I don’t often leave reviews, but I genuinely just want people to know what this experience was like because it really affected our time in Mallorca.
Extremely disappointed with this hostel and would not stay again. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.
The rooms were dirty, and you have to make your own bed with sheets that don’t fit at all so you end up sleeping on this really weird sticky mattress. I was in a top bunk, which felt really claustrophobic. The curtain rod kept falling down, and there was no real privacy—you could see straight into the top bunk in front of you. The bunk steps were just holes in the lower bed, making them hard to use and meaning you could see right into the bed below.
The whole hostel smelled bad, especially the bathrooms, which seemed to rarely get cleaned. Three out of four days, I walked in to find vomit or faeces. The showers offered almost no privacy—they were nearly see-through with no hangers inside, so unless you’re fine being fully exposed to strangers, it’s not great. The showers also only run for 10 seconds at a time so you have to keep pressing it to use it and the temperatures are all off, and the lights turn off after around 2 minutes leaving you showering in the dark.
They label themselves a “youth hostel,” but almost all of the guests were over 40 years old. The kitchen was tiny and cramped—no stovetop or proper oven, only two seats, so people had to literally eat on the floor. There is no main light in the kitchen, and we had to throw away a lot of our food as the fridges are room temperature at best.
They also promote free luggage storage, but that’s not true—you have to pay, and the storage area didn’t seem very secure. The rooftop terrace looked great in photos, but it is closed most of the year, including during our stay. They advertised and told us it would be open on our last day, but when we asked they said it won’t open for another month.
The location isn’t great—surrounded by construction, not close to any major attractions, and nothing much to do nearby. There was a bus stop across the street, which we used every chance we got just to get away from the hostel. It is not an enjoyable place to hang out at all.
I had emailed a two months before our stay to confirm our group could be in the same room. They assured me it was sorted, and confirmed with me when I followed up 2 weeks before our trip, but when we arrived, it wasn’t. The only positive was the man at reception, who was really kind and helped fix the issue, which I appreciated.
Overall, this hostel didn’t match its advertising, and the experience wasn’t good. Would...
Read moreFirstly calling this a youth hostel is a huge stretch, average age was 40s to 60s, the stench of our room was awful and use of the window was being frowned upon.
The beds are terrible with it being incredibly hard to climb up and there being a huge gap between the adjacent top bunks, omitting any privacy.
Don't expect it to be a rooftop hostel most of the year either as it's closed for 5 months out of a year, we even politely asked if we could just go up there one day early (31st March as it opens on the 1st April) because it was our last night which was not allowed.
The kitchen was disappointing. Right in the middle of the hallway so you're constantly in someone's way, no stove tops and the fridges only kept items not much colder than room temperature.
The cleanliness of the bathrooms was disgusting, I stayed for 4 nights and the same facial hair on the sink, toothpaste in the sink, and phlegm globule on the floor was there the whole time. Furthermore the showers are a terrible experience, with no privacy besides a 6 inch frosting of glass, and there being a 10 second timer before you need to push the button again.
They also charged us to store our bags here although they advertise that it is free.
The location is also quite bad for Palma. It's two buses to get anywhere which are extremely full even in the off-peak season and it's around an hour and a half walk to the beach.
Additionally none of the vending machines are in working order and the place is generally in disrepair.
The hostel dog was actually kind of terrifying (see video) and was urinating up and down the stairs. Easily my worst experience at a hostel and I've...
Read moreThis is a hard location to rate. But some things to know about the situation.
Palma is a resort island so it is a bit fancier and in the city there are only a handful of hostels in all.
The location of Wehostel is amazing and the building and setup they have is really great and modern. Also, their staff is amazing. Loved all of them so much! That's the good thing about here.
Here's the downside... they nickel and dime you for everything. Towels are not free, they do not have drinking water available to use, no soap in the bathroom, you have to make your bed by yourself, and the list goes on. None of these things are major but when you pay nearly 40 euro a night it seems to be a bit silly. For me, the worst thing about this is their food and alcohol policy on the roof. There is a super cool hangout area and bar on the roof but no outside drinks are available there. I have been here several nights and there is no music playing and hardly anyone up there. It is a shame to see such a cool area go to waste like this just because they want to charge more money. Again, its difficult to fault them for wanting to make money but, dang, there's got to be some middle...
