Want to enjoy the central location of a hostel but absolutely dread trying to sleep every night? This is the hostel for you!
It is extremely central, so super easy to get around.
However, it's like this hostel attracts the absolutely worst kind of people. Every single night, some people in my 12 bunk dorm would come in and turn the lights on for the whole room, which would wake most people up as there are no curtains or anything to block the light of the room or of other people in the room. I'm pretty sure one night, the guy in the bunk below me peed himself, which was lovely. I know this stuff isn't really the hostels fault, but man, I've never had such a terrible experience in a hostel before.
As well, at least in the room I was staying in, the beds weren't labeled well, or at all. The ones that were labeled had just a sticker on the bedpost, which was a bit difficult to find, leading to some confusion in finding the proper bed. My bed (number 1) wasn't labeled, which turned me into a problem as I had a late flight and had to try and find my bed using my phone flashlight, while everyone was sleeping.
The one night that people decided to be reasonable and sleep peacefully and calmly, I was woken up at midnight by one of the hostel staff, who turned on the lights in the room and then came and woke me up just to ask me my name. This was definitely the worst part of my hostel experience. He had come into the room with somebody who I'm assuming thought I was sleeping in their bed (which I wasn't of course). After getting my name, he looked on his Ipad or tablet whatever and told the girl "no no, these are beds 2 and 3". Which leads me to believe that instead of asking her which number her bed was, just woke me up for the heck of it to make sure that the person who had already been staying in the hostel for a few days wasn't taking the bed of someone just checking in. As I was in Barcelona for an intense physical camp, being woken up in the middle of the night, of my only real good sleep, espeeeecially by the hostel staff, was extremely annoying.
I know I sound like a Karen, but man, I had a terrible experience staying here and will be avoiding this hostel like the plague when I'm back in Barcelona.
Overall- things were more or less clean, the staff were mostly nice. The best part of this hotel was the location, and the worst part was the way they were able to attract every 12 bunk dorm stayers nightmare roomies. I honestly can say that I had a better and more peaceful sleep on the airport floor. If you stay here, I hope it's a better experience for you than it...
Read moreThe air con was not working. The breakfast I paid extra for was NOT worth, it consisted of toast, cheese, ham, cereal, and apples. I decided to stay another few days out of convenience(it’s cheap) well when I check to make sure if I had to change rooms the front desk told me I wasn’t switching, that I was even in the same bed.. GREAT! So first night was fine, second night I got back from a night out and there was somebody sleeping in my bed. I confronted them and they said “this is where they put me” and to go speak with the front desk so after arguing, I decided to go to the front desk. The lady said oh I understand what happened and was looking for another room for me, but they didn’t have another empty bed for a six bed dorm, female, which didn’t make sense because I had reserved and paid for a six bed dorm, female she sent me to a room and promised there’d be an empty bed but when I got up there it was full. Went back downstairs and they sent me to a room with 10 beds when I paid for six beds. The bed they sent me two was taken so clearly they are very unorganized and they just overbook and have no idea who staying in which bed. I chose a bed because it was 5:30 AM and I was exhausted and decided to deal with it in the morning when I got to the front desk this lovely man tried helping me as much as he could, but there was no room for me in a six bedroom dorm, which did not make sense as I paid for it and I had a reservation. He suggested his other safe stay building, which is in the Gothic quarter. He called to see if there was any availability, but there was no room in a six bed dorm. He did mention that they did have AC and it was working so he suggested to choose that dorm even though it wasn’t a six bedroom dorm when I got there he they had put me in a 14 bed dorm with air conditioning and because I paid for a six bed dorm I asked for a refund or compensation as I was not staying in that room. I have emailed about five times with no response. Their phone is off-line does not work. I have contacted the third-party I booked with and PayPal to get a refund, but they also cannot get a hold of the manager in charge. This place is not worth how cheap it is. I highly recommend paying a few extra dollars and staying at a different hostel. I promise you it is not worth the stay. DO...
Read moreI don't have photos anymore but we stayed here last week of April 2023.
Location: the best thing about this hostel is that it is in a very central location in Barcelona. It's in Passeig de Gracia, after all. Food, café, bars, shopping, tourist attractions - it's accessible from here.
Staff: very helpful and nice
Rooms: We first stayed in a 4 person in a room. That room was dirty when we arrived. But I think it's because there were 2 occupants already? When we met with the rest of our group, we moved to a larger room (i think it sleeps 10) where we share the bathroom with the whole floor. All I can say about the rooms is that it's got what you need and that's it: a bed with sheets, a pillow. Towels need to be paid. Key cards just keep on malfunctioning that I gave up and just used my friend's card after going back to the front desk repeatedly to have it fixed.
Toilet and shower rooms: the shower and toilets shared by the whole floor was just horrible. The showers were dirty, one stall was clogged and flooded, and the shower stalls are just covered with a curtain. The shower area itself doesn't have a door. Anyone can just come in. Going to a nightly shower felt very, very unsafe as you can just be barged in by anyone. The toilet is dirty but I guess that's because it's shared.
Laundry facilities: worst. Absolutely, the worst in the entirety of my group's trip (and we went to 3 other places in Spain, and 4 countries after it). I highly suggest you don't waste your time and go out to the nearest actual laundry services and don't waste your money here.
The washing machine worked but the dryer...we paid 3 times and our clothes was still wet. We only had such few clothes, since we packed light. But it didn't dry, at all. When we went to a nearby laundry shop to dry our clothes, it dried everything in one normal dry cycle (= 1 payment).
Common area: Fun. The woman at the bar who made my coffee is very nice and bubbly. There are a lot of hostel goers here, so if you are a sociable person or wants social activities, they have it here.
Overall, I will say that I like the location but I will not repeat the experience even if the price of staying here is low. If you can tolerate the things I mentioned above, want a cheap stay in a very central location in Barcelona, this...
