The Skyline Restaurant: When we arrived soon after placing an order we mentioned that we would like to use the discount card. The waitress returned saying the manager advised that we could not use the card. We asked for the manager, who came explained on the restaurant policy, but also said he'd sought out the bill for us since we weren't informed on arrival of the Skyline portion of the restaurant(When we arrived at the hotel we were told that the main restaurant is not operating and only the rooftop restaurant was open. The Skyline/Rooftop Restaurant manager said the other restaurant was open and that it's there we could use the discount card). I really felt cheated when the bill arrived. The Skyline manager had not discounted the bill as he said he would sort it out. I saw him seemingly avoiding eye contact as we left the restaurant, when he could've asked if all was well with our stay and meals. A manager without character, and keeping to his word - No integrity and extra mile from a manager. What will the staff do? The meal was very lovely, but the dodgy service really darkened the hotel experience and pleasure. I cannot wait to check out and leave this place! I do not have the strength to fight it after a very hectic week. I paid for service and I now need to work for service. Disappointment! The hotel is however clean and the welcoming at reception was warm. It is also however not a hotel I recommend for a couple that wants to relax and calm...
Read moreBare bones hotel, definitely not worthy of carrying the Marriott brand.
Pros: Newer hotel with 150 rooms - built in 2018. Clean and modern. Breakfast and dinner buffet available as an option to dining out.
Cons: No staff/bellman to help guests offload luggage at the entrance. You're on your own, have to find a luggage cart and load/ haul your bags into the building and to the check-in counter.
Rooms have no washcloths/face towels. Front desk says you can have one at a cost of 20 rand per use.
Walls between rooms are paper thin; you can hear doors banging and otherwise normal conversations sound like they are taking place inside your room.
No clock in room. No iron, either.
A/C is extremely loud.
Temperature goes up to a max of 26 degrees; I couldn't get warm so I requested a blanket from the front desk. Blanket delivered was heavily damp/borderline wet - had not completely dried and the dampness was sleeping onto the duvet, so I ended up not using it.
Rooms have fridges but no microwaves to warm food.
Need I say more? Stay elsewhere if you can. The Brooklyn Lodge is my favorite place to stay in Pretoria, but unfortunately due to work requirements I'm here at a hotel that is uncomfortable, unpleasant and with policies that are not well thought out or customer friendly. Will definitely be cutting my 2 week...
Read moreI stayed at Protea Hotel Loftus from the 3rd to the 5th of July, and unfortunately, my experience this time was very disappointing compared to previous visits.
There was a strong, unpleasant odour—similar to sewage—lingering outside the rooms, which was off-putting from the start. The TV in my room would not switch off, and when I raised this in my review, the manager, Etienne Potgieter, responded in a surprisingly rude and dismissive tone, essentially suggesting that I should have contacted maintenance. I find it unreasonable to expect guests to call maintenance at midnight when faced with such issues, especially in a hotel of this standard.
Another recurring issue was with the room keys, which had to be reprogrammed multiple times throughout my stay. This became increasingly frustrating and inconvenient.
As for the breakfast, it was not up to the usual standard I've come to expect from this hotel. The omelette was excessively oily, and overall, the quality seemed to have dropped noticeably.
Having stayed here before, I know the usual standard and level of service that Protea Hotel Loftus is capable of delivering. However, this time, it fell well below expectations. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, not only in how they respond to guests but in making sure the issues mentioned are addressed properly...
