We went to Jimmy's prawns a couple of years ago and had a positive experience, therefore we went again this evening all the way from Nottingham. This time we chose the extra spicy prawn platter, as the waiter said that the spicy one isn't all that spicy. When the platter (with rice and chips) arrived we started on the chips and noticed that the ones at the bottom seemed really oily. The rice was inedible as it was swimming in oil. We pointed this out to the waiter and he apologised and gave us an additional portion of rice. He said that the extra spicy prawns are also extra oily. However the prawns were very greasy and we were abit doubtful about his explanation. It was only when we looked across at other people's empty platters that we noticed ours was the only one that had a pool of oil at the bottom. Again we pointed this out to the waiter and he said it was due to the extra spice (apparently the spice is mixed into oil which is poured into the prawns), he said we should order our sides separately If we want extra spicy prawns next time, but surely if that was the case, he should have advised us to do this when we placed the order? We had no idea that our food would come swimming in oil, otherwise we would have gone with the standard version. However at this point he conceded that there was more oil in our dish than there should have been. We finished our dinner 3 hours ago and we still feel abit sick due to the high level of oil we consumed. I don't think we will be eating at this place again due to our bad experience. The jug of strawberry lemonade was overly sweet and came with lots of ice despite our request for less ice. The meal cost £52.75 for two of us which didn't include starters or dessert. We are highly disappointed with this restaurant, the waiter continually fobbed us off, despite there clearly being a fault with our food. We were previously looking forward to the new branch opening soon in Nottingham but if the service is like what we experienced tonight, it won't go...
Read moreThree and half stars for Jimmy's Killer Prawns and here's why:
Hygiene:
As always, hygiene is what matters most to me. I think there was absolutely no problem with the hygienic conditions at the restaurant. The cutlery seemed clean, the tables, the floor and even the toilets.
Food:
I always go for the same thing at Jimmy's: prawns. They have amazingly crispy prawns that are hard to find elsewhere in Leicester with reasonable prices. The plate in the picture is a two- sharer, filled with delicious prawns for 29 pounds only. I am absolutely in love with their garlic sauce. However, I'd really recommend that they provide discounts for their loyal customers. If you are looking for delicious prawns in Leicester, this is your destination. Yet, I haven't tried other seafood dishes they serve so I wouldn't be able to generalise.
Vibes and atmosphere:
To be honest, I'm not a fan of their decoration nor their seating arrangement. Every time I go there, I find it extremely noisy and crowded. However, I love the fact that they have see- through glass where you can sit and enjoy the beautiful view of London road at night.
Service:
One of the most important things for me as a customer is customer service. I will say that I am neutral in this one and I would really recommend that they provide seats for those who haven't booked tables so that they can comfortably wait for their table to be arranged instead of asking them to stand by the door. They are your customers after all. I meet with really nice staff sometimes when I go there and other times, I don't. I wish all restaurants would highlight the importance of providing excellent customer service to their customers. This would really improve your business and also satisfy your customers. All in all, Jimmy's Killer Prawns do serve killer prawns that I really recommend. I would have given them four stars if it weren't for customer service and...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant a few months ago and had a good experience however on our second visit I cannot say the same. We PLANNED to stop here on our way to Scotland on our family holiday from LONDON however the service received was absolutely terrible considering the price they charge they have inexperienced runners. But this is what happens when you employ the rejects of life who don’t know how to serve customers. The gentleman who took our order was very polite however the waitress who’s name is KLARA should not be working here because it’s clear she has no idea what she was doing. We made a order and waited 45 minutes and still didn’t receive our food. My wife got suspicious when she saw a similar order being delivered to the table behind us who arrived way after us. She then approached one of the waiters who went to check and when he came back he told us there was a problem and we have to wait another ten minutes. At this point I confronted the waiter and asked did you give our order to the table behind he confirmed this and started taking our order from the table behind back to the kitchen. At this point I decided to leave because they made us wait one hour and then they tried to tell us our food would be ready in ten minutes which is very suspicious I think they probably would have reheated or recycled the food behind and served it back to us. The restaurant wasn’t busy and there was around 10 staff members so I’m not sure how this mistake was made the only way I can possibly think this happened is they just employ anyone who has no experience. The manager was not helpful at all I don’t think she has customer service experience either she just gave us a cheap apology and that was it she didn’t acknowledge that we planned to stop here on our journey. In the end we left hungry and annoyed with the poor service. I wouldn’t be returning...
