Motel 80 — Hotel in Albert-Eden

Asked if we could check in later or have a key left for us as we were flying in late and we’re told that we could not be checked in without photo ID and the credit card I paid with. After suggesting just sending through my photo ID and sorting out the rest later as we had no where else to stay I was told there was nothing else they could do. Later I received a phone call from another employee saying that they could do late check in and they would leave a key and I could check in in the morning. When I went to check in in the morning they didn’t ask for photo ID or the credit card I paid with either. Great right, Nope. Walking into the room it looked run down smelled strongly of paint walked into the bathroom mould all through the shower and on the shower head and left over used soap from the person before. The bins had not been changed the microwave was dirty and there was some small black stains on the pillow cases. I would avoid this place 100%. Poor customer service and poor cleanliness. This place isn't worth the price and they don’t do refunds either. An honest...

Upon arrival I was given my key at the reception which was nice and easy check in. However as we drove to our room, I noticed the 3+ old mattresses to the right of our room, ripped up and dumped in the corner. There was rubbish on the ground and the massive bin outside our room with the lid open. I went in the room with my 2 children and was blown away by the smell. My 8 year old kept saying the room smelt like rat pee. I noticed all the grime caked in the walls and the bench tops. There was 3 incense set up around the room trying to mask the smell... the TV hanging on the wall doesn't even reach the PowerPoint on the opposite side of the wall. There were cardboard air fresheners that you hang on your rear view car mirror on the floor all around the room. And don't even bother trying to look out the window, all that's there is toilet paper, cigarette butts, lots of rubbish and a shed that looks to be a other dumping ground for broken junk and more rubbish. I would highly recommend not wasting your money to stay here as I definitely won't make that mistake again....

So, you're in the market for a cheap motel. This one fits the bill, it had beds, a few kitchen facilities and a decent bathroom. Bearing in mind that it's a cheap motel, there are some things which you will need to take in your stride, for instance the room promised some things that it didn't deliver (rooms were tiled and not carpeted, there was no balcony, there was no drying rack). It was also awkwardly laid out and needed some maintenance and repair work--- nothing too bad, but still needed.

Other reviews have complained about cleanliness, and we didn't have a problem with that.

The sign was not lit, and picking out the entrance was not particularly easy for me as an out of towner.

But these are all quibbles, none of them were deal breakers. If it just misses out on being 'cheap and cheerful' it is still way better than some other motels which could be described as 'cheap and bleak'.
