I was finally able to stay at Lisbon Calling after booking and then having to cancel twice previously due to coronavirus travel restrictions. Even this third booking needed to be moved by 2 days after the Portuguese government imposed a 4 day confinement order preventing travel between regions. Lisbon Calling was incredibly flexible through all of these changes imposing no cancellation fees and readily agreeing to rebooking dates. The biggest problem that I had was in locating the place. I booked direct and never asked for an address assuming that the only reference for Lisbon Calling on Google maps was correct. Wrong, very wrong! I had asked them for the closest Metro station but not for the address and was surprised to find that the "hostel" was around 30 minutes walk away up and down steep cobblestoned streets and then when I finally arrived to discover that the Lisbon Calling Hostel was closed and the "Rooms and Studio" was somewhere else much closer to the indicated Metro station. Not happy but I guess I should have confirmed the address rather than assuming it was correct.||||It was mostly all good once I arrived at the correct address. The stairs were a bit of a challenge with a big suitcase especially the last very steep flight up to the studio but the lovely Vera helped because I was pretty worn out after the earlier wild goose chase. The facility is within an older building with recent renovation for the Lisbon Calling rooms. (The businesses on the lower floors seem to be in the original state.) The studio has a separate entrance on the landing and occupies the whole of the top floor. It consists of a large main room with a queen size platform bed, sofa, recliner and dining table with 4 chairs, separate galley kitchen and good size bathroom. There are 2 windows above the stairs on the street side but otherwise only skylights which feels a little claustrophobic. Exposed beams in the main room painted yellow and another showing within the shower enclosure are a nice touch. ||||The bed was a bit hard for my preference but adequate. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped with fridge, microwave, cooktop, toaster, kettle, stovetop coffee pot and enough saucepans, plates, cutlery etc. The bathroom had a big shower enclosure which was much appreciated after the tiny things in some other European hotels that I have stayed at recently. There was good wifi. I had a problem with the heated towel rail and the heating unit in the main room. The lovely Vera got it sorted with the correct remote and detailed instructions for the living room unit and using a different power outlet for the towel rail. She deserves kudos for being very responsive and for recognizing me in the street and reporting on progress in sorting out the issues. ||||Lisbon Calling is located up some side streets from Avenida da Liberdade provides a straight line down to the river front. It is also convenient to Avenida Metro station. Provided that you get the address right and don't mind getting bags up 2-3 flights of stairs Lisbon Calling Rooms and Studio is a good option especially if Vera takes...
Read moreMe and my partner stayed here in July of 2018 and had a fantastic time!||Rooms are lovely and clean ( We actually stayed in two different rooms- No 4 & No 7 ) both were great, plenty of room in each. The showers are large which is also a bonus!||You definitely will not see any basic rooms here, every room is decorated and up-cycled in an arty way, which is refreshing and gives it character.||||There is a shared kitchen with cereal, tea, coffee, milk, sugar and iced tea for guests to help themselves too. We arrived quite late at night due to our flights and got an uber from the airport which i believe was under 10 euro. I recommend getting a taxi there as the hotel is on a narrow street which might be a little difficult to find first time, but once you get used to your surroundings it was easy to find. ||||We met the lady who run Lisbon calling and the cleaner and they were both super helpful and really friendly, they make your stay even more enjoyable! ||||We went to NOS alive when we stayed here and it was easy to get there, we took a taxi both days ( get there a little earlier as rush hour is around 6pm and we experienced a lot of traffic on the first trip there ) Around the hotel there is loads of restaurants, bars, nightclubs, takeaways and shops including designer shops if you would like to splash out...
Read moreIt’s unfortunate, we really liked the place. There was a nice open area with tables and kitchen. It was a really nice common area, well decorated. The unfortunate part is that we were unable to sleep at night because of the restaurant located just below. It was a mixture of poorly insulated walls and loud restaurant which prevented us from sleeping properly. The other unfortunate part is how we informed the booking agent that we needed to check out early the following day to catch our flight home. They told us we could self checkout early morning but failed to mention anything about the potentially loud restaurant. Also, they later claimed of not being aware of the restaurant below!?? According to online research , the restaurant has been there for almost a century, c’mon guys !! The city of Lisbon should not allow rental properties above a running restaurant. They didn’t now stop until 12-1am. Book at your own risk, we wish we knew this part in advance, otherwise we never would have stayed the night in this place. Anyway, nice place, feel free to book if you don’t mind the noise and can run on...
