Never booking again — money stolen

We had a very bad experience that ruined our entire trip — £300 was stolen.

This happened on either the second or third day, but we only noticed it on the third day of our stay. We checked into the hotel on the night of 15th June 2025 and counted our money. (I won’t go into all the amounts.) We had euros, pounds, and lira. We exchanged enough euros and lira for daily use and kept £500 as backup in case we needed it in Istanbul, where we were planning to go on the 19th.

On the 16th, we went on a tour and put up the "Do Not Disturb" sign. That night, we didn’t count the money. On the 17th, we went on another tour but forgot to put up the sign. When we returned, the room had been fully cleaned — not just towels changed, but our things moved to different places. This made us uncomfortable, so we checked our money. The £500 (which was inside an envelope in our bag — we didn’t use the safe, as we never had issues before) was missing £300.

We informed the staff and asked them to check the CCTV, but there was no update the next day. After I mentioned that I would leave a review, the manager spoke to us. He said he trusted his staff and claimed that most people report missing money and later find it. He also implied we must have spent it. But we are 100% sure we never took the GBP out in Cappadocia — a friend had advised us to exchange GBP in Istanbul, not Cappadocia.

We didn’t blame anyone or cause drama, because we didn’t want to ruin our holiday. We chose to think of it as if we gave the money to someone who needed it to feed their children. But we will never book this...

Enjoyed staying at this hotel. Breakfast included is excellent. Reception helpers were pleasant, kind, courteous, and hospitable (Murat, Mustafa, Erdem, and Serkan the manager) Mustafa assisted us with taking out a domestic cat that sneaked into our room. Murat with exchanging currency and setting up tour appointment. Erdem helped coordinating a longer stay at the hotel. Serkan have special discounts for booking more than the hotel experiences like tours, shows, and Kayseri airport transfer to and from. Ali at the restaurant was hospitable and accommodating our requests. The visit to Goreme and nearby cities was amazing when nature blessed us with snow fall, snow capped views, and yes a cold weather different than warm or hot yet enjoyable.
