located within the centre of Amsterdam Old Town, and major attractions are all within walking distances. Highly recommended if you are looking for a great place to stay...
