I’m not from Brookings, but have recently started working in town and was excited to see a firehouse. I bought (a very expensive) sub, and not a single ingredient was correct. The most basic turkey sandwich. Not a big deal, I work in food, I know they’d be happy to fix it. Talked to a very nice lady on Wednesday who told me to come on in and get a new sub and she’s have a card for a future purchase. Perfect. I stopped in today and had the pleasure of dealing with Mitchell. I explained why I was there and what I was told. He handed me a card and I asked if I was able to get my free sub or it it was just the gift card. I didn’t know that it’s not called a “gift card” and he made sure I knew. (Remember first time customer, not familiar with the lingo.)He treated me as if I was incompetent for wanting a basic turkey sandwich. After he shoved the menu in my face for the second time I told him it was irrelevant because I just wanted xyz. Then, he told me he didn’t like my attitude. (As much as we would all love to say that, you just don’t.) Being a manager used to be a reputable job. A leader. All this man had to do was give me the card, ask if I’d still like a sandwich, and carry on with his day. Instead he acted like a child, so I treated him like one, and watched him make my food, because tampering seemed very possible. What he accomplished today was losing approximately 5000 in revenue for the year, from a family of five who most likely would have had it a couple times a month. 16 dollars for a turkey and lettuce sandwich. 5 of us… $$$ I hate the fact that I feel it necessary to write this. Mistakes happen. I make them at my job too. The first manager handled it appropriately and professionally and I hope she is recognized for her customer service. The way that your “manager” Mitchell talked to me is unacceptable at best. Please set higher standards for management. Managing a business used to be a promotion to be proud of. If that’s who you choose to represent your business, then I’m happy to spend my money elsewhere. And his “have a good day” was the cherry on top. If he’s that angry, cleaning would help. The store definitely needs it. Thank you for...
Read moreOnly doing three stars because this place is my favorite place to go, at least when we are in sf. 4/9 my husband and I went to get some sandwiches so we could head out. There was a lot of people in there. Majority of them waiting on subs they already ordered. We waited 40 minutes before people that were in front of us decided to get a refund and leave. Believe me when I say both my husband and myself have nothing but respect for people who work in the food industry. But my holy heck what was that all about today? They locked the doors and instead of putting a note on the window telling the public at that time they were no longer taking any more orders. The one gal kept going to the door to unlock it and tell people they couldn't come in at that time. Why wouldn't you put a sign on the door and go help your coworkers? She made more work for herself then need be. Normally I feel bad for staff in that situation with the fact no one came to work and it was her and 3 others working. But this was plain stupidity.( yea I said it!). So people that were done waiting after 40 plus minutes left. Obviously you need to unlock the door to get out right? The gal that kept going back and forth to the door and answering the phone kinda got crabby with my husband asking him why he unlocked it. At first we didn't know what to say, besides you do realize when you lock the door to keep people out you need to let the people inside here get out? And told her nicely he didn't touch no lock 🙄. Husband said put a sign on the door people im sure can read. She laughed and said she was going to then that would help with sandwiches to be made faster. After an hour we said forget it. Went to get a refund and she acted like we were new customers and looked confused on why we were standing there. We explained we been waiting a little over an hour and we aren't new customers. Gave us a refund and didn't even give the right change! Bottom line is, we get people are short all over and we respect that. But my God them girls made more work for themselves then what...
Read moreI have a hard time rating this business. On one hand the subs are delicious and the restaurant is very well kept, but on the other hand I've been there twice and had bad experiences both times. The first time I ordered my sub the high school kid behind the counter took my order then a min later asked me if I was waiting on something, I told him I was waiting for my sub lol. A couple mins later he asked if I was the guy from doordash I explained that I just ordered a sub from him and I'm waiting for it. He looked at me confused then walked away. Once my sub was ready he remembered me lol. I thought that was pretty funny tbh but he definitely gave me a stoned out vibe. They got my sub wrong. The second time I went I order 2 exact same subs for me and my wife. When I got home I discovered they got her sub right, but mine was a completely different sub. I called in and the person who answered the phone simply said they didn't know what to tell me and thanked me then hung up. Not sure how they could mess that up, both subs were exactly the same, yet they gave me 2 completely different subs. Both times I was the only person there. This business has great food, but the staff leaves much to be desired. I hope they turn it around because this is a great addition to the brookings food market and I typically...
