I stayed just one night and the feeling I had is that it was almost like a shared house which for me is nice.||||The place was all very clean, including the bathrooms. The kitchen was big with a big table and couch and they had a place downstairs with couches, TV and netflix. There was a small terrace outside, with a corner where you could dry your towel and beach clothes. Not very big, but still it was nice. ||The room had a fan and a window so heat was not a problem. It also had wifi and lockers. ||||The owner João was really nice, kept my bags when I arrived (even though I arrived very early and the place was still closed) and when I left so I could visit the city. He also gave me a lot of information and tips of things to do and see. ||||I stayed during covid era so the place was not very full and the bars closed early so I am not sure how it is like in normal circunstances. Since it is very central, its probably better for people who want to party because the city has bars all over so I wouldn't be surprised if it was noisy.||||I had stayed one night in another hostel in the city that was awful so I was very happy to find this place which felt...
Read moreJJ's yard is a welcoming, open, and relaxed place, with the owners Jay and Loretta focused on ensuring that everyone is included and has a good time. Perfect for solo travelers like myself or small groups, the greatest endorsement I can give is that half the people who stayed extended their stay, or lamented the fact they had people to meet elsewhere so couldn't! (In my case it meant returning after a 3 week trip to Italy for a longer visit). ||Each night a bar hop is organised, with no fixed route the bars chosen reflect the mood and vibe of the given route, not a race to gain kickbacks. Several times per week the owners will come along! ||Lagos itself is a slightly crazy party town, but the small community ensures that everyone feels safe. JJ's is the sort of place where people will return too year after year. 12 or so years after first coming was the one of the returnees whilst I was there... ||Despite all this each room is small enough that you are not lost among the numbers. The best hostel I have...
Read moreUnfortunately we had a horrible experience at this hostel. The room was 30 degrees celsius and we were told by staff to not open the windows due to the mosquitoes. We couldn’t sleep in the heat. You would think we would of been given a fan from the start but we were not. This is a party town so you need to be okay with people coming back at 5-6am and being loud, playing music and turning on the lights. Pretty clean overall but bathrooms were kinda grungy and people would leave their dirty towels in there. The door to our room was also left open by other roommates which made us question the security of our belongings as not everything would fit into the locker. If you’re looking for something cheap then go ahead, but I’ve stayed in plenty place and this is the worst, I would not recommend...
