If you are just looking for a place to sleep, this place is great excluding Saturday nights (party night). The beds are remade, and room cleaned everyday.
The details around sleeping was where I had a bad experience. With the breakfast program, and unpost rules on their policy that changed depending on the staff.
With the breakfast program it started late. 7:30am to 9:30am. I assumed it would start at least 6am. Tours start from 4-8am typically in Cusco. The tours will usually have breakfast also, but maybe you might want a quick bite before then. I was lied to about breakfast being to 10:30am also. So lost out on part of a breakfast one day, even though I was served breakfast after 9:30am before. This is what I mean about unposted rules that change depending on the staff. Have they not heard of signs that say what the hours are? Also there is a washroom in the eating location that, at least for me I didn't notice for a week. Use that, or else if you go to the washroom they will throw out your breakfast when I should be pretty obvious you intend to continue eating.
Next issue, the policy mentions nothing about guests. I would kind of assume they would let the rooms self-manage guests, because adults should be able to figure that out. So one evening I bought a guest, literally 5 staff at the entrance, I ask them about having a guest. Silence... nobody says anything. I assume the rules are like that from then. Another evening the one guy at the entrance has a zero tolerance to bring a guest into a currently empty shared room. Like we could just be wanting to talk for all he knew. Not to mention I could just ask if my roommates are okay with the guest when they arrive. Just very odd rules, especially with their being no mention about it in the policy.
Then for other more minor issues. First night I was out with friends, I think I got back to the hostel at 10pm. All the doors were shut, there's no sign on the outside. A piece of paper would be very useful. I imagine a poor impaired soul needing to sleep on the street getting lost. Because there were multiple instances of businesses on google maps being marked that did not exist once I got there. Finally, the last day before I needed to fly out the showers would not warm up at all. I really hope that was the odd day. Also you need to let the showers run for 3-8 minutes depending on what level of warm or hot is acceptable to you before you can step inside.
My tips to the hostel. Post signs to direct people, and post all the rules in your policy or in the room, or something. If I was informed before paying I really won't have much reason to be very disappointed...
Read moreMy fiancée and I booked a private suite at this “boutique” hotel. The room was pretty comfy and spacious and even had a space heater and hairdryer.
However… a simple shower curtain would do wonders - when you shower, the whole bathroom gets flooded! You can’t just take a bath either because the water only comes out of the shower head.
I got one of the washcloths dirty and the receptionist charged me 30 soles (about 8 usd) which seems very steep. I could likely find a replacement for less than 1 usd.
My fiancée tried to plan a surprise for me and asked the staff to have wine and chocolate waiting in the hotel room. Despite planning days in advance and saying they would do it, on the day of they backed out and said it was too late. She was pretty disappointed! They did let us stay in the room til 11 am to apologize 😅
The bed was very creaky and walls are thin so don’t book a room here if you’re sensitive to noise at all.
I think that’s it. I stayed at some other places in Cusco with much friendlier staff for around the same price. For example, Terra Sagrada is right around the corner and is absolutely fantastic. It’s too bad because as others say the location has a lot of potential with a few small changes. As a tourist in Cusco it often feels like the city just wants your money and nothing else. This hotel reinforced that feeling & I was so relieved...
Read moreMy room was near the ongoing construction and they had shut the gym for maintenance which was a bit annoying. It was clean with ample sockets and lockers that contained an extra heavy blanket. (Bring your own lock). The large locker was just big enough for my 85L backpack.
Breakfast is 20 soles or 15 if your a guest of the hostel via the wristband. Airport taxi is 20 soles and takes roughly 20 mins. Laundry is 8 soles per kg.
The room is cleaned once a day and they provided soap and shampoo daily. They didn't change my towel though in my 3 day stay..
The hostel is pretty quiet, at least when I stayed. Nobody really went to the bar in the evenings and the courtyard was empty at night. Not a very social vibe. They lock the entrance at night and you have to knock to wait for someone to open it.
Hot water was more lukewarm for the majority of the shower. Not sure if it's based on who else is using it at the same time. Every so often you get a taste of beautiful hot water before it quickly goes back to lukewarm again. For 2 days there was literally almost no pressure which was annoying making it difficult to shower as it's just a trickle.
The gym is outdated and needs new equipment badly. It's better to go to a local one for a 10 soles day pass to get a...
