Service was excellent; we were able to order drinks within minutes. We had 15 minutes before the 2-4-1 cocktail offer was over so we went to town & ordered 4 each. The staff had no problem with this at all. 👍🏽 It’s 2-4-1 every day until 7pm! 👏🏽 👏🏽 The cocktails were thoroughly enjoyable & felt potent 🥴 there’s a broad selection of spirits & flavours so something for everyone. We loved the Vanilla Velvet & Amaretto Colada 🍹 We ordered the Tamatanga Thali. You get salad, poppadums & chutney, 2 veg dishes, daal of the day, raita, rice, a naan or roti & 2 curries of your choice - £19.95 👏🏽 Who doesn’t ♥️ a pick’n’mix dinner? We had ours with: 🌶 Garlic chilli chicken 🌶 Railway cabin lamb x2 🌶 Lamb chettinad The lamb was cooked very well & it was quite lean. All of the curries we chose were labelled as hot/spicy, but for us they weren’t. They were however really flavoursome & totally delicious. As they were small & part of a bigger selection this was fine, but maybe if they’d been ordered as mains we’d have been disappointed. The garlic chilli chicken is a garlic lovers dream! So full of flavour & the chicken was juicy & moreish. We’d definitely order this as a main dish! The accompaniments were decent & a nice variety. We expected the naan to be too big, but it was perfectly sized. Luke went for a coriander one and loved it! 🫓 The only thing that let it down for us was the dahl. It was total slop! Overall the Thali was good & an excellent choice if it’s your first visit as you get to try lots of things. We’d advise this dish if you don’t plan on doing anything afterwards & can pop your trousers open in the comfort of your own home. 🤰🏽 We’d go again, but we’d try a proper main next time.

I have visited tamatanga around 3/4 times now and although I have always been a big fan, my last visit didn't quite hit those previous heights. We went as a group of 5 on a Saturday with no reservation and to our surprise, as the restaurant looked very busy, they were able to seat us almost immediately. The service was flawless throughout, will personable staff who were happy to have a chat and extremely thorough as one of our friends has an allergy. The atmosphere was also excellent, with a casual but fun vibe, making tamatanga a great placed to go with friends/bigger parties. Visually the restaurant is quirky but although busy, feels spacious and not cramped. Sadly, the food was not quite up to previous visits; I ordered 'Delhi Lamb Curry with Rice' & a 'Cheese Naan' to share. This is a lamb rogan josh and although the curry tasted great, the lamb was quite tough and very chewy. It was a shame because you get quite a generous amount and if it was a better quality, it would have been a brilliant dish as the rogan josh was full of flavour. The rice was well-cooked and the cheese naan was fantastic, the perfect texture and ideal for mopping up the curry, my favourite thing I ate on this visit. Everyone in the party enjoyed their food although the other 2 people who did have lamb, agreed that the quality wasn't the best on this occasion. Because the service is fantastic and the menu has plenty of choice, I would happily go back again but unfortunately it wasn't quite the 5 star visit this time. 6.5/10 Visited Saturday 30th December 2023

There is nothing wrong with this place, but it’s not what I would call a ‘typical curry restaurant’, it’s busy (25 minute wait on a Tuesday night) I was dining alone so of course I got stuck on a tiny table right by the cash register with every patron brushing past as they left (but at least I didn’t have to try and balance on a cocktail style high chair and bar stool - they looked uncomfortable). The menu is more for the lunch time crowd I had to search for the starters which appeared over on the far right (my 3 onion bhaji were over done and tasted ‘slimy, not sure why I was given 3, maybe they were for sharing)? I forgot to turn the paper menu over, but it had loads of vegan options. If you wanted a curry there were limited options I went for a chicken dish which came with rice (brown, no choice but ok). I ordered the cheese naan and got two, again, maybe they were for sharing? Do expect cocktails (2 for 1) - I don’t drink cocktails, loud music, wipe clean floors and a mixture of public sector workers on a works night out (On a Tuesday????) locals with babies (at 2130????), and the type of diner who doesn’t take their coat off, but happily sits and listens to loud/hilarious videos on an old Samsung phone... Don’t expect dim lighting, low playing Indian music, fabric napkins, and a couple of popadoms while you order. The Cobra also tasted a little ‘watered down’, but it might just have been the loud music putting me off.

Really enjoyed the garlic chilli chicken curry, my only gripe being that the garlic was not crushed (as it states on the menu), but raw sliced up cloves were thrown straight into the dish, which, even from a real fan of garlic, is just wrong. It was a very tasty meal, it just let it down slightly for me as I had to keep checking my fork to ensure I wasn't about to chew down and be assaulted by whole chunks of garlic. My only other negative is we were told it'd be 45 mins for a table (itself not an issue), so pre-booked and went to Brewdog round the corner for a drink, which we then had to rush due to a text 15-20 mins later stating our table was now free and had 10 mins to be there, or lose it. You could argue this is a good thing, but as we'd settled down with drinks, it was just a shame we had to rush them after worrying about losing the table. Ending on a positive, the chilli cheese naan was absolutely sensational and put together different from anywhere else I've eaten before, the drinks were superb and complimented the meals well, especially appreciated the nice variety of mocktails available, great if you're driving! Authentic, yet somewhat westernised decor throughout which made for a unique vibe too in my opinion.

I went there with work colleagues for causal dinner after work. It was mid week and we didn’t have reservation. The restaurant was busy and We have to wait for about 20 mins before getting a table. The staff was super friendly, once we had a table, we were attended quickly, orders taken and drinks arrived promptly. It didn’t take long for food to arrive either except Biriyani dish which took extra 5-6 minutes. The food was excellent, and flavourful. Green lamb and Railway lamb was not greasy, or had food colours or too much spices to mask low quality food like some restaurants do. Lamb dishes were served with nans (2) or choice of rice. Vegetarian thali had number of curries. Personally I liked non veg food but vegetarian colleagues enjoyed the thali. There was so too much food in the thali for a single person to finish. The atmosphere was very good to complement the food. Prices are reasonable too. I would recommend this restaurant and would visit again..
