We were supposed to stay here twice.||Booked the first few days with booking.com. All fine, larger room than we booked, nice courtyards, quiet room, hot shower, staff helped with booking transport for us.||Had booked the second stay via WhatsApp direct with the hostel. Booking.com showed no vacancies, but I know some places hold a few rooms back for direct bookings so I thought I’d try. They said they had a room and reserved it for me.||Only it turns out they didn’t. When we checked out the first time, I asked them to check my second reservation. Only because I’d asked did they volunteer that they’d booked me in at another hostel because they were fully booked. I checked the reviews of the other place, looked ok, so I didn’t make a fuss.||When we came back to Cusco, we went to Qorichaska to pick up our bags, and the lady in reception took us to the other hostel. Only we never even made it through the door, as someone was waiting to take us to a third hostel down the road as they too were fully booked. ||It’s not nearly as nice as either of the first two, but I didn’t have much of a choice. Am travelling with two (now tired) kids and finding another place would have been too much. ||Not impressed, especially given that I booked it almost a month in advance of our arrival.||If they’d been honest and told me upfront that they were fully booked I’d have made my own informed choice in booking...

There is no heat in most places in Cusco, but heaters are available for about $ 6.50 a day. There are plenty of blankets available, and the front staff coordinates washing of clothes, gives suggestions on where to eat, and enjoys making guests feel part of the family. Breakfast is available in the morning, and they care about the well-being of the guests. I spent a full month here, and I will stay there again. This is good hostel living. The staff genuinely cares...

One thing I will mention is that the breakfast is not super amazing. It is a piece of cold cheese, cold bread, prepackaged ham and bananas. As someone who needed to adjust to a cold climate it was not my favorite and because it was apart of my school trip I had to buy food elsewhere. But, all said, if your okay with that aspect or not planning on eating breakfast at the Hostal, 10/10 recommend, super safe, great staff, great space and location and overall super enjoyable...
