This is my first time to review in Google...
I was just been there with my 9 year old son. My son asked whether he can play piano in the hallway, because he was fascinated by the piano.
A staff said yes only if he can finish his dishes. So he happily finished his dishes though it was a bit big dish for him.
After finish his dishes, my son was eager to play it, but another staff stopped him playing it, because it was not open to public.
I went back to O.G.B to find the pserson who said yes, because I knew how much my son wanted to play it during his tea. He asked me again and again when he can play it. Though my son is not professional, he could play some songs with fine melodies (to me..) ... When I asked it again to some other staff, the staff who stopped my son cut in again and said, he was the manager and told me the same thing again.
We just got out of there and back to our accomodation in Heritage hotel which is in the same hallway. My son is very disappointed and said he will not go there again. I do not know what to say to my son...
It is his school holiday and we are from Dunedin. Surely we did not come Christchurch only to play piano in the O.G.B., but... it is a bit...um... disappointing to me as well.... I do not know what to say....
If he..or someone said no in the first place, we would not try it, and my son did not have to eat so much.... and... suffer from a disappointment...
It was 7 pm, not even close to 10pm... I am so sorry to experience this... maybe can we have a chance to listen to any piano playing during our staying in the hotel? We are not here only for one day... I hope it works... because I believe that you hired some professionals...
F.Y.I. someone from the hotel told me that the owner of the piano is O.G,B., so I should ask it to O.G.B. if I want to play it..... ... then... was it too late to play piano in 7pm ....? hmm...
BTW, staffs were kind except the one.... and I am sure the one was a truly hearty person but, he so busy with something at...
Read moreI walk past this place every day and finally decided to try it last Saturday for breakfast (10 Dec 2018, 10:30am). We came with our dog and sat outside. Service was great for our dog - he was offered a water bowl straight away. Our waiter was fantastic to start with - acknowledged us, gave us water and we ordered drinks straight away. We had a party of 5 adults - ordered our food and waited about 15 minutes for the food to arrive. Everyone's food arrived apart from one person's meal. Waiter had forgotten about his meal and apologised - really was not good enough as waiter never wrote down our order and tried to memorise it in his head - rookie mistake (there were only a couple of tables occupied so he wasn't in a rush/restaurant was not busy AT ALL. We ended up declining his offer to have the meal sent through kitchen now to make, and also declined his offer of a drink on the house. Basically, I recommend this place if you have all day and don't mind waiting 20 Centuries for your food OR If you enjoy receiving amateur service. Very disappointed as they pride themselves as a up-class/fancy/heritage/great service restaurant - which they're clearly not.
Edit: response to comment from owner Sorry, what?! First of all, we were there for breakfast at 10:30am - not for drinks and nibbles at 5:30pm. Yes you're a bar, and you serve breakfast and you're saying 'most bars don't do table service' and you guys do this because you love your customers. I expect most places (eg., The Monday Room or The Institution) who serve breakfast to bring cutlery, water, and their meals out from a waitress/waiter - not actually make the customers get their own meals and take it to their table (that's called a buffet). Why bring up the fact that you're providing table service almost as if it's a bonus to us, when this is what every other restaurant in the world does (if you...
Read moreReally disappointed. Living close to the city I walk by the O.G.B all the time and have always been interested in dining here. I was recently hosting an event for 15 people and so knowing they’re a busy place I emailed trying to reserve a table as we were keen to have our night out here. Not enough people to book the ‘Parlour’ for this event as 20 is the minimum? In the email I was told they don’t take table reservations but she would let the staff know we were coming so they would be well prepared. Me and a couple of others turned up early and saw there was a reserved table and asked the gentleman at the entrance who it was for and explained we had emailed ahead to which he replied ‘well I guess it’s for you then’. We sat there for 20 minutes or so waiting for others in our group to show up when a staff member turned up asking if we were there for the function, we said no, to which she said we had to leave because someone had reserved the table for a function? Something which I had tried to do but was told they don’t take reservations.... we wouldn’t have minded moving on if she had helped us and suggested another table we could sit at or help us out with another solution but she didn’t. Embarrassed and disappointed we left. This has tainted my view of the O.G.B and unfortunately it won’t be somewhere I’ll even consider going...
