I think the title of this review speaks for itself.||But in all seriousness, this was a truly top notch hostel. As far as I can tell, they are a relatively new place (you can tell by the design as well that they've at least recently renovated). The staff was super accommodating and kind, wishing us a good morning every day, doing our laundry (which trust me was an act of saintliness when you've been travelling around with the same clothes for two weeks).||We felt super safe here, check-in was easy, there's an elevator the third floor where our room was located (superior double room). ||Again, there is free sangria every day after 8pm which is such a nice touch. It was delicious and really made us feel at home right away. They put on a ton of activities, though unfortunately we couldn't take part in any due to our tight schedule while in Porto. Their "Dinner with Chef" night seemed particularly fun!||If there was a single downside, I would say it's potentially the neighbourhood. Don't get me wrong, the hostel is perfectly and centrally located for sightseeing, literally right behind the Porto Cathedral. However, it is a very loud area and at night it doesn't always feel the safest. We had to take an Uber to the airport at around 4am and did not feel overly safe, however the hostel has a 24/7 front desk and we could wait inside until our Uber arrived and we definitely felt safer with them around. Another important note to keep in mind is that the street the hostel is on is quite narrow, and some cars may not want to drive down it. Our Uber asked us to meet about 3 minutes walk away because she didn't want to drive down it. So this may happen to you as well. Just so you're aware!||The view from our room the absolute highlight though. The picture I've posted should explain it all. You see the entire city in such spectacular detail, and believe it or not on the other side you have the enormity of the Porto Cathedral. It was...
Read moreSome 40 hostels showed me much kindness and hospitality when I recently walked the Camino Francés and Camino Portugués back-to-back. Only one hostel didn’t — that was Lost Inn Porto. Lost Inn refused to let me stay because of my age. Then, it got worse..
On May 19, 2025, I reserved through Booking.com, one bed at Lost Inn Porto for the night of May 24. I planned to transit Porto to connect my two Caminos. Lost Inn learned on May 20 that I was 72 years old. It immediately messaged that it strictly forbids old people from staying. It wrote that it canceled my reservation. I responded that discriminating against older people wrongly reinforces stereotypes and perpetuates attitudes about old age. It can’t be justified or excused. Then I moved on. I stayed at Best Guest Porto Hostel.
But, Lost Inn wasn’t finished with me. I was stunned to discover on May 25 that it charged me for the May 24 reservation that it canceled due to my age. I immediately messaged Lost Inn through Booking.com asking it to refund the charge. I sent six messages in the following ten days. Lost Inn replied once. After four days it wrote that it was “reviewing the matter.” Two weeks later my credit card company accepted a dispute that I lodged over Lost Inn Porto’s charge and credited my account.
If Lost Inn Porto’s ageist policy and treatment of me gives anyone pause about staying there, I highly recommend Best Guest Porto Hostel. It’s in a great location. It’s comfortable and well maintained. Its staff is friendly and helpful. It earns its high marks on...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of staying at Lost Inn Porto, and I can confidently say it is an extraordinary hostel that exceeded all my expectations. From the moment I arrived in the middle of the night, I was greeted with warm smiles and an inviting atmosphere that made me feel right at home.
The location of Lost Inn Porto is simply unbeatable. Nestled in the heart of the city, it offers easy access to all the major historic attractions.
What truly sets this hostel apart is its fantastic facilities. The common areas are spacious and beautifully designed, providing the perfect environment to relax or socialize with fellow travelers. The kitchen is well-equipped, allowing guests to prepare their own meals, and the cozy lounge area is ideal for unwinding after a day of exploring.
The dorms at Lost Inn Porto are clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully arranged to ensure a good night's sleep. Each bed comes with privacy curtains, personal reading lights, and ample storage space, which adds an extra touch of comfort. The hostel also maintains high standards of cleanliness, which is always appreciated.
Another highlight of my stay was the staff. They were incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help with any inquiries or recommendations. Their passion for Porto and travel was infectious, and they organized various activities that allowed guests to connect and experience the...
