I am extremely disappointed with the lack of service and basic logic at this hotel. I decided to extend my stay and booked another night directly through the hotel’s website. The prices are very clear: a standard room is 109€ and a superior room is 112€. Instead of simply charging the 4€ difference so I could remain in the same room, the hotel first tried to make me pay 20€ extra.
On top of that, they later came back and asked me to pay 10€ — when the actual difference is 4€. This makes absolutely no sense and feels both unfair and unethical.
What makes this even more frustrating is that I now have to move all of my belongings out of my current room and wait to check into a completely different one. If a guest enjoys the hotel and chooses to extend their stay, the most logical and efficient option is to let them remain in the same room. Otherwise, the hotel ends up creating unnecessary work for housekeeping — cleaning, changing sheets, and preparing two rooms instead of one — while also inconveniencing the guest.
This shows a complete lack of consideration and smart management. It has left me very disappointed and unwilling to recommend this hotel.

REVIEW UPDATE AND RESPONSE BELOW: Dear Hotels Galata Management,
Thank you for your reply. However, I must clarify that there was no misunderstanding on my part regarding the room categories or the pricing policies. I booked directly through your website, where the prices were clearly listed as €109 for a standard room and €112 for a superior room. The difference was €4.
Instead of charging me this difference so I could remain in the same room, I was asked first for €20, and later for €10. Neither request reflected the actual pricing difference, which is why I found the situation unfair and illogical.
This was not a matter of confusion or system discrepancy on my side but rather a mishandling by the hotel. I also had to move all of my belongings to another room unnecessarily, creating extra work for your staff and inconvenience for me as the guest.
What was most disappointing is that the entire interaction felt more like a greed-driven attempt to extract extra money rather than respecting a loyal customer who wanted to extend their stay. In the end, this approach caused frustration, damaged trust, and ultimately lost you business.
Clear and transparent communication, paired with guest-centered decisions, is what builds trust and loyalty. Since this was not demonstrated, I cannot in good conscience recommend this hotel to others, nor will I choose to return in the future.
I hope you take this as constructive feedback and ensure that future guests are treated fairly, logically, and with the level of...
Read moreThis hotel is awful for women. If you are a WOMAN traveling without your boyfriend husband, father, brother, or any male figure to protect you, DO NOT STAY HERE. I stayed here with my female friends as just women group, and the hotel bellboy's harassment scared me so much that I did not feel safe nor protected at this hotel at all. Yeah sure the hotel itself is clean and room is nice, but for all the ladies I warn you, be careful with sexual harassment by the employees here. The bellboys will literately ask for your number, invite you to hang out with them at night, and tell you to come to their place at night. If you reject them, they will work in cooperation with their colleagues to monitor you and they will show up to your face at the lobby the minute you get back to their hotel. I was so scared of one of the bellboys that I even tried to go back to this hotel after his shift, but guess what, he was waiting for me to come back in his personal clothes after his shift. He tried to touch me (and he did touch my hand in the end and caressed it), and the way he would look at me was as if he was licking me with his eye sight. Furthermore, I am very disappoint that other employees didn't try to protect us, but literally helped this bellboy hit on me. The worst part is, when I complained this to the manager and asked for some compensation, they ghosted me. Maybe in Turkey or in this hotels galata, it's not stated on their contract that you can't harass the customers but this is not okay. To all the female travelers, please be careful.
--update ----------
After I posted this review above, the hotel manager contacted me and claimed the employee in question was terminated. However, no official documentation was provided due to “internal policy” and “data protection regulations.”
When I asked for meaningful compensation for the harassment and emotional distress I suffered during my stay, they responded that the hotel has no procedure for financial restitution in such cases. The only “solution” offered was a complimentary stay at the same hotel — the same place where I was harassed, felt unsafe, and deeply uncomfortable.
I also pointed out that the issue was not only caused by one staff member but involved collaborative behavior from multiple staff, including other bellboys who watched and waited for me to return to the hotel and failed to intervene. This point was completely dismissed.
I want to make it clear that this is not about revenge. It’s about accountability and respect for guest safety.
I’m sharing this so that other women traveling Istanbul can make informed decisions....
Read moreMy family and I stayed at The Hotels Galata for a weekend and were delighted with every aspect of it. I want to go over each in detail but first of all and most importantly - the staff were wonderful and really went the extra mile to make our stay as pleasant as possible. They were welcoming, friendly, and always offered their help before we could even ask for it. Their general attitude and positivity really lifted everyone's mood. A special mention to Erhan and Ugur who both went above and beyond, but really everyone did great.
Now, for the hotel itself. The rooms are large and modern and very comfortable. They were sparkling clean and ours had a breathtaking view featuring the Galata bridge and all the historic mosques on the other side.
Different rooms will have different views, but all can benefit from the breakfast which is hosted on the 11th floor with a view showing Hagia Sophia! Plus, the options were varied, delicious and nutritious and in the restaurant once again the staff were exceptional.
The location of the hotel is perfect, it is a short walk to the Galata tower and then Taksim is just a few roads beyond that. The path is uphill, so be prepared, but hills are really unavoidable in Istanbul anyway. On the other side you can cross the Galata bridge and find yourself in the historic Sultanahmet area with all the famous Mosques and Bazaars.
A word to the wise: I would avoid getting extras (such as currency exchange, an Istanbul card, or a taxi) through the hotel as you can usually get them cheaper by buying directly. I don't blame the hotel for wanting to make a small profit on these transactions however, of course they have costs to pay and the rooms themselves offer very good...
