We booked an apartment through Airbnb but it was also on hotels.com. The description of luxury was definitely not true, there were several issues such as a dangerous iron with exposed wires which was replaced when we mentioned it. No blind or voile curtain at the window of the master bedroom which was a privacy issue if we were using the shower. The rugs were tatty and frayed and in general the furniture was old and not very comfortable. There were very few home comforts such as pictures or lamps and as we were there for three weeks we were expecting something better than the photographs showed. Bed linen and towels were very good and the apartment was serviced twice during our stay but floors were not mopped the first time and I git very dirty feet when walking between the twin beds to make them. There was an inverter to keep the Wi Fi on during loadshedding which is frequent in South Africa but there were a mass of wires and plugs under the television which looked unsightly and ?dangerous. Part of the patio has been enclosed with frameless glass to provide more usable living space but it needs blinds as the sun causes it to become unbearable and the air conditioning in the lounge did not extend to that area. There is a smart television and if you were South African with a DSTV account you could take your own card. We were able to watch Netflix and Amazon Prime | Using our UK account and with our VPN we could watch programmes using our iPad but we had to connect with our own lead. The lifts do not work when there are power cuts necessitating the use of stairs so these premises may not be good for disabled or very elderly people. The agent Albert tried his best but only the owners if the apartment can make the changes to bring it up to the advertised standard.|All in all we used this as a base in order to see old friends who reside in South Africa but it is not a good advert for Airbnb and we would urge buyers to beware and not raise your expectations...
Read moreWe arrived at the stipulated time but there was no one to welcome us.The information on the Guest Information in the room is outdated. We ran out of cooking gas on the second day and it was only supplied the following day.The battery of the intercom was finished and we could not communicate with the security. The batteries of the TV and the decoder were not working. We made a call to Johannesburg and they were NOT replaced during our stay. We were supposed to stay for 7 days but we only stayed 6 days.We spoke to the White lady whose particulars appeared on the Guest Information Note. She was very aggresive and unhelpful. It is a disgrace that she is even managing some of the units...
Read moreStayed at 211 Mayfair for 3 nights. The apartment was clean, spacious, private, secure and well furnished, and location was great being just a few minutes from Canal Walk Mall and Lagoon beach. The owner was very accommodating allowing us an early check-in which was well appreciated having just arrived from a tiring trip. The lady that maintained the place was friendly and competent. Rooms didn't have keys, and ensuite bathroom doors are full glass which was a challenge, but overall a pleasant and enjoyable stay in Cape Town. Free wifi and full DSTV was also great, and there is also a slight view of...
