What a delightful dining experience provided by the terrific team at Sakimoto Bistro. Even though we had no reservation these wonderful guys went out of their way to provide a beautiful table for two and even set up several heaters to ensure we were cosy and warm. Their menus were exquisite and all items had an image so you knew exactly WYSIWYG. After we'd taken time to pick out our meals it was a mere matter of minutes before we had our first meals rolling out. It was a synchronized performance of dish after dish and the team did not skip a beat purring like a fine tuned motor. All our meals were piping hot and presented with lovely detail. The flavours of each meal really packed a punch. We highly recommend their buta pork ramen soup was gregarious and gratifying. Their tempura dishes were deliciously crisp and had us craving for more. Eyeing the dishes of our fellow patrons, we saw many other plates which had our eyes dilating with delirious joy. We cannot wait to come back and try one of their sublime salads or fragrant curries which were very fine and fetching to the senses. Our beverages were fabulously chilled and they had an impressive assortment of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. All our waiters went out of their way to be attentive and kind to my elderly mother providing her with Western culinary utensils to eat along with taking the time to make sure she ordered something she would enjoy. The bistro has a lovely homely feel and the vibe was superb. The place was humming which seems to suggest that it is a very popular spot to meet for fast, friendly and fantastic service and fare. Nobody knows how to treat a guest as well as the Japanese! Please pass my compliments to your front and back team. Well done on such a polished and professional service. Doomo arigato...

Read moreDelicious 😋 This is one of the authentic Japanese restaurants in Christchurch (run by Japanese people). They are always busy and the place is packed, full of people. It is situated inside the Cathedral Junction, with other retail outlets and restaurants. We ordered quite a few dishes to share for 2 adults and 2 tweens. The dishes were (as followed in the photos) new style sashimi (white fish), 2 sashimi assortments, 6 boiled dumplings (Gyoza), Udon noodle soup, salmon sashimi on rice, sliced octopus, soft shell crab with garlic oyster sauce, tempura chicken with lemon soy sauce, 3 pieces of king prawn (tempura), and 2 large hot Ozeki in traditional tumbler. The foods itself were excellent, delicious and yummy. Very authentic Japanese dishes made by Japanese chefs. We ended up having too much and had to take away the tempura chicken but I forgot to take it home when we left. I do recommend that you book ahead, as they do get very busy especially Friday and Saturday evenings. The seating is limited inside the shop, and the tables are very close to each other (unless you don’t mind elbow to elbow). Whilst they have outdoor seating, it will be cold especially during the winter season.
