Ladles Soups Downtown — Restaurant in Charleston

Visited the new location downtown and was very disappointed in the service and the food. We got "Bottomless Soup" and so we tried several soups. The chili was pretty good, but not very hot. The buffalo chicken was disgusting and barely warm. My friend said it tasted "moldy" and my main aversion was that it seems like gelatin or corn starch had been added to the broth. It jiggled like jello. It was so disgusting. Our server had dirty fingernails which I noticed when he handed me a ketchup-sized thing of cheese for my chili. The cashier was stressed out and kept dropping things because things were busy during lunch time and she was alone at the counter serving and taking orders. Absolutely atrocious! I got the loaded potato soup and it had absolutely NO FLAVOR, not a speck of seasoning, only flavor was from the hard layer of bacon that congealed on top of my bowl. The cheese was like soggy bandaids floating in the milky muck that was supposed to be potato soup and the sandwich was some how bitter? Even though it was just cheese! Had to dump packets of salt and pepper just to get even a hint of flavor. Really disappointed as I had heard good things about this place and I paid 11 dollars for a bowl of mushy disappointment. Restaurant itself was nice though and the woman at the counter was nice but other than that it was definitely not worth spending the money in any sense...

My wife and I were very hungry after walking around Downtown Charleston all morning. It was hot out, so a lighter meal of soup and salad sounded perfect. We had the She Crab and Broccoli Soups and a Pimento Cheese and a Grilled Cheese. We were very impressed, especially with the She Crab, so much so that we ended up getting a bowl of that to go after our meal.

I grew up eating pimento cheese from my grandmother and mother and have also had it other places. Ladies’ is different, but in a good way. It was very smooth, but also had a really good flavor.
