The Grand Hotel Golsoy.
The hotel Gulsoy isn’t as grand as it once was there are so many pros and cons. I would honestly say that if the price was a little less and I was paying for 3 star I’d be happy. Let’s start with the positives.
Pros:
Location is great right near old city and trading area, good for business and tourism. Easy access to busses and metro.
Most of staff at hotel are lovely with the most notable being the reception desk and room cleaners are lovely. Polite caring and efficient.
The rooms although aging are well appointed and very clean. Our room had all all we needed for a 7 day stay. Safe that works, small refrigerator, two bottles of water daily.
Cons:
Double check your booking as when we were checked into our room it was clearly not the one order. Issue was swiftly felt with but there is that minute of shock.
Our biggest complaint is that the noise from our neighbours was awful they seemed to treat their room like bar. Talking loudly, laughing and shouting until the early hours of the morning. We complained but the initial complaint seemed to be ignored until I had to angrily call later. Ufortunately they were either very very loud or the walls far too thin. (I have a few more nights left and am concerned for the rest)!
Also rooms with a no smoking policy should be NO SMOKING. In the morning it was clear that the neighbours had been smoking as well our room smelled and the hallway.
Breakfast although well stocked it appears that presentation is key above substance, I’ve never seen a breakfast with so many various bread products. Unfortunately only a mass cooked omelet is available. When I politely asked for an over easy egg a young girl shouted at me that only omelette allowed!! The coffee was appalling especially for a 4 star hotel, only very cheap 3 in one powdered. And oddly your asked to pay and extra 80TL for poorly squeezed orange juice.
If you opt for an upgrade room with an old view ask to be roomed a little higher as the noise from the street is loud and when the window opened cigarette smoke comes into the room.
I would have given I higher score although not being able to sleep was a big negative. Sound proofing needed or better...

Whether you request a noisy or quiet room, your stay will interrupted by traffic on the main facing side and all night building works with cement mixers, men throwing rubble into huge lorries. This coupled with noisy neighbours who scream and bang doors all night make for a very interesting stay.
The beds are the most uncomfortable items you will sleep on with the mattresses showing signs of age and the springs starting to poke the material of the matress.
Housekeeping appears random and bins remain unemptied and some towels and linen are way past their sell by date. We were left towels which were threadbare in places. Again not a 4 star provision to my mind.
The breakfast room is situated in the basement and is a bleak as thy come. It is rather uninviting and appears soulless. The breakfast offering is very sparse for a supposed 4 star hotel. The coffee is cheap and really is quite awful to drink. They provide supposed juices for breakfast which are watery and taste of pure nothingness. We actually stopped going after the first 2 visits of a 5 night stay. It was more pleasant to find a little eatery near the hotel to have breakfast with proper coffee and half decent food. The staff vary in friendliness and seem to respond better when tips are involved. The internet is incredibly cumbersome and you have to put your passport details in every time you connect to it. The last evening no internet was available due to a problem and the excuse given was that there was a problem but no time was given when it may be fixed. On leaving the hotel on the final morning, it still was not fixed.
I personally would not recommend this hotel for a lengthy stay and have stayed in far more pleasant places in the beautiful city...
Read moreFirst of all when we checked in they gave us a room that where people are still in it they gave us another room when where there's only and just only one electricity plug in the whole room and it is located under the table we were two people ans we took turns to charge our devices. Because the room and the towels were already dirty we changed the room for the second time, the "new" room had two electricity plugs but now we have another problem the electrical current cuts off completely from our room twice to three times a day , one night we even slept without electricity and without a heater in our room just because we get tired from calling the reception to send us a technician the last time we called and finally on our last night at the hotel and we are about to go home the decided to fix the problem after we spent alot of time without electricity. After all the suffering we decided to go and chill in the pool we get there and we are told that the pool from 10am - 5pm is FREE and from 5pm - 11pm is cost 35$ per person this piece of information the reception didn't tell us they said when we checked in that the pool is free of charge without saying that its free just in a specific time . The breakfast isn't that good there isn't a variety of things to choose from and if you want an omelet or an eggs or an orange juice you have to pay 10TL. My over all experience is horrible i didn't enjoy it at all i don't...
