Casa dos Avós Apartments — Hotel in Funchal

The apartment was very conveniently located with only a five minute walk to the Market, Old Town Funchal, the cathedral or the promenade. Absolutely excellent location! It was newly refurbished with microwave and cooking facilities, and very clean. The host was welcoming and helpful. Supermarkets were just around the corner, and so was the Aerobus airport shuttle stop. ||You should avoid the room in the attic though, unless you are smaller than about 150cm. Also, be aware that there is no heating, and it can become rather cold in winter, which keeps the towels moist for most of your stay. Somehow we were under the impression that the apartment would come with a balcony / terrace, but this was sadly not the case, which would have been nice for sunbathing (yes, it was sunny and warm enough, even in December). ||Unfortunately, also no cards are accepted for payment, neither debit nor credit cards in any currency, no PayPal, only cash. This can lead to substantial bank fees, if you do not bring enough cash in the first place. The internet was free, and possibly fine in most rooms, but in our apartment on the 3rd floor it was rather weak and did not always work. The host tried to resolve this after which it did become slightly better, but still no match to WiFi in restaurants and indeed near the cable car on...

Very clean and perfectly quiet. Fully equipped even for a longer stay. Surprisingly looks better than in the photos. The location couldn’t be better: the old town, a huge supermarket, bus stops, public beach, restaurants, the famous local market — all super close. Very good soundproofing, really. The bed is firm, and if one pillow isn’t enough comfortable for you, there are more in the wardrobe. The place doesn’t need an air conditioner for the architecture of the house provides excellent light and climate. Hot water all the time. Bringing your own toiletries is recommended. The lack of a stunning view is fully compensated by the interior. It’s a pleasure to have breakfast on the balcony because the sun doesn’t hit here in the morning. It was, by far, the best experience I had in a long time.||Excellent apartment, great location, safe, very clean, tastefully decorated, fully equipped kitchen (for all my needs). The apartments are very, very well located, walking distance to all the main attractions of Funchal, close to restaurants, supermarket, police station, and all you need to have fully relaxed days at the city. You do not need a car there. If you want some mobility, do rent a scooter, which will serve you just right. The host is extremely polite and available, always ready to help in whatever way you might need.||If you are looking for a great place to stay in Funchal and enjoy the city by day and night (walking distance to the Cidade Velha, a place you don’t want to miss in Funchal) this is the one!
