On the first night we checked in, the staff let us know that the room was closer to the end door. We drove to the door and could not use the keys to get in the door. Had to walk back to the front to get new keys that would work. Our keys did not work to let us into our room on the 3rd day of our stay. We had to make another trip down the hallway to get keys that would work.
There are no handicapped spaces at the end of the building, only the front. We only saw two special parking spots for gold members.
The housekeeping was not up to par for a room that was $155 a night. We found a popcorn seed next to the short wall that separates the bed from the couch. Later, during our stay, my husband lost something under the couch. I got on my hands and knees only to find more popped corn under the couch. We did not have popcorn in the room during our stay. I questioned if the room had been vacuumed after the last customer. It also made us question if the room had been properly disinfected.
The shower in the bathroom was hard to use. The shower head is on a slide. You can move the head up and down on the slide, but you can not get the shower head to stay in an upright position. My husband is 6'3". With no shower door, it was difficult to prevent water from getting on the bathroom floor.
On the first morning, we did not leave our do not disturb sign out as the sticker in the bathroom say's "housekeeping will only be provided on the 3rd day of the stay". We left for the day and returned to our room to find the housekeeping staff had entered the room and took our used towels, including those that were hung up. They failed to leave us a bath mat.
The continental breakfast area is very small for a 100 room property. It was very difficult to find a table. I did not see anyone coming out after someone left a table to wipe it down. I also could not find any supplies to wipe the tables ourselves.
On a good note, the breakfast was well supplied. We appreciate the many...
I reserved a room for my parents, who were in town attending my daughter's graduation. I went out to the hotel that morning to check in and pay, I knew the room probably wouldn't be ready but I wanted it to be taken care of because I had a busy day with the ceremony and grad party afterward. The gal that helped me seemed knowledgeable, she had me swipe my card, then also swiped it on the computer screen to make sure it saved correctly because evidently sometimes it doesn't. I thought everything was good.
My parents left the party before it was over and came to check in. My stop in the morning was no good, as evidently the card info didn't get saved and it was quite the ordeal. The front desk person called the manager, who didn't want her to give them any keys until I came with the card--something about a boyfriend maybe rented a room or something, I didn't really understand any of that nonsense--my parents are 78 years old and not scammers. Anyhow, she did let them in the room but I was still running the party from a different town so couldn't stop by right away to give them the card AGAIN. They called me in the middle of it and I told her I'd stop as soon as I got back to Brookings, which I did. She was nice about it and I was thankful she let them in the room, but it was a huge hassle and I just don't understand why it wasn't done correctly in the first place. The day was stressful enough, without me worrying about my parents sitting there in the parking lot not able to get into the room I had already come out to pay for that morning. ...
Read moreSo- my husband travels for work and has stayed in hotels more in the past 5 years than stayed at home. He is on the road about 250-300 days a year. That being said- he has stayed at his fair share of hotels including being a Choice Member.||So, he booked this one for a work trip. The price was ridiculous for a Comfort Inn- nearly 200 a night for the weekends and about 150 a night during the weekdays....for South Dakota!? (it's not Sturgis time). He always books a couple weeks out, and hotels have never had an issue ending the reservation early due to his job moving him to another state/city. Hotels work frequently with companies such as GE, Oil, etc in order to keep good relationships with these traveling workers.||Go to checkout yesterday morning (Wed) and he tells the front desk girl he is checking out 2 days early due to having to go to Texas. She says there will be an early checkout fee of $356 in addition to paying the 2 nights that he wants to leave early. An early checkout fee of $356?!?! And still the nightly charge?!!? Never heard of this, and I myself also used to travel for work.||So, he said- okay here's the key but I won't be checking out until Friday. Still had to pay the 2 nights but said (rightly so) will not pay the $356 early checkout fee. BTW there was no maid service during the nearly 2 week stay and the front desk lacked customer service....so what is that $356 early checkout fee?!||Will be calling Choice...
