Pros: Perfect Location. 30 min. or less walk to anything you need to get to. Room looked very nice. Bathroom looked very modern and nice.
Cons: This wasn't an issue for me (31y/o) or my wife (30y/o), but the staircase to the rooms is definitely something people need to be aware of. the elderly, people with mobility issues and anyone with big luggage will have a very difficult time making it up and down the very narrow, very steep, winding staircase.
The floor and small carpet in the room wasn't cleaned prior to our arrival. there was dust and dirt everywhere, especially under the bed (nobody had cleaned under there for a very long time, it scared me when I looked)
For the price, breakfast should be included, It is Not.
The Hotel markets itself as a hotel, but its really more of a nicer hostel with private rooms. the front desk is not 24hrs, and does not even have the basics of a first aid kit. (my wife was run over by a bicycle and when I requested an ice pack they informed me they did not have an ice machine anywhere, nor an ice pack in the first aid kit). The woman at the front desk was very nice and did her best, but she was not provided with the basic tools that any other Hotel would have. normally when you are at a Hotel when you want the towels changed you leave them on the floor and housekeeping removes them and replaces them with clean towels. well, here they do it a bit differently. they just take those towels on the floor and don't replace them with anything, so now me and my wife had to share 1 small towel for the 2 of us the next morning. (they fixed the situation immediately when I spoke to the front desk the next morning, but it shouldn't have happened in the first place) also normally when housekeeping comes in to clean the room, they check to see if you have any toilet paper. we were almost out of the one roll that was provided and they didn't leave us another one when they cleaned the room. so, we ran out of toilet paper (also, this situation was fixed immediately when I alerted the front desk in the morning), however because we arrived home late at night and the front desk was closed we had to make do with makeshift toilet paper until the next morning. we stayed 6 nights, not once were our bedsheets or pillow cases changed. they just put the comforter back on the bed, tuck it in and thats it.
They advertise bike rental services, but its really just a 5% coupon they give you to a rental place somewhere nearby. (we didn't look any further into it)
-The pictures of the room are very deceiving. right in the middle of the all shots of the room, they put a picture of the front desk with a kitchen area in it. We thought the rooms came with a kitchen area because of this sneaky marketing ploy. very deceiving...
Read moreFirst of all the personnel - dark hair gentleman wearing glasses who appeared to be receptionist lacks basic skills to do the job - first of all his attitude: when we entered the property he seemed to be offended to see us there, secondly, there’s a tremendous lack of communication from him - he doesn’t communicate clearly with the guests - we have been given the bedroom on top floor (which we asked for) and then wanted to change to a ground floor as the stairs leading upstairs were extremely steep and dangerous - I understand that hotel could be fully committed, which is fine, but it could have been communicated in a friendly way, secondly hot water - there was no hot water to have a shower - and again - no solution have been offered by this receptionist - luckily the hot water have been reinstalled after we came back from having breakfast, and that’s another thing that is not clearly displayed on website - you need to literally walk miles in order to get breakfast! You pay for the breakfast, but you won’t have it there, you need to walk 15 minutes to another hotel of this chain - Quentin Amsterdam - to get breakfast! Nothing exciting either, for extra €50 I would have an amazing breakfast with things like fresh avocados, toasts and many other products and the breakfast they serve in there is just a mediocre white toasty breakfast with some boiled eggs with brown yolks inside and a lot of sugary products!!! Do not recommend if your diabetic! Just poor, poor, poor! On checkout we have been informed by that male receptionist that there is no luggage hold room and we cannot leave it there, no solution from his side was offered so I had to came up with an idea of him calling second hotel to find out if they could hold our luggage (that was literally two school size backpacks), they didn’t see any problem and again, I don’t understand the role of this guy in this hotel, as a face of the hotel? What does he represent? I’m not going to come back as I’m really disappointed and that place isn’t worth...
Read moreHonest reviews. The location is the only thing going for this hotel just outside the city centre, within close walking distance from the museums and transport links.
The hotel it's self has a clean, moden looking resepion with hallway leading to room's upstairs and basement.
The rooms are a different matter. cramped and unclean with the window being proped up with 4x2 timber if lucky or, in our case, a used weed brownie box from previous guests. Most rooms come with a thick layer of dust, mould in the bathroom, and stains on the furniture. The bedding and pillows poorly fit the bed, leading to a bad night's rest. Do not use the kettle in the room! We found dead and living flies in stagnant water.
Bathrooms / showerroom are tiny with poor to no ventilation, leading to mould issues. The sink is too heavy for the shelf and has split it from the wight. Towels are old and treded, and there's no were to put them to dry out.
The hotel staff, most are friendly and polite but don't expect them to go out the way to help.
Our experience with this hotel.
Upon arrival, we checked in at the desk and paid the city tax ( which is stranded for all hotels in Amsterdam ), we also had to pay a deposit €100 for the room.
We headed to our room and found the room was so bad that they offered us a different room for no extra cost at first.
The seconded room was better, but not by much with no other choice, we expected it. We found a spray bottle of cleaning fluid and cleaned the room ourselves, making it livable.
On the last day, we handed in the room keys and were told that we needed to pay more city tax fees, which we had already paid in full at the start. We didn't pay it and still wait for the deposit back.
Safe to say, it's probably best to...
