Highly recommended! After living in and visiting Mallorca for many years, we’ve done a lot of restaurant exploring - from Michelin stars to local menú del dias. And Bar Bellver is one of the best.
It’s a light and airy room, modern and slightly industrial, but still warm. You can see into the tiny kitchen where efficient young chefs are bustling about, aided by friendly serving staff. It has an air of relaxed professionalism which made us feel instantly at home.
And the food! We focussed on the short but interesting tapas menu: a combination of recognisable favourites like patatas bravas with newer options like beetroot carpaccio. And it was all different, exciting, and excellent.
The patatas bravas were layers of potato (like a dauphinoise) cut into squares then deep-fried with a blob of spicy tomato on top - very moreish. The chiperones (tiny fried squid) were some of the best we’ve had - crispy and delicious. I could have eaten the entire beetroot carpaccio to myself - thinly sliced earthy beetroot with incredible dollops of tastiness on top - an orange (carrot?) one, and a creamy herby one, plus shaved Parmesan. Good pimientos de padrón (my daughter’s favourite) and pan con tomate finished the main, followed by lovely chocolate tart with a banoffee topping, and very nice almond cake with Italian meringue.
The food was wonderful, but it was more than that: it was just a really nice place to be. The other guests included an elegant lady dining alone; a smart group of Spanish couples sharing tapas (we kept an eye on what they were eating to get some recommendations); and a large multi-generational Spanish family, with kids roaming around. Everyone felt welcome.
This place deserves a queue out of the door. Fantastic food, lovely atmosphere, and good value. We will...
Read moreStopped here after a long day of exploring because it looked like a well put together wine bar/tapas bar. Was immediately disappointed that they only had 1 choice of wine by the glass for each wine (red, white, rose etc). Everything else had to be ordered by the bottle. Settled for a cava even though I wanted to chose a nice white wine but didn’t like the one standard option available. Then ordered “patatas Bellver”. It came out looking like slop on a plate. No effort put into it whatsoever. Was really disappointed that I stopped here and wasted money. Decided against ordering another glass or more tapas.
Also side note - waiters seemed very uninterested and made me actually feel uncomfortable.
Sat and told them I was only having wine but may possibly be interested in having food - wasn’t given a food menu - had to ask for this after my glass of...
Read moreThis bar could be one of my favorite places, if the service would not have ruined my experience. To be fair, the food was excellent & the interior is beautiful. Unfortunately I was waiting 20min to get the menu & another 10min to order. The place was super quiet, 2 other tables were occupied. The staff rather kept themselves busy with sweeping the floor and chatting, ignoring the people sitting on the terrace. Unfortunately the waiters seem to not care about their customers at all. No apologies for letting me wait for such a long time. That’s such a shame, as the place looks really nice & the food was super delicious. If the waiters had been slightly more attentive, the whole experience would’ve been a really positive one. Hope this...
