The hotel is quite well located. It is a Victorian terraced property that has been converted into a hotel. Not the best of conversions to be honest. It appeared to be a bit pricey for a budget hotel at £95 per night but at short notice suited my needs. I booked online for 2 nights - I had travelled from NZ so was pretty tired when I booked & when I arrived.|When I arrived at reception, I could see it was a bit run down & in desperate need of some TLC. The receptionist was very polite & helpful, letting me store my cases in a staff only room downstairs as I was early for check in. The staff only room was filthy but not really my problem or worry as I would be going up to my room in a couple of hours.|My room was awful. It was dirty, there were stains on the carpet (just like the corridors) every floor board creaked & the bathroom was also dirty - the shower curtain was yellow/brown stained like it hadn't been washed in years, the floor hadn't been washed & there were crap stains in the toilet. I was running really late for a meeting so my choices were limited as I wouldn't be back until around midnight. I just didn't have the time to make any changes.|Well, wine & beer can dilute most concerns, so at midnight I fell into bed. I soon awoke to traffic noise (which to be fair you'd expect in central London) but I couldn't close the window - it was blocked open & without a ladder I couldn't reach the top part. In hindsight I should've gone to reception, but at 3am thoughts can be a bit cloudy. I managed to doze on & off for a few hours but by the morning I wasn't in the best of moods but needed to head off to an early meeting. The shower curtain made me feel nauseous so having a shower made for an interesting experience. It was an important meeting so, again, my choices were limited. |I returned from my meeting at 9.30 & the room hadn't magically improved. I immediately looked for another hotel & found one near Waterloo station for £87 & booked it for that night. I packed my cases & went to reception to cancel that night's booking. I was refused a refund but it was enough to get out of that awful place. The new hotel was incredibly good & I so wish I'd spent the extra few minutes searching. |I've been fortunate to have travelled extensively & stayed in many hotels. Without doubt, this was my worst experience of a hotel. Summary - great location but a crap hotel. Avoid it like...

I don’t usually write reviews for hotels I’ve stayed at in the past because the service has always been impeccable. However, this is the first time I feel the need to warn future travelers, especially couples, about this place.

First, the room size is ridiculously small, and the so-called “double bed” is barely big enough for two people to sleep comfortably. It felt more like a cramped single bed than a proper double.

The state of the room left much to be desired. The carpet was filthy, the fabric on the chair was falling apart, the kettle was barely functional, and the TV, if you can even call it that, was nothing more than a tiny computer monitor pretending to be a television.

We had an awful night due to the wind and rain. Even with the windows closed, a draft kept sneaking through, making the curtains flutter noisily all night. To make matters worse, there seemed to be a water leak somewhere in the building, making it almost impossible to sleep.

Now, let’s talk about the highlight of the disaster: the bathroom and toilet. Or should I say, the broom closet? No soap, just a cheap hand wash bottle, and the shampoo? A tiny disposable packet with barely enough product to wash your hair. The sink faucet was broken, and the shower was so small that I felt completely uncomfortable using it. As for the lighting, forget about it! It’s so dim you can barely see yourself while washing up. The service? A complete joke. We had to leave and book another hotel just to have a decent night’s sleep. There was no housekeeping service whatsoever! I don’t even understand how this place can be called a hotel.

The so-called concierge service? Be prepared to pay to leave your luggage. I’ve never seen such a thing before, it’s absurd!

Now, let’s talk about the staff. On our last day, while waiting for our taxi, I sat on the reception sofa for about 10 minutes. The receptionist had the audacity to suggest that I should leave because I was “taking too long.” I had to explain that I was simply waiting for my taxi before she finally let me be. I have never been treated this way by hotel...

This hotel is a complete "bait and switch"... totally dated, dirty and dingy. The single-key-latched door was like an aged apartment. The photos on the website do NOT show an accurate picture of the room we stayed in. It was small and barely basic. Two single "metal framed" beds with one pillow on one bed and two on the other, for some odd reason. Seemingly clean but very minimal. The window is a fire hazard... the outer (original) windows do not close and the inner windows do not open (due to the curtain rail impeding it). The place was tired and had peeling and cracked ceilings. The bathroom was a small all in one "unit" as in an RV... all plastic... so compact that when you sat on the toilet your face barely missed the small sink... the shower unit directly in front. There was a short pull switch for the lighting in the bathroom and there were cigarette burns on the sink on the ledge behind the toilet. The TV was minute (about the size of a laptop) but we could not even switch it on... no remote and could not find a switch on the unit. No amenities whatsoever.. a towel with a sachet of soap.... no kettle or anything else. Linoleum floors and a small desk which was chipped and scratched. The toilet in the hallway reeked of urine. We told the reception we felt the room and the TV were tiny... not what we expected for the money. That was when we first arrived. We were staying for one night and decided to grin and bear it... after we returned much later.. after dinner and theatre.... we realised just how bad it was... but we were pretty stuck. The tiny table fan they gave after we requested it... was so cheap it fell apart as we handed it back as we left. All in all the worst hotel I have ever stayed in... I would only recommend people NOT stay there. We certainly will...

Title: A Complete Nightmare – Avoid at All Costs! This was by far the worst hotel experience I've ever had. Hygiene standards were appalling – the room smelled terrible, and there was no soap or even toilet paper provided. The TV and Wi-Fi didn’t work, and we had to request towels ourselves. It felt like basic amenities were a luxury here. Be warned: the hotel refuses to store luggage before or after check-in. Instead, they force you to use a third-party app called “Stasher,” which charges £4.50 per bag. This app only insures up to £1000, so if you’re traveling with valuable electronics (like a laptop), you’re taking a big risk. Even arriving at 14:30 – just 30 minutes before the 15:00 check-in – they made us pay the full luggage fee. After check-out at 10:00, the same situation repeated. It feels like a side hustle designed to exploit guests. On top of that, the night receptionist was missing when we arrived late. We were locked out for over 30 minutes and were only let in because another guest happened to open the door. The worst part? We had stayed at this same hotel a few months ago and had a great experience. This time, the entire place smelled like sewage. Something has clearly changed – for the worse. Absolutely would not recommend. Spend your money elsewhere. THE HOTEL IS ROBBING THE CLIENTS, DOESNOT GIVE RECEIPTS OF STORED LUGGAGE. I REALLY RECOMMENT TAX OFFICE TO RECHECK THEIR WAY OF HANDLING MONEY!!! PLUS, THEY LIE TO THE BOOKING.COM/TRIPADVISOR ABOUT LITERALLY ALL FACILITIES. THIS IS JUST ROBBING THE CUSTOMERS. The hotel receptionist forces you to buy luggage storage via this app and they dont even send the receipts. Fraud!!!

Recently stayed at the Thanet Hotel for one night. Arrived early and asked to leave our suitcases which was kindly obliged and much appreciated. Service of staff was polite and friendly. Hotel is on a lovely smart looking road giving a feel of grandeur, there is a park at each end of the street and appears to be an area of mixed hotels and private residential properties. Our room was in the basement and to say it needs a spruce up is an understatement. In need of decoration and a thorough deep clean. Only one towel and half a loo roll bit when we asked for more was supplied and staff couldn't apologise enough. The bedroom furniture is outdated, marked and grim. Cups so dirty you wouldn't want to drink out of them. The heating in the hotel in December felt like it was on full pelt, our room has an old fashioned horizontal lift window with the standard iron bars you see in all basement windows in London. However across the window was a glass screen meaning you couldn't lift it properly to let fresh air in. Managed to lift it at an angle and wedge open with a spare extension lead socket, had 1" to let air in. Stuffy and uncomfortable. Bed was fine for the night, sheets were clean which came at a big relief. I do not believe the fire regulations are met here, so much so I sent photos to my family in case we died in a fire overnight!! Room was £180 for two for one night. I guess you get what you pay for in London and as we only needed a place to rest our heads for the night we done the typically British thing and didn't make a fuss.

I very rarely give bad reviews, but this time I felt it necessary given what my father and I experienced when staying at the Thanet Annex Hotel in London. The rooms were dirty, garbage left from the last guest, what looked like black mould in the washrooms, the shower did not work and when fixed, barely had any water pressure, furniture was broken, a wall lightbulb (yes, lightbulb) did not work and sheets were stained. I could also feel every spring in the bed. When I asked for additional towels, they were never provided and I had to go back down to ask again. When I asked for a plastic cup, I was told they had none however the front desk was kind enough to go to the next hotel and grab 2 coffee mugs. From the outside, this hotel looks fairly decent but it’s not at all telling of what the rooms look like. When asked if we were getting any reimbursement for our troubles, we were told no. My issue is that this is essentially a hostel trying to call themselves a hotel and charging hotel prices. A little effort and this place could be a little better but the staff, and I’m assuming the owners, don’t really care to put that effort in. Which comes to my point, if you don’t want to put effort into your business, reduce your prices for your customers. This review is more for the owner of this establishment as it appeared the front desk staff felt helpless the entire time. I would NOT recommend anyone to stay here. You might as well pay an additional 50p and go to a Travelodge, save yourself the stress and frustration.
