What a wonderful place. From the building, to the rooms, to all the staff, it was a fantastic experience.
We found this hotel on Expedia and noticed it had great reviews. We were picked up at the train station by the little electric buses that are all over Zermatt and brought to the hotel.
From the street you see all the carved wood that is all over the hotel. It’s beautiful and pictures don’t do it justice.
Monica was at the front desk with welcome drinks. It was a type of sparkling cider. She gave us our keys and sat down with us and showed us a map of the area and places to check out. She wrote it all down for us and offered to make reservations for us.
We made it to our room and it was covered with the same carved wood. We opened the balcony doors and was surprised with an epic view of the Matterhorn. Yay!
Breakfast came with our room so the next day we went downstairs and enjoyed a buffet style breakfast with a few items you can order from the menu. The waitress was just the sweetest thing. I’m sorry I can’t recall her name but she was just so kind.
They do two services in the room. The first is the normal cleaning every hotel offers and the second one is the turn down service complete with chocolate. :)
Every day from 3-6 (I think) they offer snacks and a “drink of the day” which was always yummy.
We met several staff members and all of them were nice and helpful and happy to answer all of our silly tourist questions.
I can’t recommend this place enough. Location was great also. Less than a 5 min walk to the Main Street with all the shops.

Read moreI booked Hotel Allalin for the long Easter weekend – three nights at CHF 360 per night (total CHF 1 080) – looking forward to skiing beneath the Matterhorn. Unfortunately the entire Visp-Zermatt rail line shut down on 18 April due to level-4 avalanche risk and a village-wide blackout, so getting from Zurich to Zermatt became impossible.||I contacted the hotel immediately, explained the situation and requested a full refund or date change. When the line finally reopened (late afternoon of 19 April) I had already reorganised my holiday elsewhere. The hotel refunded just the first night (CHF 360) and kept CHF 720, arguing that access was “technically restored” and I could still arrive – even though that would have meant another four-hour trip with uncertain connections and no guarantee the lifts would reopen.||Adding to the frustration, my Allianz “Secure Trip Premium” travel insurance refused to cover the remaining amount, claiming the event did not meet their definition of a “catastrophic case”.||I understand small, family-run hotels need to protect revenue, but in this instance the circumstances were clearly beyond any guest’s control. A more flexible approach (full refund or transferable voucher) would have turned a bad situation into goodwill and earned the hotel a future booking instead of a disappointed review.||Tip: If you plan Zermatt in shoulder-season snow, double-check cancellation terms and don’t assume your premium insurance...

Staff was kind and fluent in tons of languages.
Breakfast spread was amazing. Can get custom made omelets, pancakes, and French toast, all types of coffee, espressos, and teas, plus a large spread of traditional Swiss breakfast items like breads, cheeses, and dried meats. My favorite was the make your own muesli option.
The hotel has a state of the art notch dry sauna and wet sauna plus a cold plunge pool.
The rooms have ample space and amazing Matterhorn views from many rooms. There is a nightly turndown service with Swiss chocolates. Beds are reasonably comfortable with nice comforters. Our room was way too hot even with the furnace off because of the heat from the other rooms so we slept with the door open most nights which was fine because it was pretty quiet outside.
Upon arrival you get a Prosecco welcome drink while the staff move your luggage to your room. Everyday there is a free drink special and a small bite of a local desert or appetizer.
All in all this hotel is top notch and 5 stars. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is the sauna is only open 11 to 8 daily. I was really looking forward to using it in the mornings to loosen up before a day of skiing. If they expended the hours from 8 to 8 I would give it 5 stars and...
