This used to be my family's preferred hotel. Unless management and corporate start caring about the experience at this hotel, I am afraid it will not be one we try to avoid.||||First, I have learned the pool will now be permanently closed. In some booking engines, the pool still shows up as an amenity, but after numerous inquiries, I was finally told by an employee that there is a problem with the roof and plumbing so it will be turned into meeting space. ||||I was originally told, for the last couple years in fact, that it was closed due to Covid but would reopen. It will not. If you family is like mine and pool is at the top of a list, then know this Residence Inn won't have one.||||The rooms have been steadily declining, but this trip was the absolute worst in terms of room quality.||||The first room we were put into had a non-functioning A/C unit. July in IL, one needs cold air, not damp, stagnant air. It was also dirty, and lacking in shampoo or soap. Not sure how long that room had been forgotten. ||||We were told that there were no more rooms available, despite having arrived around 5pm on a Thursday. I was told that the maintenance man onsite was leaving for the day, so if it couldn't be fixed before he left, someone would check on it on Monday. This was not acceptable to us.||||Then a wheelchair accessible room was found, and it did have air, but it was in dire need of a refurbishment. I do have pictures of broken items, stains in the tub, rust from the assistance chair in the tub, etc. I took pictures, if management ever wants to see them (they have yet to contact me, though I was told I would receive a call).||||We had a wedding rehearsal and dinner to get to though, so we just took the room and left. ||||The beds need new mattresses. Immediately. Sofa bed was horrible, and we had to take extra pillows and put them under the mattress on the sofa bed for any semblance of cushioning.||||Breakfast was better than during Covid, but it was still not as good as it had been before Covid. I was told this was still due to Covid, but I have recently stayed at other Residence Inns (and Hilton/Hyatt branded kitchen suite hotels) and they have had fresher items than this Residence Inn. I am guessing that the management is trying to cut costs.||||I will say that the staff was always pleasant. They were also understanding and apologetic of the shortcomings at this Residence Inn. ||||I was offered a few Marriott points when I checked out, for my troubles. I declined, as this was a cash stay and the points offered would not cover even a half day at any Marriot property. Instead, I was told, by the manager on the morning we checked out, that the person I needed to speak with regarding our stay was on vacation, but that person would call me upon return. I have yet to receive a call. It has been about 4 weeks. ||||Such a disappointing stay. And it used to be a Residence...
