Castle Black Bangkok — Hotel in Thanon Phaya Thai Subdistrict

28 countries and still going...

Based solely on customer service, I would not stay here again. Staff (especially owner and front desk guy) are cold, the room cleaning is missing in action... and often have to ask for it even if the door tag is left outside on door.

The bathroom sink in the rooms is flat bottom, so the old water doesn't fully drain out, at all, leaving scummy mold water from the previous travelers. The sinks are not wiped clean even when cleaning is requested.

Smoking is permitted out front only, can't smoke on your balcony...

The hostel itself is in a great location, especially for people who want to take advantage of wholesale shopping. There is a Lotus nearby as well a 711, a fitness center, and even 'Raintree' Cafe bar 100 feet from the hostel.

In terms of social atmosphere, it's non existent thus if you're a solo traveler looking to meet other solo travelers, this place is not for you. Look elsewhere.

This place is more for locals and families, which is cool, but if you're looking for a busy social traveler atmosphere, you're not going to find it here.

Castle Black is comfortable and relatively inexpensive, and for that reason, it's good.

The beds are firm, which I like, big soft pillows and hot showers. Two bottles of complimentary water are in the small refrigerator. There is a boiler to make hot water and coffee (if you drink coffee).

I liked that you can refill your water bottles downstairs at the complimentary snack table.

There is a pool table and community dining tables to eat at, or eat in your room if you choose. Plates are are available downstairs.

There is a laundry machine and dryer too, 90 bhat total to wash/dry. Easy.

I wouldn't stay here again based on customer service, but I would recommend the place to others looking to stay at a budget friendly, comfortable, good...

This is such a great place to stay. 🤩 Location is great. Not far from Ratchprarop station. Really easy to get to from the airport. It is also close to Victory Monument station and easy to get around. You can walk to Pratunam area where you can get clothes at very good price. Big market there and also the Platinum Fashion Mall. All wholesale clothing.

The Castle Black is really lovely. The people are so welcoming and make you feel really home. The rooms are perfect. We are a family of 6 and we had a 6 bunk room which was perfect. Very clean. Air conditioning. Great price for Bangkok. The beds all have their own light and curtain for sleeping. They also have charging points with usb sockets also. The whole place has been designed so well with every detail thought of. They have lockers in the room which you can store you stuff in if you are sharing with other people.

There is also a complimentary coffee corner with tea and coffee. Hot water. Bread to make toast and jam and butter. This was just perfect for us in the mornings. The kids loved it.

The communal area is great. They have a tv and big tables to sit at. There is also a pool table. In the evenings, people would cook their meals at the tables. The food always smelt amazing! It is surrounded with cabinets with really cool toys and collectors items which you could look at for ages. The kids loved this too!

There is also a great little bar just up the same street. It plays traditional Thai folk music and we had a lovely evening sitting in there, listening and drinking beer. And only a stones throw from Castle Black. Less than a minute walk. They also did food there but we didn’t eat anything. It looked nice though.

If you are coming to Bangkok, I would highly recommend staying here. It is just perfect in every way.

Amazing hostel in Bangkok. The service from the owners of the hostel is simply the best you can get in Thailand. On our way back from Koh Phangan to Bangkok, my girlfriend and I were in a bus accident. The bus collapsed to its left side after it had a blowout. It was a really bad experience, and the bus company gave us terrible service. When we arrived at Castle Black Bangkok, the owners arranged everything. The woman brought us to the closest hospital, and in the evening she even brought us food to the room. The sevice is really next level, it is fantastic! Next to the wonderful owners and great service, the room was clean, the bed was amazing, and we loved the shower. We had a private room. All in all, there really is nothing to complain. The location is also perfect for traveling from or to the airport. I really want to thank the owners of the hotel for the best service we have gotten...
