We couldn't ask for more. Whenever I'm in Amsterdam, I plan to stay here. From the moment I saw the photos online, I was seduced by the place's obvious charm, central location, and the stunning views of the canal in the front room. When my husband and I arrived, we were blown away - somehow the room was even better than the photos. It was clean, the bed was big and so comfortable, the decor was modern and stylish, the room and ensuite bathroom (wet room style, with a large, powerful shower & a useful towel heater) were both spacious, by any standard but especially by Amsterdam standards, and the host provided all sorts of amenities - guide books, fiction, tea, coffee, utensils, plates, cups, wine glasses -- they even provided an umbrella and voltage converter plugs. We were both supremely impressed -- and we are nitpickers, very difficult to please, let alone impress. It was love at first sight. The host was easy to reach and we were able to get fresh towels when needed. A room clean was offered but we declined because we were sleeping in. There was both heating and air conditioning, and the windows opened wide so we could let the fresh air in and feel as though we were part of the city, even in our room. It also had a table for working or eating, and a large, flat screen television, but who wants to watch TV when the magic of Amsterdam is right at your doorstep? Amsterdam is my favorite place in the world, and this is my favorite part of town. This was my third time visiting. Both other times I was unhappy with my housing - the first was a cheap hostel which while easy on the wallet felt like sleeping in a closet. The second was a one bedroom apartment, which was not nearly as nice as this and quadruple the price. I felt cheated. Third time is a charm. This room was everything we needed and more - and it was affordable! A shock for such an amazing location. Incredible value. I suggest you book through their website for the best price. About a 15 minute walk to most attractions, on the outskirts of the red light district, we were right around the corner from Central Station, the famed Bulldog hostel & bar, coffee shops, Amsterdam breakfast gem, Omelegg, and many other fantastic dining options. The Amsterdam Cheese Deli across the canal gave out delicious samples of dozens of cheeses and we wound up leaving with several blocks. We didn't need to use public transit to get anywhere. In a word, it was perfect. I absolutely adore this place, it will forever be in my heart, and I will be sure to return to it as soon as I...
Read moreWe have literally just got home, which shows just how amazing this place was to stay that I wanted to write a review immediately.||||We stayed Friday 25th Oct- Mon 28th Oct. In the lead up to it, David was very helpful in replying to our emails with our concerns as we had booked at the start of September with Thomas Cook who then collapsed a few weeks later.||||The instructions on arrival were communicated via email, they were exactly what we needed to do. There were no troubles on arrival (there's no reception).||||The location is brilliant. Everything you need is within walking distance and transport to anywhere else you may want to go is also within walking distance. There is an amazing rock bar on the corner next to here and a nice bar with ourdoor seating just across from here where you can sit and look onto the canal.||||The room was beautiful and so clean! It smelt so fresh on arrival and the room was beautiful. We didn't have the room with the canal view but that was perfectly fine. The shower reached perfect temperatures, the tv was big and the bed was so comfortable. The room was also nice and warm. To say the room is so central, the noise that actually gets to the room is minimal. ||||Our flight wasn't until late today and David very kindly let us leave our suitcase on the landing, which the other guests seemed to do as well whilst we explored until our flight. ||||All in all, it was a perfect 30th birthday weekend away and I'm very thankful to David for providing excellent accomodation. We will hopefully be back soon when we can manage another holiday...
Read moreOur second time at this absolutely wonderful place...we've gotten the canal-view room both times (lucky us) and David does everything to make your stay so comfortable. As everyone says, location- that short walk from the train station and the fact that you can walk to all the main attractions, just perfect, the room itself - AC, comfortable bed, windows you can open, great room darkening curtains, a killer shower with plenty of hot water, everything provided - and then some - plus so nicely decorated, again just perfect. And David is a wonderful, thoughtful host. |So from our perspective, all Pros and no Cons...2 mentions that didn't bother us but might be considered by some - it is one flight up and stairs might not be your thing and the current restaurant on the ground floor is a tad noisier (outdoor tables).|If/when we come back to this lovely city, this would always...
