Urbanwood Guesthouse, Seoul — Hotel in Seoul

I stayed at Urbanwood Guesthouse for 5 nights in May. The guest house is based in the Hongdae area near the Hongik University.||The best way to reach Urbanwood is by taking the ALL STOPS Airport Line train (AREX) from either Incheon or Gimpo Airports and alight at Hongik University station (it’s the blue line on the latest metro map). Exit 7 is the best way exit to take for this line. It’s only a few minutes’ walk, even with luggage, to Urbanwood.||||The accommodation is as described on the guesthouse website, but with the added friendliness of Martin, the affable host of Urbanwood Guesthouse. I had never stayed in a guesthouse in Seoul before, always a hotel, so I was a little nervous sharing the space, but Martin soon puts you at ease,||||Wi-Fi is readily available and there's also a computer that can be acessed. Each guest is given a room key when they check in and also an electronic password for the front door key. ||Martin also has many guide books available at the guesthouse which are a great help in planning your stay. He also will pass on his great knowledge of tourist sights in Seoul to all of his guests and is happy to chat over a coffee or a glass of red.||||Every morning Martin personally prepared delicious breakfasts – including fresh fruit, bagels, cream cheese and cold meat or bacon. ||||There are three guest rooms at Urbanwood Guesthouse, one with its own private bathroom and toilet, while the other two bedrooms share the other bathroom, kept very clean by Martin. I had one of these rooms and found it no inconvenience to share the bathroom.||Being in the student area of Hongik, the Urbanwood Guesthouse is surrounded by a lot of cafes, restaurants and bars and there is also a fabulous Gelato shop GLT, just 5 minutes’ walk away.||Because of the proximity of eateries and bars, it can be a bit noisier on a Friday and Saturday night, but I had no problem sleeping and I am a light sleeper.||Also it is up a few flights of stairs, so unfortunately no wheelchair access,||||If I was going back to visit Seoul, I would definitely book Urbanwood again. Tout ce qui a été écrit précédemment à propos d'Urbanwood Guesthouse est vrai et plus encore.||Dans le cadre de mon 1er voyage solo à Séoul, j'ai choisi Urbanwood sur la base des excellentes critiques de Tripadvisor et d'ailleurs.||Envie d'être prise en charge juste ce qu'il faut, d'être accueillie et d'avoir la possibilité de croiser des gens dans un espace commun agréable si envie mais de rester indépendante en priorité, de trouver un minimum de confort dans une formule guesthouse. Bref envie d'avoir le choix.||Je suis arrivée très tôt le matin! Martin était là, fidèle au poste.||Aimable mais discret, il vous laisse le choix du rythme auquel vous souhaitez faire connaissance.||La 1ere impression de la maison est reposante. On s'y sent tout de suite à l'aise.||Visuellement, c'est très joli: les couleurs sont harmonieuses, l'ensemble est très serein et délicatement décoré.||Bien que d'un naturel farouche, je me suis vite retrouvée à converser avec mon hôte sur le canapé du salon.||Martin sait mettre les gens à l'aise, on sent qu'il a non seulement de l'expérience mais également le plaisir de recevoir et de découvrir ses invités.||Il est affable et présent sans être pesant. Son anglais est très bon donc il n'y a pas de problèmes de conversation.||Tout devient facile.||Les lieux sont d'une propreté immaculée.||Je me trouvais dans la chambre orange, la "golden field". Tout y est cosy: le grand lit est confortable, le matelas ferme, la lumière tamisée, pas de bruits de l'extérieur. Le sol est chauffé (très agréable en hiver!) pas d'humidité.||Le ménage est fait tous les jours, les deux serviettes à disposition remplacées quotidiennement.||Dans la chambre on a également un porte manteau avec cintres, une coiffeuse-commode avec miroir et tiroirs, une grande table de nuit très pratique pour déposer ses guides et livres et un sèche-cheveux (je précise car j'avais amené le mien!)||Le wifi est gratuit et fonctionne parfaitement.||La salle de bain est en commun pour deux chambres sur trois mais ça ne pose aucun problème. Elle est toujours parfaitement propre et agréable à utiliser.||Je n'ai pas eu accès à la terrasse car nous étions fin Novembre donc un peu froid pour en profiter!||L'emplacement de la maison est parfait. En plein centre de Hongdae et de ses multiples petites boutiques de créateurs en herbe, à 2 minutes des métros très utiles qui vous emmènent partout: des aéroports au centre de la ville. (ligne verte, station "Hongik University", à 5 stations de "City Hal"l et "Seoul Station")||Il y a de plus dans toutes les petites rues adjacentes une grande quantité de petits restaurants, de cafés, de supérettes donc aucun problème pour tout ce qui est alimentaire et shopping arty. La vie nocturne y est aussi très dynamique!||Martin m'a aidée pour tout: acheter ma T-mobile card, trouver le lieu pour acheter des tissus et de la mercerie, il fournit toutes les infos, vous prête des guides pour votre séjour, vous montre sur Internet les directions... N'hésitez pas à faire appel à lui!||Les petits déjeuners sont délicieux. Tous les matins les jus de fruits et assiettes de fruits frais varient. Martin varie les éléments du petit déjeuner en fonction de vos souhaits.||On se retrouve à lier facilement connaissance avec les autres guests. Le maximum de personnes possible étant de 7 (5 pendant mon séjour) tout reste très calme et on échange autour d'un café ou d'un snack, parfois aidés de Martin qui aide volontiers les guests à lier connaissance. ||L'invitation à tout est facile et je me suis retrouvée à diner avec lui et une des ses amies ou à prendre un cours improvisé de coréen avec deux autres guests autour d'un café (délicieux le café au passage, puisque Martin a pris des cours de barista!)||So Martin really is the perfect host in a perfect guesthouse.||He helped me make my stay so peaceful and easy. At the end of my stay, I was really coming home every evening.||Next time I come back to Seoul, I will stay at urbanwood as it's one of the reasons why I plan to go back.||Nothing like a friendly place to make you want to discover a new city/country/people/culture.||Merci Martin,...

My trip to Seoul last week was my third and second at Urbanwood Guesthouse. Tagged 6 other friends along and we all truly enjoyed our stay -- it was like we were at home. The place made us feel really relaxed and comfortable all throughout. Martin had a surprise welcome present for us upon arrival which I thought was super thoughtful. He came to see us over breakfast the next morning (coz we arrived past 2am due to delayed flight) and he even gave us two complimentary vouchers for Hanbok experience and the natural stone Hangeul stamp. ||The location is absolutely perfect -- hip & happening Hongdae area, one AREX all-stop train ride to/from ICN and Gimpo Int'l, and the regular subway lines. What makes Urbanwood Guesthouse stand out is the fact that a very hands-on host, Martin is really gonna treat you like family. No wonder it has been getting rave reviews from all over and I'm sure that Urbanwood Guesthouse will continue to have more and more following in the coming months and years even! There's no other place I want to stay at in Seoul, definitely! And of course, every time I hear or know people planning on trips to Seoul, this place is surely going to be...
