Older hotel. Very friendly staff. Efficient check-in process. The rooms are dated and there's a single elevator. My room (third floor) was curious in many ways. The smallest bathroom of anyplace I've stayed - and I've been in some very small hotel rooms! If you're in need of a reasonably priced place this is not a bad option compared to some of the pricier areas in town/Cubao, but there are definite trade-offs for that price.
No black-out curtains. In fact, there was a neon light over my door/window area that shone through the curtains. If you need complete dark to sleep, bring a mask. No in-room safe, which would be less worrisome were the overall security of the room more reassuring. I had no problems on my stay but I was a little worried about leaving my belongings in the room.
First off the door to the room has no deadbolt, just a key lock. Secondly there's a full-size window that stares out into the hallway (which is really an outdoor, partially covered corridor). When I checked the window it wasn't locked, allowing anyone to slide it open and enter the room. It took me a while to get it locked but I finally succeeded. There was a window in the bathroom opening into a dark, open air area. A child could get through and it was nearly impossible to latch it shut to prevent it being opened from the outside. Likewise there was another entry window, probably to service the AC unit. Very simple latch that didn't make me feel secure at all.
All that being said, it was overall a quiet hotel and I had no problems. But if you worry, again you may want to look for a more modern or updated hotel.
The AC unit in the room was ancient but did cool the room down. Unfortunately there wasn't much in the way of control over the temperature level, resulting in a chilly room which would have been fine except there was only a sheet on the bed to cover up with, no blanket. Two bottles of drinking water were included in the room. Toiletries included toothbrushes, an extra bar of soap and some q-tip packets. Linens and towels were old but clean.
Shower water was hot due to an electric heating unit in the bathroom. Again, not a lot of options for controlling the temperature between very hot and just hot enough, but it was workable.
Not a good option if it's a work trip. I didn't really test the wi-fi much as it seemed very sporadic. Probably not up to audio/video conferencing but fine for more static needs like e-mail. The television channels did not come in clearly and were completely unavailable late at night/early morning. Not sure if that was intentional or not.
All said, there are comparably priced hotels in other areas of Baguio that are more modern, comfortable, and at least provide an aura of security. There's a large mall area in walking distance of the hotel, and the Victory Liner bus terminal is not too far away. It was pretty easy to get Grab/taxi rides. I wouldn't stay here again, but I had no problems during...
Read moreI would've rated it a 4 but had challenges with the overall experience. What's good about the place is that it is near some important establishments, most especially the government offices in Cubao area. This is a good place to stay just for a night (not for long stays) if you ought to find a place to rest. They have the basic needs in the room: electric kettle, mini fridge, phone to contact reception/lobby, room slippers, toiletries and towels, hot and cold bath, working a/c and water can be refilled (gallon of water in the hallway) with a pitcher inside the room. The customer service part was okay. Breakfast is included on the option I booked so it was convenient given that the restaurant is only in 2nd floor. Had 4 options to choose from including a canned spanish sardines. Pillows and bed were decent, not a 10/10 for comfort but it was okay. They even had freebies when we checked out.
Had a minor setback upon check-in. Key cards won't open the door to our room. Needed to go back to the reception lobby to ask for assistance cause we were not escorted to our room, only to find ourselves being transferred to another one, which though is the same type but on the downside, was not yet prepped, like the a/c and lights could've been turned on. Expect the location to be buzzing with noise from jeepneys and buses since the building is situated in front of a busy road. It becomes tolerable if you had a very tiring day so you'd still get to rest. The bed sheet could be thicker so it'll be more comfortable to sleep. Place looks old and could use some repainting (be more lively) or perhaps a renovation. The lavatory / wc was teeny tiny small and it's probably not foreigner-friendly. I mean, the space is not comfortable for the taller and bigger built physique.
Also, there were strands of hair inside the room and the restroom. The hotel should invest in improving their amenities like changing basic TVs to SmartTVs with Netflix or Youtube and other streaming apps. Cause the free tv's resolution is quite an eye-sore with the antenna's low signal. Wifi could also be improved as it ran slow during our stay. A/c unit from outside the room was jurassic (doesn't have remote and needs to be manually operated). In this tech age and era, you'll lose the competition with upgrades from nearby airbnb places if the hotel won't keep up with the pace. Overall lighting from the hallways to the rooms could be better and should be welcoming cause tbh the place looked dull. Who would want to stay on a sad-looking room? Makes you wonder as to when the last time was that an exec or someone from their management tried to visit or do they even inspect or stay in different Fersal Hotel branches to find ways for them to improve. Would I recommend this place? Yes, cause it was still a...
Read moreWhere do you start ?,The location almost next to the Ali Mall and the Arenta Centre is great , the check in Staff and the front desk staff are very friendly and very helpful , and that is about where it all goes to hell, the traffic noise while trying to sleep is ridiculous , it is almost impossible to sleep until the traffic dies down around midnight ,and starts again at 5.30 am ,on 3 nights of our stay there were people making noise till well after 11.30 pm , we even had a customer sitting on the floor in the hall outside our room talking on his mobile phone for over 2 hours !! , then the other patrons of the hotel decided to have a chat in the hallway until after midnight , the rooms have no sound insulation , and only single pane windows so noise is transmitted freely, the linen provided was lovely and crisp and clean although housekeeping should be shot ! , the room was only swept with their little brush brooms so as a consequence the floor felt gritty , and if you were silly enough to go barefoot in the room your feet ended black .The bathroom was truly astonishing , i never knew you could make a toilet and shower so small, the shower enclosure was not cleaned once in our 5 day stay , and i doubt if it had ever been cleaned since installation , at night the was small cockroaches crawling out from behind the mirror to travel all over the sink the management here need a kick in the "#ss" .The "restaurant" and I use that term losely is bordering on pathetic , each morning i ordered the "American breakfast " and asked for scrambled eggs , and each morning it came out with fried eggs ! do they not listen when you order or do they not care !! ,and i know i am a foreigner but to be given the up and down look of disapproval by one of the younger restaurant staff ,who was nothing but a frumpy unhappy soul , was quite disconcerting and totally unprofessional , some of them seem to prefer watching TV to looking after the guests ,I am not one usually to go to such extremes in writing a revue , but I felt that this needed to be said , if I were to have my time over I wouldnt stay here , the price is way too expensive for what is offered , I would spend the extra few peso and stay at their opposition the Fernandina 88 Suites...
