Red Roof Inn & Suites Calhoun — Hotel in Calhoun

My husband and I booked and tried three different rooms. The first door wouldn't even open, as in the door mechanism was broken. We tried the second room after loading our stuff back up and went around back and started to unload. I walked inside and there were so many cleaning issues and maintenance issues. There were two cockroaches on the floor crawling, the ceiling in the bathroom had paint peeling off in large pieces, mold on the shower curtain, urine around the toilet, and the chrome molding of the diverter was black and corroded. We tried the third room and reloaded all of our stuff back up and went changed our parking spot for the third time. Went inside, and same cleaning issues except more urine around the toilet and this time, the shower head wasn't even secured in the wall. It smelled overwhelmingly like man's cologne and cigarette smoke inside the room which was really weird because we checked in late at night so I wonder if some of the vacant rooms are being used by staff for other things. We didn't bring our stuff in. I just brought a whole pack of sanitizing wipes and started cleaning for a while. It had been so neglected that I still felt gross. Even the makeup stains on the pillows in the last two rooms, gross. I asked for a refund and the front desk woman assured me that I'd get a full refund and to cancel the Hotels Booking. I did so immediately and switched to a clean hotel in the area. Hotels website sent me several emails saying they were trying to reach the manager but they couldn't reach her. Eventually, Hotels sent an email for a complimentary fifty dollars towards rewards due to Red Roof's Inn manager not returning their calls. I called the manager and spoke with her and she said Hotels was lying and they normally claim they can't reach the manager so they'll keep your money. She stated Hotels never once tried to reach out to her and that Hotels was lying. I contacted Hotels and they said they did try reaching out to her several times. They called her while I was on hold and this time she answered and said she would only give me a partial refund. This is not good enough for me. I literally left the hotel cleaner than I found it because I was adamant about trying to clean it. The manager lied to me, lied to Hotels and told them I agreed to a partial refund, but I didn't. I wanted a full refund. If anything, they should pay me for the time cleaning their hotel and not even staying in it or moving luggage into it. We were one vehicle of only a few, so it's not like we cost them money by holding a room for us, so they can't even argue that. Besides this, it is in a sketchy area. I can only assume the good reviews exist because they probably delete the bad reviews. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND!! This was a terrible experience, rooms was what we paid for I’d assume. We just needed it for my son’s basketball trip. But Friday night I went outside to check on the person i was with and a woman pulls in and tells us we can’t sit at the car. We’ve been outside all but if 5-10 mins discussing what the kids was going to eat because we just got back from their game. So I’m just wondering and ask her why not what’s wrong? And she proceeds to tell us that we’ll scare people. Mind you we’re black in a little town and no I’m NOT RACIST at all we’re from southern Ga, but it def felt like we was being attacked by our skin. Due to the fact other people was aloud outside with beers and cigarettes I called the police for our safety cause atp I’m confused and concerned. The police come and they told us because it was private property it wasn’t nothing they can do it doesn’t make sense to them as well either, overall it’s not fair but there’s simply nothing we can do. So now I’m embarrassed and stressed cause he can’t even smoke a cigarette without being bothered. Another office comes around from inside and tells us they want us to leave now?! MIND YOU we have two children that just finish playing basketball so atp I’m IN TEARS. Left the next day for several reasons a family emergency 6 hrs away being one I contacted the booking I went through for refund since we couldn’t stay sat and found out today it was denied "because of issues they had with us".. this the most craziest thing ive ever experienced on a trip. And I don’t recommend if you’re not from this town because or if you’re not a familiar face to just stay away. Regret even wasting...

This was my second stay. I chose this location again as I felt safe with my child the first time we stayed. We actually had a positive first time experience. So we decided to stay here again on our way back home. However this time there was a domestic altercation at our building and we had to call the police. My child and I were so scared since we heard someone yelling in the parking lot and calling for help. It was so alarming that we couldnt go back to sleep but luckily the situation was handled and the couple were arrested.

We were assured by the front desk that the incident was over and it was taken care of. She also tried to comfort us by stating that this usually doesn't happen at this hotel since they have a policy not to rent to locals and it was talen care of immediately...she also added that this was a safe location and this incident was a one time incident.

For me it's the last time as I will probably not stay here again. After witnessing a scary situation with my child I will never stay here ever again. It could have been worse but luckily no weapons were involved.

Also it wasn't cheap to stay here either. This time around I was charged 40% more than the first time ($113). Pretty expensive for a "value/budget" motel. That's what I get for trying to save money this year for the holidays instead of going my usual Arbnb route.

Listen I hate to write bad reviews as I'm a consistent yelper who writes positive news on good service. But I had to write this one ro warn others about this place. It's unfortunate that my son had to witness this amd hide in the bathroom.
