Our big complaint about this particular motel was their "hot breakfast" (or more correctly, the lack thereof). As most of us know, the "free breakfast" advertised by most hotels and motels aren't really free.....the customer pays for them in the end, no matter what the motel claims. The Brookings, SD Quality Inn advertises that they offer a free hot breakfast served until 9am every morning. We stayed there five nights, which included a weekend. What we discovered is that they apparently only served the hot breakfast over the weekend, when there were more guests in the motel. The weekdays....no hot food, even though we went to eat well before 9am. When we inquired if breakfast really was served until 9am the staff said, "Oh yes". But when we asked where the hot food was they told us, "We had to remove the hot food to allow things to cool down so we could clean up". But we said, "It's not 9am yet", to which they answered, "We had to remove the hot food to allow things to cool down so we could clean up". Huh??? Some other guests were equally puzzled. We suspect that the staff simply didn't want to bother with hot food on weekdays and didn't put it out at all....and then came up with an excuse for why the hot food wasn't available. (We never saw evidence of a hot breakfast the three weekdays we were there.) So if you stay at this particular motel, plan on cold cereal for breakfast on weekdays. Other than the breakfast, the motel is okay. The rooms and facilities are clean and well maintained. Also, they were having some problems with the WiFi while...
Read moreOur room did NOT have a fridge or microwave as advertised. When we requested them and explained that we needed them so that our two children and their mother could have meals in-room due to health issues, the person at the front desk said they would put in a request for a fridge and microwave. She was unable to even reach the manager...what kind of hotel manager doesn't answer calls from their front desk?! So now all our groceries purchased beforehand based on the Google description for this hotel are going bad. We would have made other arrangements (such as bringing our own mini fridge and microwave from home) if we had known the truth ahead of time. Also, the beds were rock hard, the in-room phone was broken and didn't work at all, and the whole toilet wobbled when sat on or nudged accidentally while entering or exiting the tiny tub. Unfortunately due to my husband's workplace choosing this hotel and paying for it, our family will be stuck here for the next five weeks! I feel sorry for this hotel's employee having to work the front desk who has to deal with upset, misled guests and can't even reach her boss for help to fix the...
Read moreThe rooms/beds were very comfortable. I liked having the blanket between the sheet and bedspread rather than just a sheet and heavy comforter that some hotels offer. The staff was friendly and courteous. The only problem I experienced was when I called to make the reservation for the room. The man who answered the phone found a room that worked for me and my family and I agreed to reserve it. He was having trouble with his computer so asked if he could take my phone number and call me back when the computer was working. I gave him my number and hung up. When he hadn't called back after about 4 hours I called the hotel again and this time a woman took my reservation. Thankfully the room was still available as there were only a couple of non-smoking rooms left when I originally called. That was the only problem I experienced with this hotel. He should have called back as soon as the computer was up or if he was going off his shift he should have delegated that responsibility to the next person. Overall I was satisfied with my stay and will consider stay at Quality Inns in the...
