Was excited to stay at what I thought was a newer Marriott hotel and earn points vice staying at other higher end brands such as Shangri-La. Unfortunately this stay, unlike most that I’ve had in Manila, severely disappointed.
First I’ll note that although the staff could use serious training in several areas, they were friendly and extremely accommodating to the extent of their capability.
First, upon checking in I noticed they had workout equipment for rent which is apparently either severely limited in quantity or there is only one because it was never made available in the week long stay I had at the hotel.
The buffet, while plentiful in comparison to other smaller hotels, lacked sufficient vegetarian options and overlooked several Minor details including mislabeling food options/allergens and not providing adequate serving utensils, literally every single morning, resulting in the mixing of utensils for meat and not meat options. Minor detail that was overlooked thus ruining the experience for Vegetarians like myself. The staff, however, was very accommodating when I requested alternative options and additional serving utensils.
The room itself was the best part of the stay. The staff was able to honor my complimentary upgrade a day into my stay and assisted with a smooth change of rooms. In true Marriott fashion the design and accents did not disappoint. It was also clean and the bed was super comfy! However I noticed that although the hotel is not even a year old, it seemed that several aspects of the room were degraded or inoperable. Broken flaps on toilet paper holders, missing outlet face plates and my phone would only operate on speaker despite maintenance coming to troubleshoot it.
Room service responsiveness was negligible. Although the hotel is smaller, the wait times for basic requests is extended. The staff themselves are nice enough, however, I had a staff member walk into my room after ringing the door bell twice. I didn’t understand why this would happen because I had called them from the room to deliver my laundry so I assume they should know I’m there and should wait for me to open the door before entering. Thankfully was in a towel but it could’ve been worse.
The pool area was nice and well kept but unfortunately there were no staff at the bar even though the staff said I was there during the operating hours. The pumpkin hummus I ordered was some of the best I’ve had. Unfortunately it took almost an hour for my food and drinks to arrive.
The executive lounge was subpar on every level except customer service. The staff were nice. However there were consistently little to no hot Vegetarian options available night after night. Additionally, the entire bar area is closed while the staff prepares the hot line for the evening which also cuts off access to basic amenities like water and cold beverages. This is confusing because why wouldn’t you offer water consistently in the executive lounge? The lounge itself got crowded pretty quickly. The solution for the staff was to add more tables. Which is great if it’s a cocktail party but that’s not what most people are in the executive lounge for so it got crowded and degraded the overall experience that is supposed to be exclusive.
I would give the Westin another chance if I needed a cheaper option but overall I am inclined not to return...
Read moreOur stay at The Westin, Manila was memorable.
Upon check-in on 3 Aug, Andie served welcome drinks and cold towel. We engaged in the conversation about our visit in Manila.
The lady security officer who was still in charge at around 9:30 p.m. still remember us when we came back from our dinner. She said, “Welcome back!” Unfortunately I couldn’t see her name clearly because it was dark.
The team (Ron, Lyah, Abegail, Abby) at the Club Lounge remembered our beverage and egg preferences for breakfast. With limited time, we really appreciated the quietness we had every morning. We had the best eggs at The Westin, Manila.
Karlos helped me setting up the printer when I needed to print some documents.
Lance, the Club Attendant recommended me Open Spinach Sandwich when he was printing the menu. He encouraged me to try it because he said it is good and healthy. It was!
Therese explained to me about Suman Sticky Rice because I asked about the taste, and encouraged me to try it because it is a bit different how The Westin, Manila Chef did it.
Jose at Front Desk let me borrow the umbrella when I was going out and suddenly it was raining. He asked, “Are you sure you want to walk because it is 15-minute walk?” after providing me directions to The Podium.
An outstanding behaviour among your team is, their communication is very seamless and well-coordinated.
I called May - ExpressService to extend stay. She tried to connect me to the Front Desk Team who was engaged on the phone. She said she would pass the message and asked them to call back.
When Carren from Front Desk called me back, I didn’t need to repeat the whole story. She knew what I needed, and was transparent to inform me that there would be maintenance work on 9 August morning.
Carren - Front Desk (transparently informing us regarding maintenance work on 9 Aug when we extend our stay).
The Housekeepers Angela and Charm very super efficient. They knew my requirements in room cleaning and never failed in fulfilling it.
I missed the team immediately when we were about to check out.
Generally, all your associates - from security officer all the way to managers did a great job in taking care of guests. They demonstrated the true hospitality. Even your interns and part time housekeepers. They are young but they have great attitude.
Thank you SO MUCH, for making our stay...
Read moreWe stayed during the holy week and really enjoyed my trip with family and our furbaby. Below are highlights and lowlights:1. Bed is super comfortable, this is one of the best beds I’ve used. Love the lavender oil amenity. They also provided a bed for Oli, our toy poodle although he was more appreciative of the hooman bed :) we got a room with 2 beds, bed size is not queen but more of a double. 2. Love the bathroom amenities, good smelling shampoo, conditioner, soap and lotion. Bath area with tub was very nice and just the right size tub for me (too short for my hubby tho). Big space with its own room for the lavatory and sink for additional privacy.3. Ref is small like regular hotel rooms and it took time to cool our drinks. They provided nespresso machine with coffee pods, good tasting coffee. Ample cabinet space too. 4. Service is top notch, I hope they maintain this, as this is a fairly new hotel. From the front desk to reception area to room attendants and restaurant staff, everyone was lovely. I called the Service Express desk but did not get and answer so I hung up, a couple of minutes later, they called me to ask what I had called about. I’ve been to many hotels and this is the first time I had ever gotten a call back because they missed answering my call! The elevators did not work at some point but they had someone manually working one cable to ensure that guests got to where they needed, handled very well. 5. Pool was nice but mostly stayed in the jacuzzi, so relaxing and water was hot with jet sprays. 6. Club lounge is the disappointing part of our stay. For guests who pay extra to use the lounge, it was not worth it. The place was small, the service here was not at par with the rest of the hotel. Took too long to replenish the snacks, hot meals. Not to mention very limited choices. Dusit and Bellevue club lounges are still top of my list, they can learn a thing or two on how they can improve their club lounge amenities. 7. Cantabria by Chef Chele...
