Delicious Fillet of Venison After a day of outing to The Gornergrat, my husband and I decided to have an early dinner. We arrived at around 6:10 pm at Ristorante Pizzeria Grampi’s, Zermatt and were among the earliest few.

The decorations are very interesting especially the ceiling as it is covered with different types and sizes of photo frames - rather unique! We had to go upstairs to the third floor and we didn’t manage to get a window seat as we didn’t make any reservation. The seating area is quite comfortable and not too crowded as spacings between tables are acceptable.

As we had skipped lunch for the day, we decided to order 3 mains. They were Beef Ravioli in a Barolo Wine Sauce, Fillet of Venison with mushroom sauce and Pork Knuckle with polenta. We liked the fillet of venison the best as it was super tender, tasty and done as per our request (except that they should have let it sit longer before serving us to prevent the “blood” oozing out while eating). The ravioli, if given more Barolo wine sauce, would have been almost perfect. Too bad we gave their pizzas a miss, which we regretted after realizing that many people actually were feasting on their pizzas on the second floor while we were on our way out after dinner. Of course as expected of Swiss dining, our bill was around CHF130.

The service we received was good but could have been better since there were only 5 other people eating at that floor the whole time we were there. Anyway, we had an enjoyable dinner and left with our tummy...

Overall: A great choice for a delicious meal in Zermatt, but be prepared for a wait, especially on busy nights.

Atmosphere: This restaurant bustles! We visited on a Thursday night and it was quite busy, but we were lucky enough to snag a table within 5 minutes. If you're looking for a quiet, romantic dinner, this might not be the place. However, the lively atmosphere adds to the charm.

Service: The service was friendly, but the wait for food was quite long. It took a while for our carbonara and risotto to arrive, even though these are typically quicker dishes to prepare.

Food: This is where Grampi truly shines! The mushroom and black truffle risotto was fantastic. It was a little wetter than I've had before, but the tang from the wine and the truffle flavor were incredible. My girlfriend only let me have a taste, but it was easily the best risotto I've had. The carbonara was also excellent - super smooth, with lots of crispy bacon and a rich flavor. If you love pancetta in your carbonara, you won't be disappointed.

Wine: We opted for a bottle of Swiss wine, which was a very good choice and complemented the food perfectly.

Price: The price was reasonable for Zermatt. We paid 80CHF for two main courses and a bottle of wine.

Recommendation: If you're looking for delicious Italian food in a lively atmosphere, Grampi is a great option. Just be prepared for a potential wait, especially...

Mixed experience and a quite touristic place. Restaurant is located in the main shopping street on the first and second floor, which may be problematic for older persons.

Great service by the waiters, but no sympathy by their manager for a, in our appreciation, poorly prepared simple margarita pizza. That pizza had very little mozzarella, and lacked salt and did not taste good. I also noted absence of oregano, but this was not part of the menu. I had eaten half, and shared a quarter with others of the dinner party to hear their opinion. They agreed it was not good.

Upon discussing with the manager he was not interested in our point of view. He just said if you did not like it, why is only 25% of the pizza left? I was not asking for money back or a second pizza. We found this a rather poor client service reaction and as result i did not take a dessert and will not come back.

The others of the party of 7 were reasonable satisfied with their mushroom pizza and desserts, but everybody agreed there are much better Italian restaurants in zermatt than this one. Others whereby their owners are proud to receive guests, of their meals and are clearly interested that all guests have a great time...
