In the middle of last night, Dec. 27th, 2019, from roughly 2 AM to 4 or so, we were kept awake by blaring fire alarms in all the rooms, and, the hall, throughout the hotel (and we're on the 4th floor)! The guy on the desk did nothing, apart from run around saying his 'boss was asleep', acting like he couldn't wake him! It wasn't until I made a number of phone calls, first, to the fire alarm company, listed on the panel near the front door, checked out the fire alarm system panel itself, and rang the fire department, and I left messages, which someone finally replied to, they wanted to speak to the guy on the desk, who had disappeared back into the building, and I tried to reset the alarm panel in vain, and the firemen finally arrived, that the alarms were finally turned off! Another guest, at one point along this lengthily process, which noone in the hotel contributed to, thank you very much, another guest began to interact with me about the situation and also made a call. When the fireman arrived, he was able to figure it all out without help. This 'incident' was immediately followed by what sounded, at first like an extended family loudly partying, going between rooms, in the rooms around ours, shouting and banging doors after them! This de-evolved into a huge, screaming fight, out in the hall, right outside our door, between 8 and 9 AM, with one man loudly screaming repeatedly, 'he's not my son', then, a woman shouting, 'they're all killed,' which caused us to ring the police, as noone in the hotel had done anything, even though it was obvious given the volume of their brawl that noone in the place could have missed hearing them! When the Police came and we opened the front door to our room, we ironically saw that the 'do not disturb' we'd placed on the door, hoping to have a good rest, had drops of blood strewn across it! So, both Fireman and Police were needed to get us through the night here! What next, the Army? We have our cat with us and we've read online that fire alarms can cause deafness in pets, so my wife spent an hour and a half or so sitting in the tiny bathroom in our accomodation in the middle of the night, in an attempt to muffle the deafening sound, and went to bed herself with a thumping headache early this morning, only to wake up (despite ear plugs) to unrestricted domestic arguing! Whatever you do, don't stay here! If you do, you'll be on your own if anything unexpected happens. Don't say I...
Read moreDo not book this place! Firstly, you donât get a double bed, itâs a 3/4 bed. Next, donât expect the lift to be available - itâs either full of laundry or clean sheets, being used by the tradesmen or not working at all! ||The bathrooms are so small youâre lucky to be able to close the door. There are no utensils for cooking despite an impressive looking cookerâŠ.||Next you need to realise that there are people who live there, young homeless people make up the bulk of the guests here and they smoke cannabis outside the doors 24/7 - you will always find a group of 5 or 6 from here or the apartments over the road owned by the same people smoking it. Staff will deny they live there but just ask themâŠ.they will tell you themselves! ||I felt so unsafe in this place, the whole corridor to our room stank of weedâŠ.staff denied it! Said they couldnât smell it! ||So the staff arenât awful, but they have literally zero control over whoâs coming in and out. People from the other building are in and out at all hours. ||They are obviously told to lie if you ask if itâs a homeless hostel as they will deny there are any homeless people living thereâŠ.but the young people will tell you themselves.||I have NO ISSUE with homeless staying there but thereâs no control over the ones causing issues, no control over the cannabis smoking.||Youâll also find this place has 3 DIFFERENT NAMES! Stanley Street Studios, Vincent Apartments and Graphite Apartments. ||After 2 sleepless nights (we were waiting for my hubby to be paid so we could move) we changed hotels. ||These charlatans have refused to refund us despite the fact they KNEW we werenât happy and didnât feel at all safe! ||They stopped communicating with us or booking.com,||Who, incidentally also refuse to refund despite grossly misrepresenting the place! ||I wouldnât stay here for free and Iâm quite happy usually as long as itâs cleanâŠthis place...
Read moreWe were slightly apprehensive after reading recent reviews and seeing pictures posted by other TA members.||However, our stay at the apartments for 2 nights was great and for £40 per night we couldn't have been happier.||On arrival we were told our room was in the building opposite (Vincent House) . We made the short 10 sec hop across the road. We were able to store our bags with them until check in. Later in the day check in was quick and easy, shown to our room on the ground floor without any fuss. At the end of the corridor there were amenities, extra loo roll, iron, iron board, towels, hair dryer etc - help yourself style. ||The room itself, spacious, done up to a good standard. It seemed like it had been newly refurbished. I can only think other negative reviews were for rooms in the building we had first went to.||Bed and pillows were comfy. The shower was great and ample size for what we required. There was a TV, sofa, cooker, kettle, hob, dining table for 2 and a dressing table. See pics||The room had a big window, facing out onto the street but blinds and tinted windows meant it wasn't an issue. Initially the room was cold but the heater took effect and it was fine after an initial period.||If we were to receive the same standard of room again, we would definately have no hesitation booking. Great value for money, great...
