Check-in was impressively smoothâour reservation details were pulled up instantly, and the front desk staff welcomed us with warm smiles. However, they only provided two room keys and we couldnât request additional ones, which felt like a minor inconvenience, especially since we were traveling as a group.
We chose this hotel primarily for its strategic location, offering easy access to nearby shopping and dining spots. At the same time, it currently faces the challenge of the ongoing seaside reclamation. Instead of a calming ocean view, there are large machines tirelessly dumping sand, creating an almost surreal and slightly unsettling atmosphere. Itâs as though the hotelâs original design will have to evolve once the reclamation project is done, and you canât help but wonder about its future appeal when the machines are gone.
Inside, the staff truly shines. Flor from the bistro went above and beyond to ensure our family felt at homeâfrom recommending dishes tailored to our preferences to checking in on us just enough without being intrusive. Her attentiveness is a testament to the impeccable hospitality training in the Filipino F&B industry, and sheâs a prime example of why people often rave about the service here.
While itâs positioned as a business hotel, itâs not exactly part of a big chain, and I wouldnât recommend it for extended stays. Hereâs why: The rooms, while maintained according to regulatory standards, are more about function than flair. The linens were of decent quality and the air-conditioning worked wellâno complaints there. However, amenities are on the sparse side, and a few quirks stand out. The air conditioning unit has an overly bright LED display, which might bother guests who need total darkness to sleep. The mattresses are somewhat dated, being spring-type, so if youâre tall or have specific support needs, you might notice the difference. The TV setup also only accommodates certain devices, making it impossible to mirror content from most modern phones. If youâre under 5â9â and around 100 lbs, youâll probably find the bed acceptable and just stick to cable TV for your entertainment.
The Wi-Fi situation was the most glaring drawback for meâevery 10 minutes, I got booted off, and it felt like a constant struggle to stay connected. My speed tests showed numbers reminiscent of the early 2010s, which suggests the hotel may be using older networking hardware. Bizarrely, I could still pick up the Wi-Fi signal from the street out front, implying that the routerâs coverage is broad, but the bandwidth is shared among too many users, possibly even people outside the hotel.
On a brighter note, the checkout process mirrored check-in: straightforward and quick. The front desk was well-staffed, and everyone seemed genuinely eager to help. Parking was also plentiful on a weekday, and I had no trouble finding a spot despite a conference happening on the premises.
For the price, it remains a fair option in this areaâespecially if your main objective is to be close to various shops and restaurants. If I had to compare it to current global hospitality benchmarks, Iâd settle on 3.5 stars. In 2016, this might have easily been a 5-star experience, especially when factoring in the outstanding service. Many locals will still give it top marks for the staffâs friendliness alone. Hereâs hoping that with some updatesâespecially to the Wi-Fi and room furnishingsâthe hotel can reclaim a bit of its original charm and live up to its...
Read moreRoom is too expensive for whatâs in it. If you know Microtel, itâs the same kind of room, almost same size (I donât measure so I canât be more precise) . There are 2 queen beds, a desk, and well I let you check other amenities online. The clothes closet is too small so my office suit donât fit in it. Not dramatic but not so practical. Room service: food is way overpriced. Itâs rather small quantity for the price. It also looked and tasted as if it was just microwaved. The good point about it is that itâs 24h. So you can be hungry at 3 am and find something to fill you up. The waiter was great and polite. Room cleanliness: itâs very clean when you arrive. But ⌠Room cleaning: none !!! They fixed the bed, didnât clean the floor of the room. I know because yesterday I dropped a medicine caps on the floor and itâs till there. They didnât vacuum and didnât map the floor. The bathroom also wasnât cleaned and towels were not replaced. They were hanged so I suppose they considered it didnât need to be changed(?) . The bad point though is that they didnât clean the bathroom at all. Very disappointing. Bed quality : good beds, good linens. You should sleep well here ! Air conditioning: very good, quiet and cold. Room Smell : no particular smell when we first walked in. It smelled fine and clean. Lighting: plenty of lighting options in this room. So many that you will need time to figure it out. Nothing wrong with it. Everything works. Outlets: there are on each side of each bed and on the wall at the table. Coffee Tea making : it s available and itâs basic. Water: 2 bottles per day but if you need more you can ask and they will bring. Good point: thereâs and ice bucket. Breakfast buffet : low low point !!! The mini pain au chocolat (âmini choco croissants) were at least 2 days old !!! What a shame not to know that a croissant donât keep more than a day! Food quality and choice : poor. Donât pay for breakfast buffet. There must be better options elsewhere. To be more precise : food choices and mostly Filipino cuisine. Coffee is burnt . Good point : service is attentive. I think the hotel just donât know how to make a decent buffet . I am a chef ⌠so I know a bit about the topic. Anyways ⌠it s a low point here.
All in all - I am more on the disappointment side . Or maybe just at the âok langâ as they say here in Philippines.
Itâs not al lost cause this place. It used to be much better. But since after COVID, it seems itâs taking time to be back on track to the way it was better.
Other good points to balance my notation: the bar is great, the pool and gym are also nice .
Would I recommend you come here ? I think YES . But for the price you might get a bit disappointed with some...
Read moreHIGHLY RECOMMEND! Don't know where to start. This place is top notch. From the moment of arriving to the disappointment of having to leave, TRYP is FIVE STAR!!!! The staff is impeccably professional. The front desk Receptionist AJ, Nino, Lovely, they were so kind, friendly and welcoming. The Baggage porters, Erwin, and his associates/ coworkers, the security team, bar tenders, house keeping, and so on and so forth. I wish that I could recall and knew all of thier names. Everyone if them is worth mentioning! All great people. The Restaurant Milagritos, I believe that the manager's name is Chris I hope thats correct, was definitely above and beyond. He and his staff of servers couldn't have been better, catering to our every need. Not to forget to mention the food. OMG, my wife and I didn't have a single dish that wasn't worth raving over. (I Plan to review Milagritos independently soon) Room service was Awesome! A Limited menu, but definitely just as delectable as in the restaurant. The hotel offers a complimentary daily schedule for shuttle service to and from the nearby Mall of Asia. They are eager to help with recommendations for anything you can think of. There's also a business center with a computer for guests to use. The rooms are clean and very nice and tidy. Guest are provided the usual complimentary tioletries, coffee, water, and so forth. And a mini fridge. The view from the little sitting area in a Bayside room is very relaxing while enjoying a cup of coffee before heading down to the breakfast buffet in the morning. Up on the roof is an absolutely amazing pool, a bar and restaurant. The best part is the 360° views of the bay and Manila. To top it off is the most spectacular stellar sunsets that a person could ever experience. Definitely a must during your stay. Finally I would like to pay tribute to the most professional and honorable person, Mr Edison the hotel manager. He and his team of associates made mine and my wife's vist to the Philippines the best it could have been. He is a remarkably very personable person who genuinely wants you to have the best experience possible. Hats off to Mr Edison. You are amazing! "Salamat Po" Mr Edison.
We're so looking forward to our next visit to TRYP, to indulge in the extream hospitality and to see our new friends.
Please everyone, do not pass up this gem of an establishment, you will not be disappointed!
The only downside was we had to leave and return...
