The property is located directly on Gran Via which is a great location and in walking distance to everything. It's located on the 7th floor of a building containing multiple hostels. There is an elevator, although slow and only holds 4 people, I never had to wait too long. I was given a room just adjacent to the front desk. Unfortunately, I later discovered this was the worst possible room. The room size was small but adequate for sleeping and dressing. The room was clean and appeared to be reasonably maintained given the apparent age of the building. There was a nice balcony with a view of the small square across the road. This was all good until it was time to sleep. I could hear everything outside my room as if it was happening right next to me. I could hear conversations happening at the desk and people coming and going from the front door. At night, the lower entrance door is locked so guest would ring the bell to get in. If someone called, I could hear the phone ring loudly. Both sounded as if they were ringing my unit directly. This goes on well into the night and only seemed to begin to quiet a little after 3 am but it was never completely quiet and it speeds up again early in the morning. Each time I felt myself falling asleep, I would be abruptly awakened again. I can't say how different it would have been had I received a room further away from the front desk. I did hear my neighbor go into the hall to complain about the constant doorbell and phone ringing once around 1:00am. I was only there for 2 night but could not have managed much longer. I would not stay here again but maybe having a different room might have yielded a better impression so I will still give it 3 out of 5. ||Sidebar: I ended up with this property through Priceline using the name your own price tool, and requested a 3 star hotel. When I complained to Priceline about this choice they did what they always...
Read moreI was planning a week in Granada with my wife and daughter, and we were looking for a central bases to explore the town from.
There are lots of great hotels in the City, but the two bedroom suites at Gran Via were almost half the price of two hotel rooms so we booked it.
Situated towards the bottom end of the Gran Via de Colon, the accommodation is only a short walk to the centre of Granada, but far enough way to escape the noise. If you're driving to the hotel you'll find it's best to park under nearby Avenida de la Constitucion since the hotel car park is tiny.
We arrived at the same tie as some other guests so had to wait outside to check in since the lobby is quite small, but the staff were really friendly and helpful.
The suite itself consisted of one double bedroom and one twin room, with an open plan lounge/kitchenette/dining room, and a bathroom with funky Japanese style toilet!
We only had breakfast in the room once (they deliver a very generous room service platter) so only really used the kitchenette for drinks and snacks.
The wifi in the room was perfect and there's a recreation room in the basement if you want to use a stand alone PC.
I only have two small criticisms of the hotel. The air con is really powerful in the suites. That may sound like great news when it 40C outside, but you can't leave it on all night since you freeze....yeah, yeah - first world problem. While there is little noise from the street, the inside of the hotel can get a quite loud due to the abundance of tiled floors and walls. One night some guests came in late to the hotel and woke us up as they chatted in the downstairs atrium.
Nevertheless, we'd definitely...
Read moreOk this hostel is in a large building in Gran Via. it is on one of the floors and there seem to be other hostels on other floors. The reception for all of them is on the seventh floor. So this is not ideal if you have lots of luggage because the lift is kinda slow and lumpy and there is no step free access from the street. Anyway once in the hostel it has a nicely decorated corridor with rooms off it. The whole place seems to be recently refurbished but not lavishly by any means. ||||As another reviewer has pointed out. There are no curtains. I did ask the admin guy, I thought I was being stupid and could not see them for some reason. He said "They've been ordered but didn't arrive yet" Not much help to me but for those booking in the future. Perhaps the curtains will have arrived by then.||||I didn't ask how come the duvets don't have covers on them, maybe they will arrive in the future too||||Amenities are basic, sachets of shampoo and shower gel. ||||Location is good. Right on Gran Via, nice views to the back of the property from my room, handy for Chueca and Sol, I had plenty of good eats and did lots of shopping in my one evening in the city. ||||I did think it was a bit expensive but my experience is that Madrid has got far more expensive over recent years and great deals are far more elusive. Perhaps this is not the going rate for a refurbished simple hotel without curtains right on Gran Via||||There is a separately owned bar on the roof. Seems nice but it is three times the price of bars and cafés at street level. Worth popping up there for a...
