If I could leave zero stars, I would. Max Casino in Carson was an absolute nightmare from start to finish and I would warn anyone thinking of staying here: DON'T.
We originally chose this hotel to be close to Carson Tahoe because my father is undergoing chemotherapy, and we needed to stay nearby. We could have stayed in Reno for free (in beautiful comped rooms) but we stayed local for his care. And this is how we were treated?
We were quoted a certain price plus a $50 refundable deposit at check-in, which the front desk clerk clearly mentioned. We paid in cash. Fast forward to check-out, not only is the deposit nowhere to be found, but suddenly weâre being told there was no deposit at all, and we somehow still owe another $150 in hidden fees⌠after already paying over $700 for 3 nights.
The front desk clerk (who I won't name, but had a short boyish haircut) repeatedly insisted we were just charged âwhat we were charged,â and gave zero explanation for where our money went. Iâm not going to make accusations, but something about the whole interaction felt shady and dishonest. (Pocketing on the side?)
And as if that wasnât enough, the casino itself was just as disappointing. I know gambling is never guaranteed, but I played over $600 and didnât hit a single win on any machine. Not even a small payout. It felt like the tightest slots Iâve ever played in Nevada...and Iâve played a lot.
Tight machines, rude or NO service, no accountability, and a total lack of integrity. We were taken advantage of during a hard time, and I wouldnât wish this experience on anyone.
Spend your money somewhere else. Carson has better options, and Reno is right down the road if you want real...

It seems neither one of these values rarely ever apply these days. Far too many employees think you must tip them just because, even if the service was terrible. It's almost as if you're taking up their time how dare you. Expecting a thank you is rare. It says tough as pulling teeth.
I'm very happy to say that in this case the bartender accommodated the customer and obviously will get repeat business because of his excellent service and sincere gratitude.
The acronym tips means, to insure proper service and everyone who receives tips should...

Many of their machines were in a state of disrepair, and getting help from an employee could be something of an adventure. Not anymore. Nowadays it seems like something special is happening every day, whether it's the best live entertainment in town, DJ Trivia, or a multitude of ways to be awarded free play, you'll encounter genuinely friendly and helpful employees as well great chow in the Black Bear Diner and the snack bar. The Max has pulled off one of the greatest turnarounds I've ever seen in...
